Wow.. That seems a little crazy there.. The dealer wouldn't even deal with you? Is it like in the middle of nowhere and the only one in stock? I got mine with 13 miles on it.
08_MalibuChris 04-20-2008, 05:27 PM I just bought a 2008 Chevy Malibu LT2 With 6 Cyl. MSPRP was 26,924. I paid $23K even

Pizzaman - did this include any rebates/GM discounts or di they offer the car to you below dealer invoice? My co-worker just bought a LT1 in Flemington and they were only willing to go $250 below MSRP, so she utilized GM Supplier price instead.

No rebates or discounts of any kind. In fact, it was the dealers first price. I figured there was no point in haggling with them. I knew going in the dealers invoice price was by using Edmunds.com. I was satisfied with the first offer. Remember now, I ordered in November '07. Malibu's in our area were kind of rare back then and maybe there was some manufacturer to dealer incentive that I wasn't aware of at the time. Also remember, I opted not to order the sun roof. I just don't use for them very often. That saved $800.
The dealer told me they don't advertise, so they don't have that cost to recover. Give Brandow a shot. If you do, ask for Jim Lynch. He's the sales manager and he handled my transaction. You may drop my name as a reference, it may help. ;)

BuckyFan 05-10-2008, 09:15 PM 27,801.46 out the door after all taxes, title and fees on a fully loaded LTZ with sunroof and rear power center. Supplier discount plus haggling between dealers got the price down :)

$1000 GM Loyalty Cash.

I looked up the GM supplier price and it was $27,365 for an MSRP of $28,540 ($1200 off). Plus the $1000 loyalty would be $26,365. How did you get it down another $1200? Did you haggle below that price?
byeuboy 05-12-2008, 08:17 AM Funny story, GM had a 1% price increase in January but my dealer forgot to change the window sticker when the car arrived. I got the old price of $21,945 for my 1LT Silverstone with ebony interior. Plus I was awarded the owner loyalty rebate of $1,000 and another $1,000 April bonus cash which means I got the car for $19,945. Then I traded in a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and a 2002 Trailblazer which got me $16,500 so I walked away owing $3,445 plus tax. Pretty sweet deal. A few days ago I got a card from my salesman thanking me for the deal and telling me they gave me one of the $1,000 rebates by mistake. Too bad, so sad, the deal was done. And I sent him a sympathy card.

I don't get Supplier pricing. I get GMS (employee pricing). I work for General Motors at the Moraine Assembly Plant. As a GM employee, I am allowed to give away one SUPPLIER discount to a friend each month.

I don't know if I can get any type of discount on dealer installed accessories. I believe employee discounts are limited to vehicle purchase, and Onstar subscriptions.

Sorry, guess I should have clairified. No TTL was included in the purchase price, but I still have to pay it when the car is registered here in KS. Thank goodness for the stimulus check sitting in the mailbox.

Yeah my price sounds high too and I got a supplier discount. There aren't many dealers around here and the car is in demand. I had the car ordered with the options I wanted because all the ones around here on the lots were pretty basic. Nobody would budge from my supplier price and I didn't qualify for any discounts, not even the conquest because my previous car was a 98.
2008LTZcrazy 05-22-2008, 11:59 AM I paid $27,000 even OTD tax, lic. and everything included at the end of April.
espo19047 05-27-2008, 03:46 PM I think everyone of you can say you got a great deal... The car is worth every penny.
Some dealers had Coupons worth $250 each from GM. Three was the maximum along with the Loyalty or conquest. That is pretty good. With the 2009 coming there may be more incentives but all of the best cars will be gone. I think it is worth a few bucks not to settle.
Gromit 07-11-2008, 07:38 PM Red Jewel Tintcoat spring package $25,962 (I wanted the 4 cylinder w/six speed for gas mileage which was my main concern. The sunroof is nice, too).
Allegedly supplier price plus $1,000 conquest. Nobody asked me for any proof that the jeep I drove in was mine.
Who knows. They certainly made money on me, but I don't feel ripped off even if I paid a few bucks too much. Everybody's got to make a living.

Is GMS the Employee Discount or is that GMU?
Why can't GM ever come up with good acronyms?? :(
Grapes 07-12-2008, 07:58 AM Is GMS the Employee Discount or is that GMU?

Nope, I know suppliers of GM, and GM employees, the dealer marks up anywhere between 10-15% on their cost. GMS is 4% off the markup, GM Employee is roughly 2% less than dealer cost.
Sorry Fenwick, didn't really answer your question above. I don't know the acronyms but I'm guessing GMS=Supplier and GMU=Employee?

Noooo!
Don't do it. Friends can only use GMU. This is something I learned over at GMI, when a friend of mine wanted a Malibu. I found out that A) I can't give her a GMS discount, only GMU and B) If I bought the car for her using GMS and then turned the title over to her, I'd lose my future GMS discounts forever. GM's apparently very particular as to who uses what discount, and if they find out that a non-GM employee used a GMS discount, penalties would result.
And I realize that all the acronyms in this post started with "GM." :D
ram03reg 07-15-2008, 07:02 PM hmm so is there anyway i could get a GMU discount?

Arghhhh. It was a typo. I meant that a friend would probably issue a GMU discount, NOT GMS. Thanks for alerting me though. Actually, if someone uses a GMS and is not on the approved list, they WILL be billed for the difference between GMS and MSRP. Also, the issuing employee is subject to forfeiture (sp?) of future GMS participation.

Most GM employees are willing to give them out. I'm sure dsrtdukone could ask a friend or something.

