Rear View Camera in Rain

Today was the first day that I drove my car in the rain. When I backed up, I wanted to use the rear view camera. The only problem is there were water drops showing up on the screen. You really need to use the camera more in the rain and water drops are showing up on the screen!? They should have designed the camera lense where it's protected from water. So now I see I can't rely on the camera when it rains.

Re: Rear View Camera in Rain

This is a pretty common issue with vehicles with rear view camers. Our 2010 mazda CX-9 has the same issue. My mother-in-laws Town & Country has the same problem also.

Life begins at 140MPH...just wish I could get there!

Re: Rear View Camera in Rain

I've seen ads for the VW where the emblem on the rear pops open to reveal the camera. Hmmm, is it possible that Das Auto has something there?

Yes, my neighbor has a new VW and I noticed that. Seems like a great idea. I don't even know where the camera lense is located on my car.

On the Malibu it is located right by the license plate, not sure where it's at on the Cruze. Yea ours gets water on the camera too.

Yeah, on my neighbor's VW, there's a silver cap just below the trunk with a VW emblem on it. When they put the car in reverse, the cap tilts open. When you go forward, it closes and it just looks like a VW Emblem. Nice idea. Aside from protecting the camera lense from rain and water drops, it keeps the camera lense clean. No mud or dust can kick up on it.
