2009 Chevy Malibu Low Level Fuel warning?

Okay, so I'm new to this site AND know nothing about cars!

Every other car I have had, ALWAYS had a light that popped up when my fuel was low and it also chimed at me letting me know.

I've noticed on my Chevy Malibu that I haven't seen it do that.

For example, Today, I knew I had to get gas eventually but I forgot until I almost got home. So I turned around and went to the gas station. When I filled up I had filled up 14.5 gallons out of my 16 gallon tank. When I was going through the DIC, it said low fuel range only when I got to the fuel mileage part.

Is there supposed to be a light that comes on? Or is it supposed to chime? Or is the message supposed to flash on the DIC no matter where it's set at like the "ice possible" message that randomly pops up?!

I've researched and researched but haven't found an answer and I've looked in my owners manual but it only says that it'll say low fuel range...so I am just wondering the above questions.

ALSO FYI: I RARELY let it get to that level...but i had forgotten today before I had gotten gas

there is something after "fuel range low" but i am not positive on what it says. i would like to know this as well as how much gas i have when the second light appears because it just tells me that its low and nothing else.

ADreisow,

Like BeautiBU stated, if you look at the Digital Information Center (DIC), where it states your milage, tire pressure, trip meters etc...IF and WHEN you get to that low of fuel it will predominantly show the text "FUEL RANGE LOW". Once you gas up the car, the message goes away.

In my BU book, its on page 4-40.

ADreisow,

I would have to agree with the information that GregF70 and BeautiBu had posted in response to your question.

When it gets scary low the DIC actually says "low fuel", had it come on the other day.

Re: 2009 Chevy Malibu Low Level Fuel warning?

I have found that the Low Fuel warning comes on when the Fuel Range reading hits 40 miles or less regardless of the actual fuel level.

When the warning comes on you can press the button on the left side of the wheel that is 3rd from the top to acknowledge the message and make it go away. But when you turn the key off and start the car again, it will return. Just press the button again. If you get tired of pressing the button you can fill up or walk.

Re: 2009 Chevy Malibu Low Level Fuel warning?

I knew it said low fuel range or whatever on the DIC but i only see it when i scroll through to check my how many miles i can go it doesnt show up on my main mileage part if that makes sense? I guess im used to vehicles chiming and a light coming on indicating my fuel is low and i havent expierenced that with this vehicle which drives me crazy!!!

Re: 2009 Chevy Malibu Low Level Fuel warning?

The average mpg will say "Fuel range low" when there is less gas than it has been programmed to "comfortable" with. You have to scroll to that message.

When the level reaches critical the message appears without any action on your part and will stay until you either fill up, press the button, or turn the key off.