Curious...is your lease through GMAC or an independent bank? The GM rates skyrocketed as of August 1st essentially to prevent anyone from leasing, but that deal & number seem very, very good in comparison to typical or at least what I last saw on the rates.
Jewelsedge 09-21-2008, 05:58 AM I got the car on 7/31. The lease is through GMAC. BTW..there is no "talking the dealer down" around here on this car. Selling like crazy and the dealers aren't "dealing". They don't have to on this car. I was contemplating either this LTZ or an '08 CTS with no much on it. (no moon, no Bluetooth, no remote start and nowhere to put anything up front in the dash, console) Pricing was very similar (CTS was about $20more/month)
Jewelsedge 09-21-2008, 06:02 AM I just pulled my paperwork....$26,921 was the "price" after all discounts.
beach 09-21-2008, 09:33 PM Ah, that clears that up. July 31st, right before they killed leasing rates;)
SAABturboGuy 09-26-2008, 05:42 PM My folks got an '09 LTZ V6 with rear power package and rear sunshade. (Is that every possible option?)
Anyway, I have to see the paper work to get the exact prices, but MSRP was around $29k. Employee price took it down to around $26.5k. Then, because they were turning the lease on their '06 SAAB 9-5 in a month early, an extra $2k came off. So in the end, it came out to around $24.5k. Around $26.5k or so including taxes and all that good stuff.
Did we do OK? Between the employee pricing and the discount for turning the SAAB in, they didn't actually bargain with the dealer. I bet there would have been some room there, since both discounts don't come out of the dealer's pocket. Regardless, seems like a lot of car for under $25k. My 1999 SAAB 9-3 was more than that back in '99.

Employee/GMS really is typically the lowest of low when it comes to below invoice pricing, but some dealers can further eat into what is left of their profit on a GMS deal and discount more. It would be rare to see it on a hot model, such as the Malibu, but I've heard of a few people scoring such deals on other leftovers and such.
Great price...awesome 2LT;)
rikmeister 09-29-2008, 08:49 PM with economy in a tailspin. if you have good credit, in the next few days i think you will get an even better price. sales will go down on all cars. dealers and companies will scramble to offset the economy or risk selling no cars. my advice just be patient if you have not bought yet better deals are around the corner. if you credit is not good though you better buy now.
Great price...awesome 2LT;)
Thanks ;-p

Put 1k down balance financed was $19,738 for 72 months at 5.5% interest!!! Was going to go through GMAC for financing but was told that they no longer offer that rate, (considering they are probably filing bankruptcy shortly), and was put through Bank Of America for the same rate! Heck of a deal, and helps if the salesman is someone you went to college with!!
alivingMalibu 10-23-2008, 10:14 PM 2008 loaded 4cyl/6spd LTZ just under $26,000 out the door. Or just under $24,000 without taxes, etc.
Just about the same deal for me yesterday. I paid $26,300 Out-The-Door for a brand new 2008 Malibu LTZ -Spring Special (4 cylinder). It also has the power sunroof.
DieZel 10-24-2008, 10:09 AM MSRP was $28,450ish...
Sold for $25,100ish...
wondering how lousy the residual value will be on these with the way GM was giving them away in August...
bandit 11-03-2008, 02:39 PM I'm about to start shopping for a Malibu. Would like to get a 2008 LTZ 4-cyl if there are still some around, or a 2009 if I must (it seems the only significance difference other than the default engine is the Bluetooth phone).
Given the terrible sales results in October, can I expect a great deal? Any advice on how to get it? How have people done recently for prices?
The purchase will be in New Jersey (Essex or Union county). (Any recommended dealers or dealers I should avoid?)
Thanks for any advice!
Malo83 11-03-2008, 03:49 PM I would recommend going thru the Dealers Internet Sales Manager, no hassles with the floor guys and they deal with you all thru the internet ;)
rikmeister 11-03-2008, 05:28 PM multi has quite a few leftover bu's. they are in northern part of the toxic petrochemical capital
bandit 11-03-2008, 06:33 PM Sure, I could go through the Internet sales manager, but I actually want to test drive the cars and get a look at the colors in person! Do you recommend I do that in person first and then shift to dealing with the Internet person? Doesn't somebody lose a commission that way?
By the way, I see GM is starting the Red Tag sale early (tomorrow). Anyone think the Malibus will get a nice discount?
hoahai 11-07-2008, 08:04 PM Bought used but almost brand new a 08 2LT White/Titanium from CarMax @19,750 + TTL. The car had 1500 miles on it and again still smelled brand new. It has all options except V6, engine block heater & sunroof. Car Fax showed that the car was owned for more than 3 weeks. CarMax told me a senior citizen owned it but did not like its MPG so he traded it to them for a smaller car. I believed them as I remembered to see the MPG was at 17 on the DIC before resetting it. My MPG is now at 23 with 80% in city and with gas price now under $2/a gallon I don't see it a problem at all ;). I had been watching this car for 4 months before buying it. Sincerely, if I had not found that deal, I would have bought an Accord...:D

Good deal for you, definitely. Sounds like a real bone head had it before, likely running around town 100% from the lot without ever resetting the DIC, or, you know, giving it more than 1k miles to actually break in.
hoahai 11-08-2008, 07:19 PM I think it is a OK deal. I had been shopping around for 4 months for 2LT and the lowest quote I could get was $21,800 + TTL. But with the red tag event is going on with $1250 bonus cash, there will be more deals from now till 1/5/09. Just check car max web site, they have a brand new 08 2LT with almost the same spec listed for $18,949 in WI.

Quite true. But as always, the possibility of a better "deal" after you make one yourself always happens. The fact that you have a car you like and for a price you were happy with--already--means a lot.
Deals are to be had and always improve or at least seem better, but that's how it goes. Do it now, and don't care about what may happen in weeks or months to come...otherwise, no one would buy anything;)

Totally agreed. I am very happy with my decision; otherwise, I would still be driving my civic 96 today . Also just check CarMax, that car now goes back to 20K! BTW, I have really enjoyed your posts in these forums. No wonder people called you the smart guy here :D

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/gm-2k-off-everything-via-garage-mate-coupon-program/
Our guys on the front line tell us that GM has just launched a nationwide coupon program called “Garage Mate.” The General has mailed an unspecified number of consumers a $2k-off coupon good for every 2008 AND 2009 vehicle The General sells (including the Pontiac G8). The two grand is on top of any and every other available discount. More info as it becomes available.

