: 15K service items on '08 LTZ?
sk_malibu 11-19-2009, 06:10 PM Hi,
My 2008 Malibu LTZ V6 is coming up on 15K miles.
Did our cars come with a book with recommended services? I never saw it.
Also, what work are you doing on it or having done on it?
1. Oil change
2. Air filter?
3. Fuel filter?
4. Is there a cabin air filter or PCV valve?
Thanks,
sk_malibu
green03malibu 11-19-2009, 09:21 PM Well my friend, a car with 15,xxx miles doesn't need too much work. I see in your signature that your using synthetic oil, which is really good. That really gets changed around 5-6k miles (which you probably already know). Paper air filters should get changed around 12,xxx miles or if they look completely dirty. The fuel filter, you don't need to worry about because those should get changed around every 30,xxx miles. I'm not sure about the cabin air filter because the 97-03 generation never had them. I would also check the Throttle body and make sure its clean. Also check the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, but you have to be very careful with them and they require their own cleaning spray which can be bought at a auto parts store. Another quick tip is that tires should get rotated every 6,xxx miles, which can help increase fuel economy and engine performance (I'm still puzzled on that one). I hope this helps and I hope I didn't come off as a know it all! :D

I agree with everything but underlined. Use the OLM. It works great and really adjusts how often you need to change the oil as not all miles are created equally. Dont waste the oil. Our Malibu saw a July 09 that was almost 5k miles in total. However, 99% of that was all highway. Should I of changed the oil then? Hell no. Complete waste. Now, if those 5-6k miles was all city and stop and go then yes, the oil probably would need to be changed.
green03malibu 11-20-2009, 08:42 AM How often do you changer your oil then? The 97-03 generation never had a oil life monitor if thats what your referring to with OLM.
bballr4567 11-20-2009, 09:08 AM Our last OCI was almost 10k miles. Took the OLM down to 8% and got it done because we are going on another trip this weekend. First oil change was done at 750 miles, then approx 10k and another at 19k. We have had the car since Jan 09 BTW.
green03malibu 11-20-2009, 02:38 PM Can you program it to read full synthetic or does it automatically know its not conventional?
bballr4567 11-20-2009, 02:55 PM No, you cant reprogram it but this is an experiment for the car. I know what MPG it gets with dino so Im trying full syn to see if it gets better.
ESCAPEMAX 11-20-2009, 04:37 PM Fuel Filter is inside the tank on the 08 and newer. According to Purolator there is no PCV or Breather. Checked with my dealer a couple of months back, There is no Cabin Filter listed. Unless someone can figure out how to (And if theres enough room) under the cowl.

I have the same car with 54,000 miles I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles using Mobile 1 and change the air filter every 15K. Car is running perfect.
At 50,000 I had to buy new tires and I had the transmission flushed at the dealership and that cost about $840.00 but is was expected.
bballr4567 11-22-2009, 01:14 PM Did you buy the tires at the dealership? How much was the flush on the trans?

I bought a set of Goodyear LS2s 18" at the dealership. I got them for $110.00 a piece which was about $25 less then Discount Tire and the dealer had the tires available. The flush was about $100.

false on the PCV. I have had mine replaced 3 times already. I can scan in the documents if you want them.

Why have you replaced your pcv three times?
ESCAPEMAX 11-26-2009, 04:24 AM My 01 Escape had an Oil/Air Seperator. Which actually had a PCV inside.
Silver LTZ 11-26-2009, 09:10 AM Why have you replaced your pcv three times?Yeah, that makes no sense. They go over 50K easily....

Was there any follow up on the PCV valve story?
Starship 01-19-2011, 10:15 AM This was before my time but which component of the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system are we talking about?
