2001 axle shaft replacement

Alignment shop said the boot on the left side has a tear in it and I should change the entire axel (because the boot repair kits don't work and new axel is not very expensive). OK, I am sure I can handle the replacement myself but I wanted to know from folks that may have done it in the past if I should be aware of any tips or tricks at all.
TIA
Rick

Re: 2001 axle shaft replacement

Not a bad job, pretty straight forward. Sometimes the axles are a bit reluctant to pop out of the trans but keep at it and they come out. You'll find new shafts are actually very reasonable. I think the ones we get are in a Cardone box but who knows if Cardone makes them or reboxes someone elses part.

Yes, very easy. thank you for the encouragement.
Grease clean up was kind of gross.
One issue, When I popped out the old one no fluid came out.
