Was wondering if its possible to fix (mostly light) scratches on aluminum rims that come standard on the 2009 2LT V6 18" wheels? It feels like they are clear coated and its just the clear coat paint thats scratched.

My thoughts are that I could wet sand the scratches with fine automotive sandpaper then use buffing compound but I don't want to make things worse.
