Recall notice - emissions

Received a voluntary recall notice in the mail today. There could be a problem with the wiring harness connections for the knock sensors being reversed. This could cause too much or too little spark advance, causing pre-ignition or reduced engine performance and fuel economy.

Anybody else receive notice?

Hmmm, what car? You joined in 2008 but don't reveal what car you have in your avatar or signature.

Re: Recall notice - emissions

He's got a 2013 Malibu according to this thread http://www.chevymalibuforum.com/foru...9594#post99594
I'm just not sure what engine he has.
I tried googling for that recall and find nothing although someone else has mentioned that recall before.
Any further info on it, like the recall number, what engines it affects etc?

Re: Recall notice - emissions

This site lists recalls and tsbs for the Malibu but there is no mention of this recall regarding the knock sensor. Perhaps in a few days it will show up.

Here is also a site for service bulletins. I download the service bulletins in PDF format every month.

Sorry for not specifying. I have a 2013 LT with the 2.5 engine.

The recall notice doesn't list a recall number, only that it is a voluntary recall. Even though it's voluntary, it also says that it's recommended that you have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible because failure to do so could legally be determined to be lack of proper maintenance.

Re: Recall notice - emissions

Yes, I just found out about it at the dealer on 12/22 during an oil change. They took care of it while it was on the rack. Still haven't gotten a letter (maybe this week?) I think mine was just a "check" as the car doesn't seem to run any different than before, and that's not a bad thing.

According to my service documents, the recall was 12292. I mentioned it previously in this thread: Kudos for Dealer / Recall Notification

How long did it take for the dealer to check out your vehicle?

Re: Recall notice - emissions

Just received my notice today, but had the issue taken care of a week ago already when I had the car in for a 7,500 mile service. My shop quoted 1 hour to do the work, along with an oil change and tire rotation.

Same as cybirdy above. I was there maybe 1.5 hrs, but they were packed and a bit understaffed that day compared to the number of walk-ins that showed up. Certainly nothing unreasonable.