Yes. If you're not already on the list or didn't get one, you can't do anything now to do so. It's another one of those selected at will offerings, to a certain target group by GM.
I had a thread on another forum where a dealer posted the DealerWorld info on it, but can't find it at the moment. It doesn't matter, really, because if you didn't get it you can't now, but still details are nice for those who might have.
Steel City Born 11-16-2008, 10:38 PM I just purchased my 09 Malibu LTZ in red jewel coat metallic fully loaded for 23,457 after rebates. With taxe, plates, etc., it ended up coming to 25,119 but I also had to tack on $2200 that I owed on my 05 Cobalt that I traded in. That took it to 27,319.
With $1000 down, I ended up at $473 a month @63 months (5.5% apr). I was looking at the lease, but for a 4 year lease it was $400 which was absolutely pointless. Ill end up paying $30,799.
Very satisfied with the purchase. Illl probably be purchasing some 22's for it come spring.

Sounds great. Just skip the 22's idea...WAY too much, especially for this FWD car tuned for such great ride & handling...and you'll be all set. That's a good deal.
sdmalibulover 11-21-2008, 12:05 AM 08 Spring Edition has much better deals on them. I was quoted OTD of 24000 in AZ. There's virtually no difference in 08 and 09 LTZ. I think you overpaid.

Small revisions such as the 18" LTZ aluminum wheels now on the 4-cyl standard (vs. the '08s chrome Pontiac G6 17" wheels), deleted side marker lamp & power pedals, and standard Bluetooth now. Not much, but noticeable.
There are still some '08s sitting around, you just have to look. Around here, it seems like mostly a handful of '08 LTZ V6's still left, though not many at that.

Yeah, but better deals are ahead of us. Wait for dealerships to go down one by one around X'mas and massive liquidation of their vehicles.

I paid 26,300 OTD with a sunroof around a month ago for a Spring Special '08 LTZ here in CT. The prices you quoted are rock bottom at this point.
With a response like yours, it's no wonder why GM and other companies are in trouble. They are entiltled to some profit!
lexiking 11-23-2008, 12:07 AM Just bought my 2009 Malibu LS this afternoon
Black one, brand new
17300 + TTL = 19500 OTD
I'm in Chandler, Arizona.
Did I overpay this car ?
I decided to buy a new sedan 10 days ago and most of my time was spent to choose the brand/model. Hence I did not even fight with dealers.
I don't care whether my price is the lowest as long as it is fair enough in the same region.
Thank you.
Btw, this Malibu is really a beautiful baby.

bandit 11-30-2008, 01:05 AM Using the information on this forum as a basis for my negotiations, I just signed the papers on a 2009 Malibu LTZ in Red Jewel with a moonroof. $23,900. After TTL, it's a little over $26,000 out the door (New Jersey).
Thanks for posting your prices, everybody. Very helpful.
I hope that's not a 6 cylinder, because it is an excellent price for even a 4 cylinder LTZ. If you got the 6 at that price I am taking you along for my next car purchase.
bandit 12-01-2008, 02:48 PM No, I got the 4-cyl. Even though gas prices have dropped a lot recently, they will come back up some day and we should all use less if possible. I tested both and decided the 4 was fine for me.
rikmeister 12-01-2008, 09:30 PM that was a very good price bandit. where did you get it.
MImalibu 12-01-2008, 11:18 PM I finally got my car today I picked up my '09 V6 Summit White LTZ no sunroof for $24,053(rebates+ taxes)

Base price before TTL: $24,347 - $1000 rebate = $23,347.
Had them throw in a class 2 hitch, and window tinting no charge.
Dallas, Texas.
$1300 for extended warranty 100K,$100deductable,5yr since
I drive 20-25K year.
Got the '09 for the bluetooth over the '08.
Went to 6 dealers in one day. Between the first and last dealer saved $6,200
on decreased car price, increased trade value, deal on extended warranty normally
$1700.

shaqdaddy34 12-03-2008, 09:10 PM Hi, I've been looking at getting a Malibu and stumbled upon this forum while doing my research. This is a great site and appreciate everyone's help. Here is the offer: I am looking at a 2009 Malibu LTZ, black metallic, 4cyl, 6 speed, ebony/brick int, sunroof, etc (fully loaded) After some rebates and GM employee pricing they offered $22,524 (not including tax). Did I forget any information? Does that sound pretty good? I appreciate any help. Thanks

Looks great bottom line wise, but be specific with what the employee price is and what rebate(s) are being applied. If it's really employee price minus rebates (seems like it, for that low of a number), you'll be hard pressed to do better anywhere, and I'd jump on it.

$5,700 off sticker is excellent. I may rush over to Niagara Falls Chevrolet and offer them $21,500. :)
Good luck with the new Malibu.
I'm in the Buffalo, NY area and I just bought a Red Jewel/ Cocoa/cashmere 09 2LT Malibu. No moonroof. With TTL and everything the total came to 29,200. With a 5 year finance and interest rate of 6.99 and GMS as well as a bunch of other rebates the price of the vehicle was 18,900.
Now thats a great deal!:)

