All,

I purchased a 2009 Malibu Hybrid back in July of 2008. It's tax time and I don't see my car on the list of those eligible for a credit. I'm positive when I researched it before I sealed the deal, I saw that it was eligible for a $1,300 credit. Anybody know if something changed, or if I've been misguided from the start?

Thanks in advance.

The credits are going down every year..

According to various professional review and news organisations.. the 2009 Hybrid is still eligible for a $1,300 federal credit.

The problem is, the professional review and news organizations don't seem to square with this: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=185050,00.html

Is it possible GM has not reported information to the IRS regarding their '09 hybrids?

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only '09 Hybrid owner here. Come on guys, help me out!

Could it be because there were no changes from the 2008 year that it's still valid? I don't really know what to tell you.. I don't do hybrids LOL but maybe giving the IRS a quick call could answer your question?

I've gone ahead and looked up the number for you:

Good luck!

Ha the kinder, gentler, frendlier IRS is always there to help you out. It should count, but there could possibly be an issue with the fact that it's not a true hybrid. Though if the credit applied for 2008 models, I would assume it would for the 2009. If you recently purchased a 2009 hybrid you're in for quote the tax break. If you get the hybrid credit you'll get that, plus you can deduct the sales tax cost, and you'll get another credit with the stimulus package for buying a new car. That's a lot of dimp!

No, I don't have a hybrid. I was just putting in my 2 cents.

According to this site (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/Feg/tax_hybrid.shtml) the '08 hybrid is giving a $1300 credit and the '09 a $1550 credit.

Click on the GM tab, the Malibu's are the second and third displayed.

I would fill in form 8910 and put in $1550 for the credit per fueleconomy.gov. The worst they can do is reject it. Just don't go spending it on a big flat screen before you get it.

Good news! I found it on an IRS website.

http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corporations/article/0,,id=203909,00.html

Now I just need to get Turbotax to agree.

Thanks everyone, for your input.

Notice though that's under the business/corporations tab..

Don't want to get into trouble with that huh?

Here's a link (http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=157632,00.html) that also mentions the '08 Malibu, but the '09 appears to be ineligble.

Does anyone know how to determine when these run out?

Also would they apply for a used model (either 08 hybrid or 09 hybrid)?
