Spare Tire (Everything you wanted to know)

I know there are other threads on this subject but I thought it would be good to gather all the technical information on the spare tire for the Malibu and other options.

Also if you bought a spare tire and made sure it fit, especially in the wheel well then post where you bought it, model #, etc.

Re: Spare Tire (Everything you wanted to know)

I went to the local pull-a-part and found a 16" compact spare from a 4th gen Camaro. It's pretty close to the caliper but it looks like it clears. I'll be getting a new tire but i think it was worth the $13.

This is on a 2015 Malibu LS btw.

Re: Spare Tire (Everything you wanted to know)

I finally got a tire on the wheel, it's a 125/70D16, I drove it 2 miles to test it and it seems fine, even though it looks a little small.

Are your tires 16 or 17"? Mine are 17" which is why I would go with the 17" spare tire.

Re: Spare Tire (Everything you wanted to know)

Mine are 16" with 215/60r16, that tire size is actually used on my 07 as well.

Re: Spare Tire (Everything you wanted to know)

Does the 16" spare fit ok in the trunk?

I think this may be the best option so far since it clears the front brakes. Cost-wise for sure. Although, I may look for a taller spare tire but would worry about it fitting in the trunk.

My 16" compact fit in the trunk just fine, plenty of room for a larger tire.
