Just wondering if this happened to anyone else before I go see the dealer... :(
Temps were nice today, so I rolled the windows down. I thought I heard a little squeal from the back right window. Later rolled the windows down again, but the back right window stops about 6" from the bottom... Rolls back up fine... also appears there's some grease on the glass, so...

Yes...safety feature. My '07 Malibu's rear windows don't go all the way down either.

I'm 99.9% sure the left one goes all the way down... :(

Mine go down all the way in all 4 windows. I'd take it in and have it fixed.
Unless you have an older model of the Malibu... I know some car/truck/SUV doors aren't shaped for the window to go completely down so they put a stopper in the door.

I've been wondering about this too actually. On my 03 Malibu LS, the rear windows stop 4-ish inches from being all the way down. What I'm wondering is if they're like the Cavaliers/Sunfires in which you can pull the door skin and remove the foam stop block so that they can move all the way down...?

They stop because the door isn't shaped straight enough to let it down all the way. Imagine your window going down into the door...Where the door starts to curve, that's where the window stop is.

In that case, take it to the dealer. Sounds like there's a problem with the motor.

You're 100% sure? I thought the first year Malibus [1995?] went all the way down. Oh well, I was hoping for an easy fix for it ;)
Random 4am thought...
Cars have been around since the late 1800s, so why all of a sudden do our cars' back windows have to stop 2/3 of the way down? Here's my guess... "Safety windows" are easier than Parenting.

Do you have kids? If so you would know that some 2 year olds know how to get out of their straps and seats in just a few seconds. Getting a toddler to listen to the parent is very difficult sometimes.

Well, I took it in this morning. They said a piece of insulation fell in the way. I felt kinda dumb having them fix it, but I didn't want to get in there and find something broke, then try to tell them I didn't do it...
They found a recall on the shift indicator, and are ordering a part for it. I also need to have them check it out again. I forgot to tell them I get the CHECK GAS CAP message the morning after each refill... :( Hope this isn't the way it's going to be with this car.
