Hello all,

A quick memorial day travel question for you tri-state area folks.

I'm headed up to Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville CT on Friday, May 23rd - smack dab in the memorial day rush. My wife can't leave work until 3:30 from Central New Jersey (Warren, NJ). Ofcourse I have the whole day off and would have LOVED to leave earlier in the day.

My question: Does anyone know the best way to get up there - aside from 95 or the Merrit Parkway - or the best route with the least amount of traffic - I'm having nightmares about the Chimpanzee, er um, Tapan-zee Bridge...

PS..ofcourse we're going to a Billy Joel concert scheduled to start at 8:00pm Friday night - do I have any chance of making this show leaving at 3:30 from Central NJ.

Your thoughts opinions much appreicated.

WOW! that goes right through the city, You'll probably get into alot of traffic.

One other way to maybe look into would be to get on 287 north up untill suffrin NY then get on the 87 north, then get onto 84 east right into CT through Danbury, then where 84 ends by Newtown, take route 34 down into new haven and get onto 95 and go right out to the casino. It might to be long of a trip though from where you are in Warren. Just a suggestion.

Sounds good to me, I'd rather waste gas going out of my way than to waste gas stuck in traffic. It's a lot less frustrating.

I've seen him 3 times and yes he does.
Thanks for the tips - I may try 84 - even if I can take that half way then cut down to 95 further east it may help...

That might be a good idea. Probably miss alot of traffic jams then.

Heading 84 East through Danbury on Friday can be bad. Anyway you go on a holiday weekend is going to suck.

I typically take the Tappan Zee to Hutchinson/Merrit Parkways, but you can only take it so far before I believe you have to get on I-95 to get to the casino.

Whatever you do, don't go over the GW bridge. I've tried it a couple times, even off peak, and it's a nightmare.

Hooray - my wife CAN take HALF a DAY - so we can leave earlier and beat some of the traffic!

Mapquest?

Try it out. That will give you an approx. time. I don't know the traffic, but since it will be around rush hour you may have a problem.

I'd have to agree with NJ MalibuMan. 84 may be out of the way, but I'd rather drive further, then sit in traffic.

I think the plan is to leave by 12 noon and we'll probably hit the Merritt and take that east until it runs back into 95 - taking 95 the rest of the way to the casino. Atleast I have 8 hours to play with! I may be sitting in traffic but in the Malibu, I don't care!

Just got back from the CT trip and I will tell you...

The Merritt Parkway is the only way to go. 95 has major construction both ways so we avoided most of 95 all the way past New Haven on the Merritt and it probably saved 1 to 1 1/2 hours off of my trip. Thank you all for the advice.

The Billy Joel Concert was awesome...unfortunately I forgot my camera, so no pix of the Bu in Mystic land...

Put over 450 miles on the car this weekend, and a side note filled up in New Jersey first (smart idea) because gas was $4.19 and up in CT - are you kidding me???