So an update....I ended up buying last week, and I love it. Thanks for everyone's help. I got an 09 Malibu LTZ black metallic ext/ebony/brick int. Congrat on your new Bu! You made me drooling at your deal :p I have 08 2LT with remote starter too and I cant stop using it these days.
You will find that you have made the right decision. The Bu is better than Camry and Honda. Go to carcomplaints.com, and you see that many issues have been filed on Accord 08
Tom_D 12-22-2008, 03:12 PM I had been shopping for a car for about a month and had narrowed it down to a Malibu or Sonata. Ultimately I liked the Malibu Better, but for the same price as a loaded Sonata, I could only get a LT1 with sunroof and convenience package when dealing with my local dealers. I was set to pull the trigger on the Sonata (for 20K) and someone recommended that I check out a dealer 1 1/2 hours from here, Simmons-Rockwell in Bath NY. On their website they listed three 2009 LTZs six cylinders w/sunroof for $22,500 (MSRP $29060), much lower than I had seen that car and only a couple thousand difference with the Hyundai. After speaking with the guy on the phone, he said that their bottom line was $21,999, well that defiantly peaked my interest and I made an excuse to go and test drive one that night.
The LT1 1 had driven was a 4 cylinder, and between the trim level and the more powerful engine, I absolutely fell in love with the car. I drove a silver LTZ with the brick/ebony combination, but ended up liking the colors of the Blue exterior, cocoa/cashmere interior, the only one of the three with that interior. Through email I offered them $21,500 thinking that that would get me with in 1.5K of the Sonata, and eventually we settled on $21,700, with them picking up $200 of the fees. Total OTD $23,700.
I picked the car up last Saturday and am thrilled with it, especially at what I feel is a pretty good deal.
Congrats Tom D, I am sure you will be as happy with as all of us are with ours.
BTW, you have very good taste, that is the same color combination I have.
Yamatr3 12-25-2008, 06:31 AM I bought an 08 LTZ V6 last friday. The sticker was 28495.00 and I got it for 24750.00 plus tax etc. This was in Florida.
Tjeepster 12-25-2008, 11:24 AM Just purchased a 2009 Malibu LT2 Red Jewel, 4cly, 6spd, mat package, 110v power package right off the delivery truck for $21,200 minus $3,420 from my GM card for a total price of $17,780. After adding the temp tag and documentation fee, I was out the door at $18,000. I had to look at dealers within a 120 mile radius via the internet and finally made the deal with one 60 miles away. I am very pleased with the dealer....they treated me like I paid full price. A equally equipped Accord or Camry was going for $30,000.
mookdoc 12-25-2008, 01:41 PM Nice ride Tjeepster! It's is unfortunate that all the so called well schooled American shoppers who feel that a Chevy is some uncool,sub-par automobile. Yet they unconditionally buy foreign cars for thousands and thousands 8,000-10,000 sometimes because it has a navigation screen and bluetooth! Even that still gets you a 4cly and requires higher octane from some makes. If that is not enough even having something fixed on a foreign car at their dealership still does not even phase that savy well schooled so called American shopper. Then there is the well it holds their value much better than a Chevy. Let me clear that one up also! 5-6-7 yrs out my friend they are both worth nothing.
hoahai 12-25-2008, 02:36 PM ...A equally equipped Accord or Camry was going for $30,000.
We are in the same boat. I decided to buy a used-but-almost-brand-new 08 02LT in September instead of a base Accord LX-P. The 02LT has many luxury options that might be only available in the Accord EX model. But the comfortable ride and the nice exterior look were the ones sold the Bu to me... Enjoy your new Bu as I am
slhaas 01-11-2009, 07:04 PM 2009 2LT with all the options, tinted windows, etc.. V6. List was $29k. $3000 in discounts, $3500 in trade in, but they gave me $6300 (using the rebates) to cover some negative equity.

How much negative equity did you have? What was your trade in worth, and how much did you owe? Remember at all?
I'm currently looking at an 09 LT for $15,565 price with incentives at a NJ dealer. I live in PA. I'm currently in a loan on a 2007 Pontiac G6 that if traded in would put me roughly $6,000 in negative equity. I spoke to the guy on the phone and he said they'd take care of it. Taking care of it usually means throwing it on with the new loan. So I'm hoping he's a little more considerate than that and takes me down to about 2/3,000 in negative equity and I meet the incentives to get the $15,565 price listed.
What do you all think?
Anyone know what kind of incentives must be met in order to get the incentive prices?
LTZeeeee 01-12-2009, 02:10 AM 2008 LTZ with 10800 miles and everything but the outlet package for $17800. No dings, wear or tear, clean carfax, from a Chevy dealership.
technocrat313 01-13-2009, 01:01 AM With the incentives that ended on 5 Jan, I purchased a 2009 Malibu LTZ V6, with sunroof and power port for $23,931+tax. It started at $30,195 MSRP. GMS pricing was given to me at $27,931. Subtract $4000 in rebates and then add tax & title. Out the door at $25,750.
bballr4567 01-21-2009, 03:30 PM We just got our 09 LTZ this weekend. The car stickered for $27,645 with everything except sunroof, rear power and the V6. We ended up paying $21,715 without our down payment. We got the military discount, GM loyalty and the 1250 cash back. Then we had a car that was given to her for a trade in at $3k. Put $2500 down just so we could finance $19k.
Pretty DAMN happy with the AMAZING car we got for $21k.
I think I need to get that GM card for the next car I buy!
RugerRedhawk 01-23-2009, 10:37 AM '08 LT2 25,000 miles for $11,000.
ebz06 01-25-2009, 02:21 PM Yesterday, after negotiating with 4 dealers for a V6 LTZ with varying degrees of success, I finally settled on a deal for $21,722. That included a dealer (MSRP $30,249) discount plus GM Cashback ($1250), Loyalty ($1000), Lessee ($2000) and a GM Card top-off ($2000). As the wife would say: "I couldn't leave it there". (Besides, the last 'bu was leased and goes back this month).
But, I'm satisfied.:)

