see if they look the same and go from there...i have a blazer radio in my cavy...but only cause it was free.

also you will probably have to take it to the dealer to get the theft relearn on the radio

Think this might cover your situation....and even with the scan tool....read: dealer....you still might be out of luck.

Regarding 2004 radios, the Theftlock theft deterrent system is a feature on all base and uplevel radios. There is no need to program a security code into the radio as in past model years. The theft deterrent system now utilizes class 2 serial data to determine if the radio is in the appropriate vehicle. Each time the radio receives the "run" power mode message, it compares the VIN information it has stored to the VIN information received from a module on the class 2 serial data circuit responsible for transmitting that information. If a mis-match occurs, the radio display will indicate to the user the radio is locked. Once this takes place, a DTC will set, the radio will not respond to any button presses and become inoperative. The 2 scenarios able to cause this condition are:
A radio is installed from another vehicle.
A module which communicates on the class 2 serial data circuit which supplies VIN information to the radio is replaced and not properly setup with the correct VIN information for that vehicle.

The only way to unlock the radio is by using a scan tool.

Looks like it is impossible I've compared pictures (found on ebay) of radios: Malibu 05 and Malibu 08 , Enquinox 07 have different connectors at the back. I guess they are not compatible. Size wise they are apparently similar (mounts are similar)

I will continue my research, but with less energy :)

Yeah why not. I think you can easily upgrade.take it to the dealor, he will do that.

It's not possible to swap in a radio from a newer car, the wiring and connectors are different. Just take a look at aftermarket stereo system adapters to see the differences between the years on GM cars and trucks and you'l find GM didn't stay with the same style of connection on the radios.

Ive got an 05 malibu (new body) and i am replacing the stereo with another 05 stereo, this will require me to take it to the dealer to change the vin, correct?

Not sure but it might have to deal with the theft system that would probably need to be re-programmed with the new radio.

I was wondering the SAME thing. I'd like to know if any other these will fit in my 2005 new style Malibu LS with no ONStar or XW or CD changer...
I would love to have this one http://www.mnrelectronics.com/20poamcdwiau.html But any of these would do as well, if they'd fit and WORK PROPERLY...

I've got a 2005 Malibu and was wondering if I install a aftermarket system with a Aux port (Ipod), will I lose my D.I.N ?

It looks like its all one unit

The lack of response to your query is probably due to "D.I.N" whatever that is. I think you meant DIC in which case they sell adapter gadgets that take up a single DIN height and has the DIC buttons and display. You can then install a single DIN aftermarket unit.

Sorry I meant DIC. Do you have a link to this adapter ? who makes it and what's it called ?

You're quite welcome.:) And, thanks for not overreacting (those are rather expensive for what little function they provide but I'm just a messenger).

In short answer form, the G6 radio MIGHT work, the others won't due to no DIC in them. The G6 unit and any Factory replacement new, refurbished or salvage yard find WILL need to be taken to the dealership and have the radio reprogrammed for the car. Aftermarket units will not need programming. The lack of the DIC in the radio will require a unit like the Metra 99-3303 or your car will set the check engine light.
