: Dealer Badges
jessep28 06-12-2009, 11:16 AM I'm looking to remove the dealer badge sticker on the back of my vehicle since they aren't paying me to have it there.
Getting the dealer badge off isn't the hard part (hair dryer or hot, sunny day), but taking care of any residue. What would you recommend I use for that?
Thank you,
Jesse
KURLY 06-12-2009, 12:09 PM I've used WD-40 but I know this was brought up before on this forum. Just hang loose and others will tell what they've used or what is the best. Make sure what ever you use to wax it after your done.
Macleod52 06-12-2009, 12:44 PM I've always used Goo Gone. Once I've removed the badge, I wash and then wax (claybar first if you want) the area.

WD-40 worked the best when I debaged my LTZ :D
09Maliblu 07-16-2009, 06:03 PM I was just having this thought today about getting that damn dealer badge off my car. I was thinking of using Goo Gone but I have WD40 on hand too.
How hard was it for you guys to get your badges off? Did they just rub off? I don't want to damage the paint or anything. I was thinking about using a clay bar on my car anyway, so when I plan on doing that, I'll just try to get the badge off as well.
GTPMALIBU 07-16-2009, 11:28 PM any breakleen works great DONT CONFUSE WITH BREAK FLUID
Sly Bob 07-17-2009, 05:24 AM or BRAKE fluid...
GTPMALIBU 07-17-2009, 06:40 AM yeah but then say byebye to your clear coat and paint......
slhaas 07-17-2009, 01:37 PM I was going to heat it up with a hair dryer, but before I got the chance I too my fingernail to the edge of the dealership sticker on a really cold winter day and it came off really easy with no residue left behind. It flaked off really. I later used a rubbing compound and then wax on the trunk to make the whole area match & blend together.
86lxjunker 07-17-2009, 07:07 PM I took mine off as soon as I pulled it in the driveway the first day - a little WD40 on a clean rag removed any residue.
I hate those stickers - when we bought my wifes Pilot - I actually tooks hers off right in the dealers lot before we drove away - I wanted them to watch me do it because I told them I did not want any stickers on the car when we picked it up.:D
KenM10759 07-18-2009, 05:48 AM When I picked up my car the dealer was putting the registration plate on the car with one of their plastic advertising frames. I told him "That's going in the trash as soon as I get home you know."
He stopped, took out the two screws he'd already put in and removed the frame. "Thanks for telling me", he said, "you just saved me a buck and a half." I told him I could have saved him another dime with the sticker that I'm going to remove. And I peeled that off right in front of him and put it in his hand.

lmaoo thats classiccccc man, i hate those dealer badges, it takes away from the back end way. I removed mine too. I used WD-40 but for some reason couldn't get all the residue off. A friend of mine used GOO GONE and it took care of the rest of the residue really fast
chadlong7487 07-19-2009, 11:27 PM I hate them too but I work at a car dealership and they like us to have them on the car... But all other emblems are off
ackoolness 07-31-2009, 12:16 PM I took mine off yesterday. I didnt have fishing wire or wd-40 and could not find my goo gone for the life of me.
so heres what I did and for free with stuff I already had...
things you need if youre not a fisherman with goo gone readily available:
Tooth Floss
All Purpose Cleaner
1. Get the floss and wrap it around your fingers and get it between the letters.
2. Saw at the letters with the floss until they come off.
At this point you still have some glue/residue left over.
3. Manually pull off the glue/residue with fingers as it should come off quickly, if it is a hot day or you are using a hair dryer.
4. After you have taken most of it off, use the all purpose cleaner to remove the excess glue that is left over.
5. enjoy and take a pic before and after ;)
The all purpose cleaner I used was called "AWESOME" and states that its safe to use on cars (rims, exterior, and interior) and contains no acid or other element that sounds like a far away planet...so I figured it was safe.
as soon as I wiped it away, I grabbed another wet rag (water) and just made sure it was all wiped clean.
I live in L.A. so it is definitely hot enough to do it without a hair dryer but I suspect a hair dryer would work best as it will heat it up better.
AdamJH225 09-18-2009, 09:24 AM When I bought my Malibu, I told the dealer when we shook hands: "No decals, no stickers, nothing on the paint. Nothing on the windows. No advertising of any kind unless you're paying for the car. A license plate frame is fine, but I'm taking it off the minute I get home."
I know most people don't care enough about their cars to care what stickers are on there, but some dealers put decals the entire width of the back windshield. Who wants to drive around with "EVERGREEN KIA" stuck to their back windscreen?
Back to the topic at hand... I want to remove the "Maxx" badge from the back of my 06 Maxx SS. I think it'll look cleaner without it... thanks for the idea about fishing line or dental floss. I'll have to give that a try.
nuclearxp 10-22-2009, 07:40 AM I'd like to add a pre-step to ackoolness's excellent write up. This is a little trick I learned from window tinters: Spray the back (sticky) side down with WD-40 and then lay a piece of plastic wrap over the badge and press it down around it (locking the WD-40 in). Leave it like that for ~10 minutes then proceed with ackoolness's procedure. I've found this helps release the badge easier.
Also I second a few others follow-up steps: a clay bar will really help getting the last little bits of glue and residue off, then follow up by normal cleaning and waxing.
Malibu Glow 10-24-2009, 03:30 PM Better to use rubbing alcohol to remove any residue then you can just apply some wax over the area. Most of the vinyl decals used come off pretty easy and leave little residue, but if it's been on the car for some time heat can be used to help in removing them.
BuVille09 10-24-2009, 07:47 PM Pealed my dealers name off with my fingernail as soon as I got home. It was just letters so it came off real easy. To hell with FREE advertisement
KenM10759 10-25-2009, 08:15 AM Glad I did what I did with the dealer crap on the day I picked it up, because when I went into their service area to get the required state inspection sticker I noticed things looked bleak. Poorly lit, just a half-dozen techs sitting around on break, bare concrete floor....
Sure enough, they're already gone as a Chevy dealer though they'd been in it for over 40 years. No way would I ever drive around advertising for a dealer. The Chevy dealer closest to me had gone under over a year ago, and I still see idiots running around with the windshield banners for the dealer. When they bought the cars they were told they'd have free oil changes for having the banner. Guess that didn't keep the dealer in business.

Good one! I got even luckier: When I was shopping for my Bu, I ended up at a dealer right by my house that had JUST gotten the car I chose off the truck the night before. Still had all of the shipping stuff all over inside and out. 1 mile on the ODO. It was raining and cold. I test drove the car, told them I'd take it but I want it RIGHT NOW. The sales and mainentance guys did great job cleaning and checking the car while I did the paperwork. I left them no time to install any dealer stickers or license plate frame :D
Ulz608 12-21-2009, 02:02 PM I used a soft cotton cloth and a little splash of Mineral Spirits on the rag. Cleaned up the glue with ease.
