I know this is a Malibu forum, however there are some pretty informed people here so I thought I would ask. I'm interested if GM has any plans for the Impala? If they do I haven't been able to find much info about it. I find it interesting that the Impala still out sells the Malibu by a small amount each month with very little advertising on GM's part. I was originally considering an Impala but as soon as I saw the Malibu I forgot about the Impala. I note that there appears to be no mention of the Impala in any of the new GM ads. Other then Nascar running Impala's every week you simply don't hear much about the car. Does anyone know if/when GM plans to do an update? Seems like they still need a full sized sedan in their lineup; can't image that they would just drop it and let the Malibu be Chevs midsize/fullsize offering. Thanks.

According to Motor Trend's newest magazine, a new Impala will becoming, but won't be until around 2013... But anyways, with the current generation, GM unfortunately dropped the SS model, which IMO it was a great car. They handle very smooth and have great pick up. I say go on to Chevy's website and look it up for yourself. Here's the link that goes directly to the Impala page.

Thanks for the info. Redesign by 2013,, seems like the current Impala has been around for a long time already. I suppose with GM's money problems updating any car will take longer. I guess we are lucky they got the Malibu out before this all happened.

The current Impala generation started with the 2006 model year. The older style was from 2000-05. I think they've always outsold the Malibu.
