Don't assume. In some parts of the country the price of cars is very low compared to the median incomes and real estate, so some parents shower their kids with gifts that would seem awfully expensive to people like me. Or, you might be looking at a young entrepreneur who has earned more money at age 18 than I made in the last ten years.

When my son was 18 and graduating high school, I gave him a BMW. OK, it was an '88 with over 180,000 miles on it and not the prettiest thing, but still better than a clapped-out '72 F-150 that some kid in a Mississippi trailer park might have got. It's all relative. My son trashed the transmission in less than a year, and the next vehicle was his to buy. On the BMW site I frequent, there are kids that get gifted $30,000 cars. The parents don't think they're doing anything wrong because they're driving a $96,000 7 Series so the "kid's car" is just a little POS.

The irony is that inverse proportion thing. It seems the more value the gift has, the less appreciated it is. So often that kid in Mississippi loves and treats that old F-150 with far more respect for the vehicle and his parents than the kid with the new 3 Series.

Former Cars:
1993 Saturn SW2 (1993-2006, 243,000 miles)
1989 GMC Safari SLT (1989-2003, 293,000 miles)

FenwickHockey65

Haha I wish I was in my 30s.

They're all of our cars that I've actually remembered since I was born. My mom drove the Safari and my dad had the Saturn. We had a POS 1985 Chevette, but I don't remember much about it besides the fact that the interior smelled like the glue from the Delphi plant my dad worked at. We also had a 1980-something Mercedes Benz, but my mom wrecked it into a ditch on her way to work.

I don't know that any butt kicking went on but the Yankees did take the W and I'm still a Phillies Phan.

Thanks, and thank you for your past service as well. Don't you love Kuwait. I sweat I am still finding sand in the crap I brought over there last year. I found out today that my PS3 controllers that I had over there have sand inside of them so I gotta take them apart now.

What, you didn't buy the anti-sand insurance policy? Oh no!

I like the pic of you and yours out sharing a hobby together. Keep it up and you'll likely keep her in your life.
