2007 Malibu w/ Panic Alarm Issues

My Malibu has always had it's quirks with the computer system in the car. The clock doesn't keep accurate time, and the car likes to claim there's a door ajar when there isn't ( I have just ignored these issues). Lately the panic alarm has been going off randomly and repeatedly at night, one night it went off like 6 times! Any idea's on what might be causing it? I don't think it's the trunk latch, I tried the trick about locking the doors from the inside with the fob and popping the hood, alarm didn't sound. Thanks Guys!

If this is happening when the car is closed and locked.........I think you stated the problem already. If the computer gets a "door open/ajar" signal while it is still locked.......that signals a break-in.

If it's doing that while the car is NOT locked.........??????

Until you can get the false "door open" fixed, don't lock it at all.....or lock the doors manually, which in my model does NOT arm the alarm.

Small problems when ignored long enough often become BIG problems !!

I also wanted to add that I just put new batteries in my fob and that I am also constantly having to replace the light bulb in the driver side taillight constantly!

Thanks for the info MalibuKen! But, my car is not equipped with a security alarm, just a PANIC ALARM that is trigger which should only be triggering when you press the button on the fob. If what your saying is the problem I would think the panic alarm would be going off whenever... it only goes off at NIGHT!

You may have a security alarm and not know it.
I have never seen a car that had ONLY a panic alarm.

Are you the original owner ?
Do you have the original owner's mnaual ?

You can easily test my theory.
Get inside the car. Lock the doors with the remote.
Do NOT start the car or put the key in the ignition (just sit there).
After a good long minute, pull the door handle to open a door.

You can do the same thing with a window down.
Reach in through the window to open the door with the inside handle.

Re: 2007 Malibu w/ Panic Alarm Issues

Press the lock button on the remote twice and watch the instrument panel for an indicator flashing about once every 5 seconds, or a little bulb sticking up from the dash flashing. If you see that then you have a CTD - content theft deterrent - built into the car. Since you have a panic I would be surprised if you don't have CTD. On the Gen7, pressing the remote lock once will lock the doors and then about 30 seconds later it will enable the CTD. Pressing remote lock twice enables it immediately. Yours is either the same or similar. (The apple don't fall far from the tree!)

Since it seems that you have CTD your intermittent door ajar signal is likely setting it off.

As MK suggests, locking the doors with the button that is on the inside of the doors will not enable the CTD. Just make sure you have the key before you shut the door!
