My temp gauge on my 97 Malibu climbs to just under the halfway mark then stays there no matter if the motor is cold or even if running a little hot. How can I test the gauge or calibrate?

Thanks.

How do you know it is running a little hot?

you can replace your coolant temp sensor. they go out from time to time

On hot days if I am idling in traffic the temp would usually climb to a notch just above the halfway mark. But now it just moves to under the halfway mark weather I've just started the car in the morning or if it's been running.

That is the normal operating temperature, mine does the same way and I've not had any trouble.

Are you complaining that your car is NOT overheating... Lol...

If it climbs and drops when you start the car in the morning... ie.. from it cooling overnight, and then moving up through driving... its fine... maybe your car is just running cooler lately.. more oxygen in the air, maybe a clog with the coolant lines got bumped free, whatever the reason... its nothing to worry over.
