Unhappy Car won't start, no lights, no clicking when turn key

I bought a 2003 Malibu for my daughter last Wednesday for her first car. Started fine multiple times Wednesday night, Thursday morning and Friday. Friday at 5:30 she gets behind the wheel to drive it for the first time alone and bam....nothing! The car doesn't have any lights on, doesn't even click when you turn the key. Tried to jump it, nothing. I was furious and got in contact with the guy I bought it from as he told me their was NOTHING mechanically wrong with it. He agreed to come fix it for me. On Sunday, he came to my home and looked at fuses and the battery. Took the battery to car place and they said it was drained completely and would need to be recharged for 8 hours. He brought it back yesterday morning and the car still won't do anything. No lights come on, nothing. He is telling me now it is likely the ignition switch and it has been recalled. He is supposed to tow it to dealer today to have fixed. From what I have read about the ignition switch, it doesn't seem that this is the problem. Can anyone advise if this is a likely cause or what it could be. My daughter is devastated as she has been patiently waiting for me to buy her a car and then this has happened.

The ignition switch could be the cause. Do believe your PCM should have attempted to disconnect the power circuits though to stop a full drain.

You should load test the battery, make sure the contacts are clean.

I would assume the dealership should be able to find the root cause...

Did the warning lights come on and off when you turned the key when being jumped? If not then it would most likely just be the ignition switch. If it's the starter I would test it by shorting it with a long screwdriver. PCM's are also likely to go into a safe mode when there is a shorted wire or sensor.