So I'm hoping he's a little more considerate than that and takes me down to about 2/3,000 in negative equity and I meet the incentives to get the $15,565 price listed.
What do you all think?
Anyone know what kind of incentives must be met in order to get the incentive prices?
I thought I got a good deal, but some of you have found monster deals on yours... especially the LTZ. I owed 8300 on my car. They offered me 3500, but the rebates pretty much wiped out the negative equity so it wouldn't roll over into the new loan. Discounts, red tag, etc. took the price down further.
bballr4567 01-25-2009, 06:30 PM I got my LTZ that stickered at $27,645 for right at $21k. $3k on our trade in, $1k loyalty cash, $1250 in cash rebate, little over $1200 for military discount. All in all we financed a tiny bit over $19k so I really cant complain about it at all.
bf1942 01-26-2009, 09:06 AM Hello, everyone great forum.
My old car was out of order, so on a snowy day Dec 1st went to the chevy dealer to test drive the Malibu.
After clearing off the snow had a great drive.
I wanted the 2008
because of the side markers and the dealer located one 20 miles north of us. Later that night rolled out the door with a White 4Cyl 2LT with side moldings.
Price was $19,100 (with Red tag sale)
-$2000 GM card earnings
+$2000 TTL
out the door $19,040.
Did not notice that nite that the bumpers were a slightly more yellowy white that the rest of the car,
the delaer has been very good, and offered to have them repainted at a body shop. I scheduled for March, anyone else had a bumper color issue?
tdkes 01-26-2009, 01:27 PM This morning I bought an Imperial Blue base LS - no options. MSRP $22275. After rebates, "topped off" GM Card rebate, and trade (Cirrus with 117k miles), the bottom line was $14.5k before tax. I'm happy.
slhaas 01-28-2009, 04:30 PM OK I looked it up to be sure. I paid 23467 when it was all said & done + the negative equity, title, tax, license fee, etc. for a new 2009 2LT with floor mats, trunk cargo net, V6 engine, sunroof, and all the chrome trim.

It is keyfob that gives you real time info about the car... I think it's things like tire pressure, etc.
Sounds like a great deal to me. Sounds like your bottom line was well below invoice? I just got a '08 3.6L LTZ with 20K miles, black w/tan interior for $17900 in CT.
ebz06 01-30-2009, 02:30 PM If I'm not mistaken, I believe the "advanced auto-start" is the new technology that automatically reads the outside temperature and starts the applicable climate control system (heat/AC). This is different than the current auto-start, which basically starts the car with whatever settings you left it on previously. Don't believe it's available (yet) on the 09 Malibu though.
KKWBL 01-30-2009, 07:23 PM New member here....first post. I just purchased today a new 2009 Malibu LTZ 4 cyl. Lots of incentives that enticed me to purchase a new vehicle vs leasing. Original MSRP = $28,500
- $1650 (Negotiated starting point prior to rebates and incentives)
- $1250 Customer Cash
- $1000 Loyalty Bonus
- $2000 Lessee Bonus
- $3000 GM Card (GM bumped up my card savings by $1000)
Final Price = $19,600 before taxes, license, etc
I think I am going to like this car....I am now adding some goodies on top of the above...tinting window, mudflaps, spoiler.
Speedster 02-02-2009, 01:42 PM I just bought a Summit White 2009 LS. After rebates and incentives, but before tax and licensing, I paid $13,777. But that includes a $2,000 "topped off" gm card rebate. If you don't include that I paid $15,777. This was an advertised special and probably a loss leader.
bandit 02-02-2009, 10:59 PM Wow, Speedster, that's $6500 off MSRP on the base model (where presumably there's less room for a discount). Almost 30% off. Impressive.
But how can it be a "loss leader" if it's the only real product you are buying? The dealers can't stay in business just servicing the car and selling accessories, can they?

"Loss leader" in this context means the dealership had 15 malibus, but only one was advertised in the newspaper - the one I bought. The dealer (probably) took a small loss on the advertised unit, but sold a few at higher prices. Ads bring in traffic.
Also, part of that special price was the GM owner's rebate. That got me an additional $1,000 rebate.
If you want a rock bottom price and you are flexible on color and options, it is basically impossible to beat the advertised price in a newspaper at a high volume dealership.

kperkins 02-04-2009, 07:50 AM I just traded my 2008 LT2 4 cyl/ 4 spd with 8200 miles for a 2009 LT2 4 cyl/6spd with the exact same options. Paid $3000. difference out the door.
I like the 6 spd much better. The car is more responsive. The RPM's @ 70mph went from 2500 to 2000.

That's an excellent deal. 3 grand to move up a model year and get a superior transmission. I'd do that, too.

With all the incentives they offered, I couldn't hardly turn it down. They jumped my GM Card from $500. to $2000. & gave me $2250. for GM loyalty. So that was $4250. in incentives & $16000. trade in for my 08. I thought it was a pretty good deal.
After driving the 6 spd. I'm glad I did it!!
slhaas 02-04-2009, 07:56 PM Rumor is there will be a $1500 (average) tax incentive for people that bought a car in the end of 2008 or 2009. A local dealer sent a letter to the president asking them to match dealership incentives of $5000 to spur sales of domestic cars. I hope it's retroactive.

Is that a tax deduction or a tax credit? There's a big difference. The credit is worth a lot more money to me...
slhaas 02-05-2009, 10:27 AM I think a credit... right now nothing's been signed so it's all still in the air, but it looks like it'll happen.
jjdesch 03-04-2009, 03:22 AM I am buying an 08 mailibu LT1 with 18k miles for 14,500 +tax off a honda lot. This would be my first GM, and I don't have GM card. I checked the used car pricing through edmunds and thought I was getting a good deal until I found this site, but then I did not qualify for all the new car incentives.
prentp 03-18-2009, 02:55 PM I traded a 07 Impala with 50,000 miles in on a 09 LT2 for a difference of $14,000. Trade value on my Impala would normally be around 8500 so it looks like I paid around 22,500 for mine.
I also got the 0% for 60 months on this deal.
lockhart19 04-06-2009, 09:22 PM Come on everybody, you can do better. You are making me feel good about my first actual purchase. Just turned in a 2006 Malibu SS off lease 5 months early.
Overall got a bunch of incentives, lease loyalty, and they found one with last years pricing.
Final out the door price, tax, title, etc., with no trade in, money down, or GM Card Cash, (maxed out $3000 on wife's G6 lease last year)

