This is my first quote they gave me online. How far you think I could get this down?
KURLY 05-18-2009, 10:04 AM It depends on what options you have. I bought my 2LT with the optional 3.6 V6, 18" rims, sun roof for $21000 from the dealer. Plus tax and license. I don't know if it was a great deal or not but listed for $27899.
manofice 05-19-2009, 07:28 AM It had the stanard 1LT features i guess, power everything, 6 speed auto, with a choice of manual with the flippers on the wheel, bluetooth, etc, just the basic 1LT stuff. How far you think I can go?
KURLY 05-19-2009, 02:42 PM Make them an offer you are comfy with and work from there. I called the dealer once with an offer and was told it was too low. The sales manager called back later and said if I would buy that day I could have it for $21000. which was $500 more than I offered. Yep,I went right over. Just offer a little less than your willing to pay and see what happens. GOOD LUCK

That doc fee is high and is pure profit for the dealer. There are dealers who don't charge a document fee at all and there others that charge half that amount. I would negotiate that fee to $200 or less, 0 if possible. $600 for 20 minutes work????

An LS for 22K??? Did you get any discount at all? I don't check the price recently, but I don't see why it can get that high! Seen that price a lot for LTZ or LT2 but not for LS or even LT1. Check fitzgerald auto mall. They have LT1 at 18.9K
manofice 05-20-2009, 10:31 PM Thx for the info! I will neg. More

Please go to edmunds.com and kbb.com and research that car.....you should be paying close to invoice for an LS MINUS the rebate - so the purchase price should be under invoice after the rebate of 2500.00
Ask the dealer to show you the invoice sheet - it should have all the prices on the sheet - GMS - Supplier - Invioce etc......
DO NOT pay anything more then 249 for doc fees........even that is high.

thx i'm going to keep on negotiating. I basically said I was gonna shop around more and they kinda got pissy and now said my deal was only good till tomorrow. I'm basically gonna tell them to shove off and wait for them to come crawling back to me.
Macleod52 05-21-2009, 11:23 PM Yep, let them crawl back to you. If they want the sale they'll budge. I told the dealer no way I'd take 10k for a trade in. 3 days later they offered 12.
Also, I only paid $99 for doc fees.
manofice 05-22-2009, 09:54 AM Their offering it 20,384 which is said to be 500 under employee price but the trade in only $6500. I went to another dealer yesterday and they only offered me 5500 for trade in so i think the 6500 is the best i'll get. Earlier they offered me 7500 for my trade but kept the price high because the value they said is 6500 max but willing to give me 7500 for trade in then kept the price at 22 though. So 20384 with 6500 trade in
how does that look? of course i'll get the doc fee down too
Selling Price - $20,334.08 ($500 below employee price)
Trade - $6500
Payoff - $7100
Cash Down - $1000
Tax - $421.02
Tag - $55
Doc - $500 i will neg this
Amt Financed - $21,222.10
Term - 72
Rate - 2.9
Payment - 319
The MSRP is the 22k price not the 21k price
edmunds lists invoice as $20,417
So i'll get it for 100 under invoice or even more because edmunds lists the MSRP as 21k not 22k which is for this car
Edit: Ok he dropped it to 20k even because I bitched about the doc fee so i got the doc fee down to 166 :)
this doesn't seem so bad now, adjust the car price to 20k even
86lxjunker 05-22-2009, 06:47 PM Sounds like you have a little negative equity in your trade that is not helping you....but you need to remember to calculate what invoice is BEFORE you factor in the 2500 rebate.
From what you are showing the 100 bucks below invoice is AFTER the 2500 rebate...that is NOT a good deal.
Calculate Invoice on your car - then minus 2500 rebate.....this is where you should start....even lower sometimes.
There is not a lot of mark up on a new Malibu - there is 3% dealer hold back on the Retail price....so if the Retail is 22k then the dealer only has 660 in holdback.
I am not one to try to make the dealer lose money on the a sale - but you need to feel comfortable on your purchase price. Only the well informed shopper will be able to handle the stress/pressure of buying a new car...
Give us the options on the car you are looking for or tell me what dealer and description of your car and I will do a little research for you if you would like ?

i'm getting the special 2.9 interest rate so i don't have the 2500 rebates. So that price is the good price ;) I actually got him down to like 19850. Hell the GMS price is 20800 which is well below the invoice and i'm getting it even lower! :) def got a good deal after neg. with these guys, going to pick it up today i think
The dealer walked me back to his computer and I saw the hold back was 660 and total in the whole thing with my trade in, he's make 330 bucks, thats now with only 500 down, my other numbers crunched with 1k down but I changed it up and made it 500 down and said I couldn't do the other 500, seeing if he would himself down it 500, dropping it 500 would put him in the hole on the deal, i saw the numbers on his pc, but he did knock it down to 19850 so he did take a 150 off, i don't know where i would get anymore room, pretty much of a steal on this car
meyer2ml 05-23-2009, 01:56 PM On March 2nd of this year (2009) I got my 2009 1LT for $20468.30 tax, title, plates, doc fee (??), and "other fees"
