With my aversion to gold watches, gold chains - it transferred to the cars too. Now completed covering all the gold bowties....

I did this the first week I got the car

Just finished these two with a purchase from eBay. A bit dirty. Didn't get a chance to wash it...

So how is this mod done? Is there a special type of material? Where do you get it? How long does it take? If anyone can provide a how-to that would be awesome.

Thanks.

I second this request....AMGE63 - How about a How-To Write Up? Any tips or tricks? Anything you would do differently if you did it again?

Thanks.

I like the gold inserts. Probably because it goes well with the gold metal flake in the red jewel.

So what was used did you have to buy new emblems or did you just cover over them with vinyl?

I am sending him measurments and pictures tonight for the 'bu! I'll let you know how it goes and update you after I get everything over to him. I love the look!!

No particular tips or tricks. If you know how to put on a band-aid, you can do this. I had to trim the Trailblazer stickers manually, each one. So they are not exactly perfect. So when this eBay seller finally gets it right, I might re-do them again. Although they look pretty good if don't get down close to look at it. When you guys get this vinyl stuff from that seller, it will be pretty easy to do and you can have it matching colors like I did.

The total was less than $10.00 total off eBay. Which is a lot if you consider they're just die-cut vinyl sticker. But small price to pay for me to not see the gold...

You might want to blur out your license plate in the photos on the first page.

sorry to be so late on the matter, but is there any lead on getting these pre-made?

I Just Returned From Having A Local Sign/graphics Company Make And Install Vinyl Bowties On My 08 Malibu. It Looks Great!!! They Only Charged Me Labor ($35)since The Materials Were A Minor Part Of The Cost. The Installer Has An 08 Hhr Which Has The Same Size Bowtie On The Wheels And He Made A Set And Installed Those. The Front And Rear Bowties Were Done By Cutting A Rectangular Strip That Covered The Gold And Then Simply Trimmed It. I Felt Better About Him Doing It Then Me In Case Of Errors On My Part.

:)

I TRIED TO POST PICS ON THIS SITE BUT AS A NEWBIE I HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO THAT YET. (CAN SOMEONE SEND ME AN EMAIL TO INSTRUCT?) ANYWAY, I HAVE POSTED SOME PICS ON THE WEBSHOTS SITE THAT IS LISTED BELOW. I PLAN TO TAKE MY 2006 HHR LT TO HAVE THE GOLD BOWTIES EITHER BLACKED OUT OR A DARKER COLOR OF THE BODY AND THE WHEELS BOWTIES AS WELL.

The bowties look great on the LTZ. I wonder what they would look like in a silver color?

I had my silver HHR done but thought it blended in too well by matching the paint on the car so I had a darker gray put on instead. I'll get some pics of it when the sun comes up and post them on my webshots site. I think it is much better that way then blending but it may be dif. on a Malibu. Depends on if you are trying to hide the bowtie somewhat like I did on my black one.

I have posted some pictures of my HHR with a contrasting dark grey color on the bowties at the following website:

http://community.webshots.com/album/565674640NLRZox

This may help you in deciding whether to match the paint or put a contrasting color vs the gold.

Thanks ARIZONA VIC! The dark grey color blends in good with the silver. I'm going to have to consider doing my bowties in that color for my Malibu.

Hey everyone... I have tried several times contacting the original guy about these since I sent him measurements. Since then I have had no luck, I know that he recently had a baby, so maybe he will be out for a while. Wish I had more info.

The fellow who did my bowties only had the wheel emblems precut but when it came to the front and rear bowties, he stretched the vinyl over the gold portion and used a trimming knife to trim it to fit. Too many bends and corners to have a precut one, at least that is what he said. He actually only charged me the labor cost since the vinyl used was not significant. Total cost per car $35.00

I'm pretty sure given the measurements I could make a pre-cut one for it, just would have to play around a bit to do so.. I like my gold on my red jewel though so I wouldnt have much use for them.. hehe

I don't have any pix, but I covered mine with white vinyl. From a distance it looks GREAT! (I too HATE the gold with a passion on most colors, but that's just my opinion.), but up close I'm not real happy with it. I'm going to peal it off, and paint in time. I pulled the gold centers out of my Avalanche and painted them, then taped them back on. The chrome on the Avalanche bowties (under the gold) wasn't smooth and didn't look good...

I have also decided to pull off the LT and MALIBU. I'm going to go back with some early metal script Malibu emblems... Since I'm running around with black steelies though I'm almost tempted to go with Chevelle emblems... as a buddy mentioned though, half the people out there probably wouldn't get it...

LOL. Chevelle. Nice. I think I'm gonna start a thread on what I've done to my 08 LT2. Keep in touch man, you sound eccentric like me. I hate gold.