I bought a 09 Bu LT2 on 2 /27/09. Summit White with Cocoa/Cashmere leather. 4 banger moldings remote start bluetooth, floor mats, rear power.and sunroof. MSRP was 26,640. Got 5350 in rebates and my wonderful MIL put me on her GM card that had another 5000 on it. Needless to say I loved the deal and I love the car. Good dealer went and picked up the car 30 miles away. 5 free oil changes nitro in the tires. Only thing I want to do is a lite window tint.Got a 5% interest rate on 10,000. Plus now I can write off the sales
tax next year. What a great car.Thought about an LTZ , but a loaded LT2 is very close.
luckycat 04-28-2009, 09:26 AM I got the GMS price on the LTZ w/sunroof and paid 26,100, and 0% (could have taken 2750 off instead). I didn't have a trade in, no lease swap, no GM Card, no "GM Loyalty". What is "GM Loyalty"? I had a 1999 Olds Intrigue that I sold privately...but man if having a 99 Intrigue & a 2004 Chevy and buying a Malibu isn't "loyalty" than I don't know what is.

By discounts do you include the 2750 and what else to bring you down to 23128? (Another 2K in there somewhere?)

I got supplier discount for being a credit union member, I got the additional $2750 knocked offf, they took an additional $600 off, and I believe it was another $500 for the credit union program.
k9bytes 04-28-2009, 05:50 PM I got a 2lt with the 3.6 pkg only and 7 mi on it. Sticker with shipping was 27,170. 2750 off and an additional 736 too. Then with 3500 from my GMAC card, (old program that the tried to get me to change) the total before trade was $20,184. Then they gave me 5500 for my 2005 Jetta with 195000 miles so I paid $14684. I guess they wanted to sell the car.

crmwell 04-29-2009, 03:03 PM Yesterday, I bought a 09 LTZ with Red Jewel paint, $295 and roof $800 for a MSRP of $28,695. I turned in my lease 5 months early that saved me $2,200 in payments that I didn't have to make. Saved $1118 for Supplier discount, got $1,500 off for early turn in of the lease and $2,750 rebate for a total of $5,368 off MSRP= $23327 plus tax and doc fees. I coudn't afford to pass that up. I was very unhappy with my Pontiac G6 retractable hardtop. Alot of rattles they couldn't fix and other issues. GM had a window of 5 days that you could turn in and waive 5 months of payments. This was a no brainer for me! So far, I love the car. Thursday she gets the Zaino polish treatment! It will be glowing when I'm done!:D

Not to bad??
Trend1 06-05-2009, 04:12 PM I think I stole my 2LT:
The sticker was $27,515 dealer sold it to me for $21,500, GM top off my GM card to $3000 so my total cost was $18,500! :)
Jebus05 07-21-2009, 04:14 PM I live in Canada so my 2LT had a sticker price of 29,850. I paid $25,670 but I also got 4 winter tires on steal rims and rubber mats as well as a tom tom GPS unit... Over all I really think I got a good deal.

MJM472 09-23-2009, 08:36 PM We found a 08 white LTZ/ black/brick w/ only 1800 real miles and worked the dealer to $20,600. ... I love this car...
yyz_ltz 09-29-2009, 10:29 AM Fully loaded LTZ with Diamond White premium paint and sunroof $25,800 and that is in Canada. (GM employee discount, buzz bucks, GM visa and $3000 GM incentive.)
Red LTZ 09-29-2009, 10:24 PM Bought it new:
Sticker 29,490
Talked the dealer down to $27,000
GM card top off brought it down to $24,000
Could have had another $2000 in rebates, but I took the zero % financing instead. Which if you do the math is like a 4.5% loan but the interest is paid up front by surrendering the rebate. Since my bank was offering 5.3% it was better to take the financing deal.
tabeytabe 11-24-2009, 11:09 AM I'll be picking up my first Malibu (first Chevy, for that matter) on Friday:
'09 SIlver Ice Metallic LTZ with 28k miles (kind of high, was a rental vehicle... but i'm ok with that) for $17,750
ChevyFreak 11-25-2009, 12:03 PM 2010 2LT 26 miles after we got done test driving the hell outta it out the door for 18,500 with all warranties bumped to 5 year 100,000 and paint and interior protection for 5 years.
jeepgrady 11-25-2009, 03:16 PM I find that impossible to believe. The 2LT without any options has an invoice of about $24910. No way would the dealer take $6,400 off of invoice, and add in the extended warranty, paint and interior protection. The only way he could was if he screwed. you with your trade.
2010 2LT 26 miles after we got done test driving the hell outta it out the door for 18,500 with all warranties bumped to 5 year 100,000 and paint and interior protection for 5 years.
ChevyFreak 11-25-2009, 03:28 PM Grand total with trade and all rebates that I could possible get was 16 something then with tax and all the warranty stuff we financed 18500. List was 27900 ish.
jeepgrady 11-25-2009, 05:07 PM Now that makes more sense. When stating what you paid for your new vehicle, you have to back out the amount of the trade which has no relevance on the price of the new car. For arguments sake, after my trade I paid something like $11,000, however, my trade was $13500. So the actual price of my NEW car was about $24500, not $11000.
ChevyFreak 11-25-2009, 05:15 PM The thread asked how much you paid not how much the car came out to be. I paid 18ish for it not 24 or 27 I paid 18.
jeepgrady 11-25-2009, 05:25 PM Well if that's the case, make sure you include the finance charges that you pay by the time the car is paid off. Using your analogy, If your trade is worth more than your new car, you got it for free, which you really didn't.
tabeytabe 11-27-2009, 07:39 PM The thread asked how much you paid not how much the car came out to be. I paid 18ish for it not 24 or 27 I paid 18.
I think it's kind of obvious that everyone is posting what the price of the car was after things like negotiating and rebates, but not trades and down payments. And those that did include trades/down payments at least went into detail about how they got to that final price.

