Premium fuel ???

I have a 2014 LTZ 2.0T and was wondering what your thoughts are on running regular unleaded gas and adding a octane booster vs. buying premium gas ? The reason I ask is where I live I can't get 91 octane I have to get 93. It's about .65 cents more per gallon. So if I buy say 14 gallons it cost me a extra $9.10. I can buy a bottle of octane boost cheaper than that. Just wondering what everyone's thought is on this.
Sorry if this has been debated before .

Re: Premium fuel ???

Do your research online about octane boosters by using google. After that I am confident you will just buy the premium gas.

I have to run premium in my truck since I put a diablo tune on it. It's also averages about 65 cents more here for premium and I have a 26 gallon tank. I buy the premium.

Re: Premium fuel ???

you can use regular unleaded but with using Super (even the 93 octane by you) may also yield a bit better gas mileage...on the SO's 2013 2.0 Turbo, her owner's manual and Window sticker mentioned you can use Regular unleaded (didn't even mention using Super 91, 92 0or anything) so that's what she used for awhile...no issues but unimpressive fuel economy compared to her previous V6 Monte Carlo SS without supercharger...

learning here that she should be using at least 91 octane (online owner's manual had been updated since and now recommends 91) we switched the car to 93 Top Tier found locally...she averages 3-4 MPG better with it in mostly stop and go traffic and the performance seems better as well...

Try gasbuddy.com to find the best prices on gasoline near you if you can, that can help too...I've been using Costco gasoline for nearly two years now and save money while using Top Tier in both regular and super unleaded....

Good luck with your choice,

Bill

Actually I have googled and read good and bad. That's why I was asking here to see if anyone had experimented with it.
I can run the 87 but I plan on getting the trifecta tune in the spring so I was curious if it would be cheaper to do the octane boost or just buy the premium fuel.

Re: Premium fuel ???

There's currently an identical thread in the gen 9 section about the same engine, I'll post the same thing here: Low octane gas is more likely to create deposits as your engine tries to compensate, and losing that extra MPG or two from lower octane is going to offset half the money you save at the pump anyway.

You have an engine designed to run premium gas, it seems a little late to try to justify cheaping out on regular fuel.

Re: Premium fuel ???

I seriously doubt you are going to find any octane booster that's gonna jump you up to 91 from 87.

Re: Premium fuel ???

I found a way to boost my octane!!!

A couple years ago I was in West Virginia and stopped for fuel. This is just one pump of several.

Re: Premium fuel ???

I noticed a difference when I went back to 89-91 in my 13 2.5L. Ive had a crazy vibration at highway speeds after rebalancing the tires several times among other things the higher octane eliminated the vibration. I dont know how but Im glad cuz I run 50 miles a day. Im guess'n poor fuel burn.
