Hi, I have recently replaced the key lock cylinder on my 2004 chevy malibu classic, and did the vats bypass (leave ignition in "on" position for 10 min, turn key to off, then start car). The car seams to have learned the new cylinder system and runs fine, but I've read this is a temp fix. It still continues to start every time I try. Anybody know any specifics on this?

Where was it that you read it was only temporary? You've replaced the ignition cylinder cause it and the ignition key were worn? This is a common issue as the ignition key becomes worn.

I read that here: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/1bwmg-2004-chevrolet-malibu-anti-theft. They may have been referring to that persons issue because their passlock started acting up out of nowhere. And yes, I replaced the cylinder because it locked up. Both sets of keys would not budge the cylinder in the least. Also, to anyone who has this problem, a temp fix (after you have tried moving the steering wheel if it is locked, pressing the break and moving the gear shift, pressing on and wiggling the keys...) is to place your keys in the ignition and tap the back of your keys with a screwdriver handle about 10 or so times. Don't try to hammer the keys into the ignition, just enough to let the reverbaration allow the pins to fall into a better place around your key. I saw that on youtube and it worked for me.