Again I refer to the thread title what did you pay? I paid 18ish so I stated how much I paid if anyone wants to know how I got there they can ask me. I don't feel the need to type how when it was asking how much I paid not how I paid what I paid.

But the forums are supposed to be useful. It's not useful to provide a "cash paid" number without also telling us about what else you traded in to get the net cash price. I think that's the only point people are trying to make. Thank you for the information.

majfrizz 11-28-2009, 02:53 PM just bought a new Red 2010 LTZ, MSRP was $28,850, price before reabtes was $25,059 (yes below dealer wholesale costs, they goofed and said they would still sale it) then deducted $4,750 in rebates and incentives. before taxes it was $20,309. Not baddddd
jeepgrady 11-28-2009, 04:31 PM $4750 in rebates and incentives? Wow. Could you give us breakdown as to how that was calculated? I bught last week and there was only $2000 in rebates.
majfrizz 11-28-2009, 08:52 PM $1500 for Malibu, $500 for 60 day buy back, $1000 for old age vehicle (car on lot for more than 45 days), $750 for being a member of USAA and $1000 from GM Master Card points. that should add up...a little bit helps
i was looking around at the units that qualified for the old age invoice, i figured if GM was giving out cash, i would be more than happy to buy one of the older units.

Lol! Yes, that is the name of the thread. And I guess for those who decide to take the title of the thread so literally and totally ignore the actual content, simply stating what you paid is sufficient...

Congrats on the good deal,
Where did you find out about the extra $1k off, for a car on the lot longer than 45 days?
I wonder if that is a new instant rebate , or has it been on the books nationwide for a while?

Invoice minus
$100 Costco discount (yipee!)

Could get another $1000 off if I owned a Toyota. Not a fantastic deal but still best bang for the buck in this class. BTW I test drove a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. Fantastic car and I would have bought it had they offered any incentives. They are selling at MSRP because they just received the first two vehicles this week.
jesslinger 02-20-2010, 06:35 PM Just got my 2010 Imperial Blue LTZ, Ebony leather, 4cyl/A6
I originally wanted silver but one could not be found right away. I also received the power package for free because it was not listed on the build sheet. This option includes the 120V power outlet in the rear console and the rear window shade. $250 adder for $0. :)
The only other option I wanted and didn't get was the sunroof. I'll live.

What was the sticker and what did you pay before TTL? The only way to help people out is to let them know the exact numbers before TTL because TTL will be different for every state.

Bettis 03-27-2010, 10:07 AM I just bought a 2006 Malibu Maxx SS. Paid $15,000CDN with 33000KM. All the options (DVD, Front and Rear Moonroof, Remote Starter, etc) and Black on Black.
Just bought a 2010 Black Granite Metallic w/ Ebony Interior.
Total MSRP was:
$23,435 - base 1LT + destination
525 - power convenience package
250 - interface package
195 - black granite metallic paint
100 - compact spare tire
$24,505 - Total MSRP
I ended up paying $19,630 + TTL ($21,800 OTD) which I thought was a very good deal but who knows!? Either way I'm happy and am looking forward to driving this thing around.
By the way, can anyone tell me anything about the extended GM warranty? I was thinking about buying the 72 month 72k extended bumper to bumper. Cost was $1389 (originally $1689). Is that worth it?

Unfortunately, I can't take the credit myself. My wife is a very hard nosed negotiator, to the point that sometimes I have to walk away because it gets embarrassing. I do however like being on this side of her negotiating tactics.

CoKTM 04-26-2010, 07:37 PM I'm picking my new LTZ up tomorrow. Only option is the V6.
Sticker $29,270... paying $28,301 - $3000 (Cash to Customer) - $1000 (Customer Loyalty) - $500 (Denver Auto Show rebate) - $1000 (GM Card Rebate) - $5500 (04 Aztek Trade in) + $199 D&H. I'm happy with the deal and looking forward to the car.
phantom1584 05-01-2010, 10:48 PM Just bought mine today. 2010 Malibu LTZ, with V6, sunroof and spare tire. Sticker was $30,220 I got $3,500 in trade (2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT1), $1,000 more because it was a Pontiac (some GM loyalty deal), $3,000 rebates, and the preferred pricing (whatever its called when you work with a company and get some extra discount). Total of $8675 off, for a financed amount of $23,715 (includes fees). My only possible regret was on the financing side, I did 72 months at 5.9%. May refi that to lower % and 60/mo. I could have taken 0%/60, but would have lost 4k in discounts. Looking back though, I believe the math would have favored 0%. I also have a Traverse loan at 0%/60, and once thats paid off, the Malibu loan would be paid off in short order.
So, think that all is a decent deal? Kind of wish those paddle shifter things weren't there, and the button controls on the wheel are a bit small. But other than the minor nitpicks, liking the car so far.
RaineMan 05-11-2010, 04:04 PM I paid 16000 for my 2009 LT with 34000 miles... dealer even threw in a 100,000mi bumper to bumper warranty. Guess I might as well keep this one for a while.
hoahai 05-13-2010, 03:15 PM ... 100,000mi bumper to bumper warranty. ... That is unbelievable to me  Are you sure it is the bumper to bumper warranty? Or it is just the drivetrain like every car has?
Silver LTZ 05-13-2010, 05:20 PM That is unbelievable to me  Are you sure it is the bumper to bumper warranty? Or it is just the drivetrain like every car has?
I thought the same.
RaineMan 05-14-2010, 11:13 AM It is bumper to bumper. Not through GM but through another warranty company. Valid at any GM dealer. The dealer does the work and then bills the warranty company, no up front costs to me. I imagine they threw it in b/c my family has bought 6 cars from them since 2006. My Cobalt SS, Mom's HHR, Dad's Malibu, Dad's Vette, Uncle's Malibu and now mine.
dressanderc 05-22-2010, 10:38 AM I picked up my 08 LS three days ago. Its the V6, has 67,000 miles on it. Got it for $11,200 after tax it was $12,300

RaineMan 05-27-2010, 11:23 AM XM only broadcasts to the contiguous 48 and Hawaii, it's not available in Mexico.

