What does "Possible Ice" on the digital readout mean?

I'm gonna go with the obvious and assume the car is trying to tell me that the ground is possibly icey?

It seems to go off when the weather gets colder than usual, but there has definitely not been any ice or rain when it has so far.

When your outside temp reads 37 or lower this message will show up after first starting your vehicle. It's just to bhighjlight the colder temps and the possibility of ice if there is precipitation. GM has had it for years. I had it on my '01 Silverado.

You've seen the signs, "Bridge freezes before road surface". The roads may not be icy, but under and overpasses may be.

Not just when you start it, whenever it reaches that temp it will. Mine actually did it today in FLORIDA.

Your car is letting you know it hopes you're going to stop at Dairy Queen.

I think its a pretty goofy message myself. I think most people know when there is a possibility of ice on the roads.

There are cases when you might not realize it. Sure when you first get in the car after it sits outside you probably know its cold. However, if you have your car in a warm garage and then pull it out on a cold frosty morning you may not realize it is that cold outside. Other times the temp drops quite rapidly as you drive through certain sections of a highway. You can quickly go from a 39 degree day to a 32 degree day with ice on the road within a few hundred feet if you go from a sunny area to an area behind a large hill. Especially if the road has gone from sunny to shade due to the angle of the sun changing. So you go from a wet road to an icy road.

The "low traction" is another useful message from the Bu. It has been very cold here in Northern VA (temp in teens) and my Bu has been very accurate in giving me that warning message when it ran on some icy water on the road.
