: New grille installed!

Well I got the new grille today and it took about 3 hours to install with 2 people. The directions were only somewhat helpful, but enough to point us in the right direction. I recommend you have someone to help you if you plan on doing it, as some parts are just simply a pain in the ass. I don't have any pictures yet. It was too dark when i was done, and I want to wash it first. However, it looks sweet. I know you will be anxious to see it, but I plan on washing it Thursday and will hopefully get some pictures. The latest would be Friday. I have finals tomorrow and Thursday otherwise it would be sooner.
I was not able to take pictures of the install because I forgot to charge my camera.

So, if you plan on doing it, give yourself about 3 hours, extra hands are always helpful. You can't rely just on in the instructions, will take some thinking and observations. I will answer any questions that you have for me.

P.S. - You do have to jack the car up, so plan for that as well.

Is the chrome or stainless steel surround part of the mess grill insert?
How did the quality look?

It is stainless steel. Quality looked good to be. Everything was CNC machined.

This is the kit I got off of ebay

I got it for $175 with shipping.

That grill is sweet :D but that license bracket just doesn't do it for me, really distracts from the clean front end :(

The license plate bracket doesn't come with it. I told the dealer to keep mine off so there wouldn't be any holes. My state does not require the front license plate.

Here are some crappy pictures I took real quick with my iphone, and it was raining out, so the sun was not out to shine on it.

After I wash it, and it's sunny out, I'll get some real good pictures.

Nice job, looks like a fine upgrade for only $175. I think you'll see quite a few members follow your lead.

Now that's looking nice, without the factory license bracket it really cleans up the front end, when I order my Bu I will delete the bracket also :D

Yeah, just make sure it doesn't come with it installed, otherwise you'll have the holes there. Im not sure if they will come installed, but I'd make sure.

Thanks for the compliment. I'm willing to answer any questions as it is a lengthy process and some things are not mentioned in the instructions.

Just keep your installation notes handy. I'm sure someone will need them soon. :)

Pizza Man,
Can you make the notes a sticky in the General Discussion forum if they get posted?

JJones,
It's a nice, suttle upgrade that will POP when the sun and the car is shining!

Patrick, the first thing I'm gonna do is move this thread into the Mods Forum. Making it a sticky is not a problem, if there is as much demand for it as I think there will be.

Yesterday we had a small bird crack the middle grille insert. I asked my wife is she wanted it replaced with the OEM part or the E&G Classic. She wants the metal grilles.
Is Ebay the only place to order these? I could not find a supplier.

And send a message to that guy asking if he will sell it for $175 shipped to your zip code. Thats the same guy I got mine from, and I did the same thing and he agreed.

Looking at the instructions for the E&G Grille, they mention reinstalling the stock grille. I hope this is not the case and they meant to say reinstall the stock grille surround. I would think the stock grille will show behind the E&G grille.
I have an appointment to get our installed on Wednesday the 6 th.

Darn, I wish I had seen one in person before purchasing the E&G. The grilles I have seen in the past that overlay the stock grilles do not look good to me.
Like you mention the stock grille may be needed for support because the E&G is a little flimsy. Wish they had used heavier wire to make it stronger.

I had the grille installed yesterday morning. The stock grille stays in place and the E&G is installed over it. The shop knew I was concerned how it would look, but they liked it and went ahead with the install. I was working out of town and told them to make the call. It's not exactly what I had in mind, but my wife likes it, and it's her car, so that's the important thing.
I called the supplier and asked them to change their web site stating the E&G grille replaces the stock grille.
The supplier was http://www.wooddashexperts.com/customer/product.php?productid=56409&cat=8980&page=1

I don't even notice the stock grille behind mine unless I'm really close. Everyone I've showed never knew the stock one was there until I told them.

Mine may show more because the LTZ grille is silver.

Oh yeah, that is true.. You could always paint it though.

That looks pretty busy, Lee. Was it very expensive to have a body shop install it? I may consider redoing the install, having them paint the original grill a flat or matte black. Or, buy the black pieces from Chevy to put behind the E & G Grille.

The flat rate was two hours and my local shop charges $50 an hour.
I priced the center silver grille from the Chevrolet dealer and it was around $80 dollars. I do not know if the black is cheaper. A wild guess would be $120 for the top and center grille in black.

Sorry Lee, but I forgot to mention how much I do like the shinier look of the E&G gille. At only $100 bucks to install, I don't think it's something I'd do myself.

No problem, I think we have the same opinion. A little busy up close, but I like the shiny look from a distance.

Yeah, that is definitely too noticeable. I would either paint it or buy the black grille. It just doesn't look right.