Plague 07-27-2010, 10:59 PM The MSRP on my car was $28,410 After dealer rebates and suck the price came down to $25,640. After that I went to my bank account and pulled out enough to knock it down to an even 20k. Financed it outside of the dealership, got a truly badass interest rate.
Phinnster 07-31-2010, 09:20 AM Bought my Black Granite LTZ V6 last week in Toronto.
MRSP-38125
Paid- 31499 with 0% financing for 60 months.
Test drove the Accord, Fusion and Altima.
I was undecided between the Malibu and Altima, but the GM employee pricing offer and 0% sealed the deal.
Anyone in Canada looking to buy a vehicle should join the APA. Membership is only $65/year and they can save you thousands of dollars on a car purchase.
Anyway, I absolutely love this car. It's the best of both worlds. Cruises nicely and has a nice kick if you need it. Oh and the BOSE system with 2 subwoofers is awesome. Almost as good as an upper level aftermarket system.

Good deal! I bought my car used too when it had only 1.6K miles on it. I saved about 2K compared to the same brand new model + options.
RaineMan 08-09-2010, 09:07 AM The only thing that bothers me about all this is how poorly the Malibu is holding its value. GM practically has to give the things away to get people to even come take a look and it kills the resale. A Malibu that was $25,000 new goes for $16,000 on the used lot a year later, which means the dealer paid around $12,000 for it on trade.
I know there is some initial depreciation... but a car losing 50% of its value in a single year is a bad sign.

It's not that bad, but it seems like the LTZ and LT2 V6 are holding value better though. At least going by what I see for sale on Ebay. I just found some '08 LTZ's on there still going for 18+ and I have never seen one lose 50% of value in a year. You can't get a year old LTZ for anywhere near 15. Hell, I don't see any low-mileage 2008's for 15. I am sure the LS and LT1 will be lower as they made much more and many of the cheap cars you see for sale are fleet cars that are much less to begin with.
I bought mine as a "certified pre-owned" with 4000 miles on it. Car stickered for over 28K I paid 22K out the door. It is like any car where as soon as you drive it off the lot it will drop. The first year is always the worst. Also, if a dealer is selling a used car for 16, they paid alot more then 12. It isn't like it used to be as far as trade-ins/re-sales go. I traded in a '07 G6 GTP and it was on the lot two days later for only 1900 more then they gave me. Sometimes they get lucky, usually they just want the sale and some, even if small, profit.
RaineMan 08-09-2010, 01:38 PM Well, it depends on what part of the country you are in too.
I paid 16k for my 2009 LT2 V6 with 34000mi on it in March of 2010 (in NC). I had a dealer offer me 12k for it last month with ~38000mi on it (in UT), I laughed.
From the numbers I am seeing on dealer websites and on autotrader prices are ranging from 14-18 for most of the 08 and 09 models with under 50,000mi in this area. I see 1 LTZ stickered for 20. There are 0 V6 Malibus within 50 miles. Guess the 6 isn't popular out here at all... I wonder if that is hurting my resale.
From what I can tell most of the dealers in this area like to sticker high so they can come down a grand or so to look like the "good guys" and still make plenty of money. It was a different story back in NC... when I bought the car it had been on the lot for just over a month and the sales manager practically begged me to take it. They didn't want anything sitting on the lot for more than 30 days. Out here I drive by dealers that keep the same cars for 3-6 months. I guess they aren't interested in making a sale.

If anything the lack of V6's in your area should HELP your resale. Since if someone wants it, they have less to choose from. What they offered you was an insult and THOUSANDS below NADA trade-in value. I looked at a '09 G8 GT last month I was offered 18K for my car as is with 22K on the clock. NADA clean trade-in on my car with my options and mileage is $17,275. Retail, meaning what they can sell it at is $20,475. And those prices aren't including my wheels.
ELITESOUNDS 08-10-2010, 07:40 PM I got a 2010 LTZ 2.4 for 20,450 , it had 14k miles on it.
Paid $19,800 for my mocha/ebony '10 LTZ 4 cyl, everything except sunroof, DVD player & power package (that wasn't made part of the LTZ package until after my car was built). Managed to twist some arms for a fairly decent trade-in amount, too.
Had 21,600 miles on it when I bought it, and I personally had put over 18k of those miles on the car before purchase. At just over 22k, it still has zero problems. I've bought/ordered five new American & Japanese-made vehicles in the past; only my '80 Honda Civic GL1500 was as flawless as this car at this point.
It's a bit of a "cultural shock" driving the Z after 12 years in a F-150 Ext Cab as my primary vehicle, but it sure is nice not hanging around a gas pump all the time! :D

Yes. Print out the message thread, show it to your local dealer, and ask for the same deal. I was able to do that about 2 years ago on my 2009 LTZ. My NJ dealer matched a price in California. You'll need to qualify for the same rebates, of course.

A lot of it had to do with the fact that my brother works for the dealer.

Northern Bu 09-22-2010, 08:18 AM When I bought my car two weeks ago, they gave me a $1500 GM discontinued loyalty discount. I was told that sales people keep that to themselves to use as leverage for when you're haggling.

Trying to decided what to do.
I paid $23,049 for my '09 2LT with sunroof before any taxes or fees. 2 grand for a year newer and the LTZ options, plus it's the red jewel tintcoat I really, really want!
Don't mean to make it harder to decide, but that deal sounds pretty good to me compared to what I paid.
