I can turn my turn signals on sometimes and when they are on they do click in the dash, but sometimes they don't turn on at all and i hit the hazard button to make them work and they will stay on for a little while and then go off again. Is it the turn signal switch? I also have to replace the hazard button because i have hit it too many times and now it is stuck.
After you turn on the turn signals they have to go through the hazard switch. If the hazard switch is defective it can stop the turn signals from working. I'd suggest replacing the hazard switch first and see if that cures the problem.
I think there was a recall for defective hazard switches for 1999-2002 Malibu's a few years ago. Check with a dealer to see if this recall was done on your vehicle''
Do our cars use a relay aka a flasher for the turn signals? For my last car it was normal for the hazards to work but not the turn signals when the flasher relay was bad. Hitting the hazard switch could be causing the relay to finally close but as you can tell that has been only a temporary fix. At least you have to replace the hazard switch anyway.
