: 30K Mile Service? Getting some different recommendations. What all is needed?

I've gotten some different answers from different Mechs.

The Chevy Dealer has this package for $5xx.00 that does Tranny Fluid, Tire Rotate, Fuel Clean, don't think it includes Air Filter, Coolant (?), etc.

What do I really need for this Mileage, the car is ALL highway driven, and I put on about 12K Miles every 6 months or so. I highly doubt it needs coolant done, and I dunno about the Fuel Filer or Injector Cleaning (?), also, does it really need Tranny Fluid so soon?

Thanks.

Do what it says in the manual. You have to do that to maintain your warranty. Anything more is a cash grab.

For instance, a dealer in my area says that you have to get your air ducts deodorized every 6 months. Won't go back THERE again.

At 30K highway miles you don't need to do the coolant change, no way. What is "fuel clean"? If that is injectors, that usually is bogus, toss two bottles of Techtron in the tank and you will set. A fuel filter can't hurt, and is cheap. But again, at 30k you shouldn't need it. Change the oil, oil filter, air filter, rotate the tires and toss in the Techtron and you should be good.

Awesome, thanks man. Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Yeah, I think it's injector cleaning, and I'm going with Techron Bottles for sure. He also said it includes a Fuel Filter, but I don't think that seems necessary.

I thought the same about the Coolant. Oddily enough he said they checked out the Air Filter and said it looked fine . I hope he's not BS'ing, as in they didn't even check it at all, or hopefully it's been changed before I bought the car (bought at 21K Miles, now at 32-ishK Miles).

The thing that's weird to me is, I've never heard of a Tranny Fluid needing changing so soon, he said the "viscosity" is low, or wearing thin, or whatever. When I said I was under the assumption that it should be more like around 50K Miles, he said "in California, with extreme climate change Temps, we/they recommend changing at 30K Miles".... I dunno about that.

I just don't want my Warranty void in case anything ever happens.

The filters in these cars are made from like a cotton, MUCH better then the old ones your thinking of. It might be "okay" but they are cheap, so I'd change it. Toss a K&N in there for $50. I too have never heard of a 30K tranny fluid change, but most of my cars have been manuals. Even so, they can't "void" anything if you don't perform the tranny service, you could even say it was done at a private shop or what not. $500 seems like a rip-off for what they are offering IMO.

Yeah, thanks. $500+ is ridiculous for what they're offering.

My recommendations would be do a tranny/coolant change every 5 years or 50,000 miles. I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure the fuel filter on these cars are in the gas tank, which never requires service. Replace the air filter per the manual. If you use a top tier gas (BP, Shell, Mobil, etc.) you shouldn't need to clean your injectors. If you feel the need to, just poor 3/4 a bottle of seafoam in your gas tank and call it a day. Rotate the tires yourself and maintain a proper rotation schedule.

Agree with Silver, this is all I would do ;)

So... the 30k mile service should cost about $39.95... (oil change, tire rotation, and routine inspection.)

About 20 bones if you do it yourself ;)

Even better then, no service needed.

Perfect. Wow, glad I checked in! They did clean my Throttle Body for free.

Fuel filters on 06+ GM vehicles (gas) are integrated into the fuel tank and are not serviceable. Your coolant is good for 5 years or 150K. Your tranny fluid is good for 50K (severe service). You need NOTHING at 30k except an oil change if you are on that schedule, or whenever your OLM indicates.
