: Remote Start 2009 Ls Help!!!
cmarranca 10-29-2009, 01:17 PM i have read on here numerous times that i can buy a remote transmitter online, and bring it to the dealer and have the car flahsed with a Tech 2 tool. after calling the dealers i was told by Glen Campbell Chevrolet that they could do it and bring it in. i did so and then they told me i needed to buy the kit from them because it includes "codes" to unlock the feature, not just the 2 remotes.
this has not been mentioned before, am i being given the run around?
i hope someone can help!

THANK YOU!
ChevyMgr 10-31-2009, 08:12 AM This depends on what remote you are buying and what options your vehicle has. If you give me the last eight of your VIN number I can see if you have the needed options and I can tell you if what they state is true.
cmarranca 11-01-2009, 01:20 PM hey thanks for your responce,

More than likely they are telling you that your car is not set up without this module unit and the remotes. I'm sure they ran the Vin number to find out if your car had the capability in the first place, they just don't go blindly into installing stuff.
cmarranca 11-02-2009, 09:43 AM honestly i had to explain the car came pre-installed with it. this coincided with what my window stick said "remote start ready"
the dealers i talked to told me i was mistaked, and i politley asked them to talk to the parts peopel, after which they apologized and said i only need the remote.
so they talked without looking first.

Your vehicle has the correct options so all you will need to do is get the remote programmed and you will be good to go. Only vehicles that don't have remote start from the factory need a code to unlock it.
cmarranca 11-05-2009, 06:04 AM so if i bring in the car and ask for the remote to just be programmed to the car, the button to start it will work? no need to have the car reflashed?
this would be the best thing i hav heard all week, thank you so much!

If you mean remote start it, then no it's not what you are equipped with. Your option is for remote entry.
You would have to buy an upgrade for remote start, and it can be added. Part number 17800737. Sorry but my mistake. Your thread title said remote start but you first post didn't mention that and I was thinking you were trying for key fobs only.
moorhoub 11-11-2009, 04:09 PM sorry to comment on this, but i am experiencing a similar issue, but with my pontiac g6. I was told that when got the car, it had option AP8, and all i needed to get was the remotes to have the remote start enabled. So i ordered the remotes from Ebay, and took to a dealer to have programed, and the car enabled for remote start. THe dealer said that i needed to order the remotes from GM as it comes with a code that is needed to have the car programmed, so they could not do it. I took the car to another dealer, and at first they said they could do it, but when they actually looked at the car they said that car is wired for the remote start, but i need to order the kit from gm, but did not mention anything about a code. also, both dealers gave 2 different prices to have this done ($200 and $320)
So not sure if i am out the $$ i spent on the remotes, or if it can work. Again, sorry to interrupt the original posters question, and sorry posting this on a chev forum.
the last 8 of my vin are 84294460
Thanks again, and i hope my post might help others.
