2011 won't move forward

Hi, i'm new to the forum, and unfortunately, not for a good reason. Our 2011 Malibu just lost all forward drive and I was wondering if i was just unlucky or if this a malibu problem. I guess I should have come here before buying it. This is one week after replacing the crap firestones on it that wore out in less than 20000 miles. This is on top of the poor fuel economy it has had since it was new, we average right around 20 mpg, not too good for a 4 cylinder. Hopefully, i'll find some good tips here to turn around an otherwise crappy ownership experience.

Moved from Introduction area since you're actually asking for help with an issue more than introducing yourself. I also changed the title for you so it'll generate a little more traffic.

2011 with less than 3/36 means it's covered under warranty. Poor mileage might be a symptom of what caused the failure.

@jimmyp, I’m sorry to read about your situation with your Malibu. DrivenDaily is correct, under normal circumstances this is something that would be covered under the Powertrain warranty.

Re: 2011 won't move forward

I know that its covered under warranty, it's just disappointing that it happened with less than 20 k, and makes me wonder about future reliability. I hope Chevy is willing to extend the warranty out to 10/100 so we don't have to worry about it happening again.

Powertrain:
Coverage is for the first 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Re: 2011 won't move forward

I completely and honestly understand your disappointment with your Malibu, jimmyp. I apologize on behalf of Chevrolet for your experience. General Motors works diligently to provide a high quality product that we hope will exceed your expectations. However, when dealing with a mechanical part, there is always a chance something might fail. That is something we cannot speculate on, and why we do provide a warranty on that item of 12 months, or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Please, let me know how things are going once you get your vehicle back from the dealership.

Re: 2011 won't move forward

Spoke to the dealership today, GM would like to rebuild the transmission, I told them I wasn't interested in having a rebuilt tranny in my car at 19k miles and would like it replaced. I told them i would accept a rebuild if they would extend the warranty for me,but they dont want to do that either.I guess I'll have to wait and see what the regional rep has to say.

Re: 2011 won't move forward

Well it's been 3 weeks and still no car back, apparently they are still waiting on the parts. I wouldn't have thought it would be so hard to get parts for a current model car. I guess we will see what the New Year brings. I emailed my salesman for a trade in value, but I didn't get a response. If I could get a decent trade in value I would just get a 2013 and be done with it.

Re: 2011 won't move forward

Hope they gave you a nice loaner at least. I still don't get why they don't just swap trannys out like most any other part.

Re: 2011 won't move forward

They gave me a Cruze as a loaner. One nice thing about the Cruze is that it gets the kind of gas mileage I thought the malibu would, although its not as nice a car as the Malibu. Hopefully, when i get my car back they will have fixed the tranny, and found out why the fuel mileage was so poor. 20 mpg just doesn't cut it.
