Cruise Control issue

Working on my nephews new to him 1998 Malibu.

It has kind of an odd issue. When you turn off the car and the cruise control was on at the time. When you go back to restart the car the next time. The cruise control is still on.

Not good so I pulled the fuse. Any ideas?

Re: cruise control issue

You mean the power light on the left side?

That's how it's supposed to work on the GMs.

That way, all I have to do is to get up to speed and bump the bottom right button to set the cruise. I wish Ruby Jean (the 1991 Cougar) did that!

I suggest you may want to hunt on eBay for a copy of the owner's manual. If none can be found there, check Helm Inc. ( www.helminc.com ) for a copy of the manual.

335K miles on original motor and tranny (only motor work 2 x LIM replacement), Monroe SensaTrac struts front and back (new at approx. 300K miles), and Alero discs in back. LS fogs added with custom wiring. HID high beams, HIR low and halogen fogs. Raybestos Pro Grade front rotors and Bendix D747 ceramic pads on front.

Addendum: Rest in peace. Surge tank blew, motor overheated, I think she's lived a long and useful life.

Re: Cruise Control issue

When I owned my only Toyota, a '90 Camry POS, I had to get used to it turning off with the key, but also if I came to a stop it would forget the set speed and I'd have to set it again. I don't like to have to keep pressing the same button over and over. Glad the 'Bu is On or Off depending on the position of the switch. That's about the only thing that isn't controlled by the BCM! ... Almost ...

Yep.
I don't drive too many GM's. And yes no owners manual.

How long does it retain the speed setting?

Until you turn the ignition off.

Or turn the switch off.

Re: Cruise Control issue

So the cruise is on. But there's no speed setting retained in the module after you restart the car?
