: Time to Vote, (North) America!
Truitt 11-03-2008, 06:25 PM So, with the elections coming up, I wanted to get an idea of what the ideologies of the people on here are. This is in no way a place to debate politics (unless you guys want to ;) ) or to scream out who you would support / vote for. It is just a general poll and completely anonymous, unless you want to post your views.
Personally, I voted for the brother
TMoneyR523 11-04-2008, 12:51 PM I'm confused as to who you voted for.. you said you voted for the brother.. which (from what I've seen) is usually a black person.. so Barack Obama? But I know you're white.. so could you mean your white brother, John McCain? Or do you have a brother and you wrote his name in? LOL
Pizza Man 11-04-2008, 01:47 PM I'll bet it won't take long for this Thread to get closed. ;)
Truitt 11-04-2008, 02:01 PM Judging from the amount of activity it has gotten in the past day, I'd say it will take a while.
I voted for Mr. Obama, son!
TMoneyR523 11-04-2008, 02:16 PM GO JOHN McCAIN WOOOOOO
Truitt 11-04-2008, 02:27 PM And what makes you support John McCain? (And thus it begins)
malibudragon 11-04-2008, 02:38 PM I voted or Obama,
and
InB4DaLok
:D
Grapes 11-04-2008, 02:57 PM Just one thought....
Say McCain passed away shortly after taking office (heart attack etc.), Palin is now President....Best of Luck to the world.. lol
TMoneyR523 11-04-2008, 03:33 PM Did you not see McCain's parents? They are in their mid-90s and still going strong. People don't die for no reason in their early 70s anymore. He's been cleared by his doctor stop just using his age against him. Age = experience. Even ask Pizza Man. He's the smartest person on this forum. Palin did a smashing job running Alaska, and she can do well for the rest of the country as well.
TMoneyR523 11-04-2008, 03:35 PM And I'm not going to shout or argue all of my reasons for voting for McCain but overall I just agree with his various policies way more than Obama (Plus, I'm from a family making over $250,000/year... I don't want to be taxed by freakin' Obama.. us upper-class citizens worked hard for our cash monies LOL)
Truitt 11-04-2008, 04:02 PM Well, McCain is a good choice and Palin nearly made me want him to get into the White House.
I doubt he'll croak over, but I think if he makes it (very slim chance as it seems) I think he'll only hold on term and not serve a second. I have a feeling, though, that Palin may make a hint at he Presidential ticket for 2012. Depending on her rival, she may have my vote.
I see Obama's plan for taxing the "larger middle class" (180,000-560,000) more so than currently, keeping taxes where they are for the "upper class" (hint: quotations just to reinforce how shady these terms are), and lessen the strain on all those below as genius. From a family making 23,000 now, but once making 105,000, I can relate to how much the financial strain is on both groupings and the taxes on those with 105,000 or greater will not be as hurtful as those that could exist for the lower classes. I 100% agree with Obama on his tax plan.
I do not agree with his energy policy, and agree with McCain's. I am completely for nuclear power and expanding it in the states. His argument that it is safe and reliable technology is an understatement, we have been running ships, literally metal islands with gunpowder and explosives, with nuclear power for nearly forty years and have not had a single explosion or mishap.
I also like his choice of Joe Biden. Though I am actually against Biden politically, his senior position gives Obama credibility and the sort of "apprenticeship" that he would need to make everything work.
In short...I would have voted for McCain but one thing killed me: His freeze on government aid with exception to military personnel and veterans. What about the disabled? Those on Social Security? Those withdrawing unemployment because our current President allowed millions of good jobs to leave our country and a few terrible ones to come in? Personally, that is the last thing we need to do to the economy.
TMoneyR523 11-04-2008, 04:56 PM All that I know is that the big businesses/economy aren't going to like the Obama administration. There will be problems if he's elected.. problems everyone's going to feel unfortunately. I'm speaking right now as a big-business person.
FenwickHockey65 11-04-2008, 05:51 PM McCain all the way!
FenwickHockey65 11-04-2008, 09:17 PM *facepalm*
Truitt 11-04-2008, 09:22 PM Obviously that Mickey Mouse vote went back to Obama by the current results...
Big business is both our problem and solution to the economy problem. A mixture of outsourcing and lagging on American good jobs have caused a large unrest in our economy. Luckily, Biden is a big supporter on making it to where American businesses with foreign manufacturing plants will have their products labeled "Foreign" and be taxed accordingly. I like that. Definitely not American goods, since no Americans ever touched them.
jester 11-04-2008, 11:44 PM I can't honestly say I trust either of them and was hoping that maybe the more conservative players would win as I feel it's time for the USA to regroup. Anyhow, a change is needed and it's very hard for anyone to deal with - I know I wouldn't want that job no matter how much I love my country - Best wishes to all!
08LTZ 11-05-2008, 07:50 PM I voted for Mccain. This is why and it's just my opinion.
1)I don't like presidential candidates telling us what they are going to do for us when in reallity the president can do very little by himself to affect me directly. Mccain promised less but still way too much.
2) I view healthcare is my personal responabilty not the governments.
3) I don't know or care what the top 10% pay in taxes but judging from what I pay it's probably way too much.
4) George W's 'tax cut for the rich' took something like 12 million workers off the income tax rolls bringing the count to 40% of workers that don't pay income tax. Obama wants that to go to 49% and writes some of them checks from money he wants to take from other people.
5) Guns, I like guns.
However, the economy is in the tank and the Rebulicans were blamed for it and Obama won. That's the way it works has before and will again. I do wish Obama well. Congratulations on the victory and I hope the economy will get rolling again now that the campaign is over.
