Hello everyone,
My wife and I have a 2008 malibu 2lt 2.4l, it is a year old has 33K miles never had a problem with it. but it seems that the average MPG has dropped from a solid 30-32 MPG to about 24-26 MPG Highway. My wife is the usual driver and she says it seems to have lost a little power, I have not been able to tell but, I only drive the car once every other month or so. Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening?

Thanks

Did you check the Air Filter? Tire Pressure?

My 08 LT1 2.4 gets about 25 to 27 MPG in Mixed driving. Has since day one.
The other thing could be, The Gas. Its Summer Blend.

It's really hard saying, but the list of common fuel killers is air filter, fuel filter, A/C, stop and go traffic, high heat, fuel injectors, spark plugs, sensors, and I'm sure there's a few more. Is she going the same route she's been going when she gets the 30-32mpg?

I have a brand new 09 2.4 6spd with 5,000 miles on it and it only gets 25-26 on the highway. I'm pretty disappointed with the gas mileage and the dealer said there is nothing I can do about it. My V6 Honda Accord that I turned in before I bought the Malibu got better mileage and was twice as fast. Let me know if anyone finds out anything.

Check air filter and run a gas additive to clean out the system if not already doing so. Tire pressure can also be a factor.

Thanks for all of the replys.
Sorry for my late reply I have been out of town for a few days.

She is driving the same route, the tire pressures are fine (but we do have a slow leak in one tire, but we stay on top of it) I will check the air filter but the dealer did not mention anything at the last oil change two weeks ago.
I don't think we have summer blend in central Texas, so that can not be it.
I am going to take it in to get it checked out see if any sensors are bad. we will see.
Again thanks for the replies.

I recently saw a drop in mpg also. I think it might be summer gas (NC). However, just got back from family vacation - averaged 32 mpg going 80mph with A/C on, four people in car and a very full trunk. Not bad!!!
