: Wow, Buick Regal GS "concept"!
Silver LTZ 01-07-2010, 07:47 PM Newer stories say this is a 90% go for 2011. If so, the Malibu will get traded in and this will be my new daily driver in a year.
Some quick specs:
Direct injected, intercooled, turbocharged 2.0 I4 with 255 hp and 295 tq.
6-speed manual, AWD, Brembo brakes, 20" wheels.
Recaro seats, suede steering wheel, etc....

elcompaLalo 01-07-2010, 09:30 PM I would love to have one of those in my driveway!
green03malibu 01-07-2010, 10:15 PM This sounds like a neat car!
If they can get 295 pounds-feet of torque out of a 4, I'd be interested, and so would my wife. Too early to trade the Malibu, but something to look at down the road.
DrivenDaily 01-08-2010, 04:22 AM That's a lot of power from a little package. Torque is most useful at lower RPMs - where do most of them come in? With that much power from something so small, what's its life expectancy? Seems like a lot of stress to coax over 2HP out of every cubic inch. (2.0 = approx 122 CID, right?) That's more like a race engine. Blows away a lot of the competition, but how much "competition" is there on the open roadway for which this is "needed"? I'm a big fan of lotsa power, but when I'm footing the bill I want something that'll last.
I'll wait and see what actually hits the street, then let a couple model years go by to work out the bugs before consider I getting one.
This 'Bu may be my first ever new car, but there was a reason for that. I learned a lot from my friends who bought new all the time. One was, I had no car payments. Two was, I paid less for the same amount of vehicle. Three was, I paid less for insurance. Four was, I gave up having a new car and took on someone else's abuses but I usually got a decent car to drive and modify.
But it sure is tempting hear those numbers, eh? :)

The engine is not stressed at all. The base version will have about 220 hp. Many performance cars around 2.0 liters have similar power numbers, Mazdaspeed 3, S2000, Cooper S, Cobalt SS, HHR SS, many Audi's, and many others. The Ecotech has been raced and can handle upwards or 900 hp. 255 hp is not gonna be an issue at all....that's 127.5 hp per liter, which is very impressive, but has been done many times.
Gurudel 01-08-2010, 08:37 AM I have been a Mitsubishi guy before this car and i have seen many evolutions with well over 300-400 and 500 HP out of the 2.0L block. Turbo charging a 4 is super tuner friendly and can yield tons of power. This car looks cool
Malo83 01-08-2010, 12:06 PM Very Nice! that is one stout looking Buick ;)
DrivenDaily 01-08-2010, 03:18 PM Wow, then 255 HP wouldn't be much of a stretch at all, then. I just went and looked at it. Very nice! I like the taillights better but not the swoopy scoopy thing under the headlights. Oh well, if it's fast no one will ever see it when I drive it!
Thanks for the info on the tuning to 2.0's in the past. Really puts it into perspective.
Silver LTZ 01-08-2010, 05:05 PM Autoblog says Lutz said this car is a go for sometime in 2011! If so, I'll be getting one for sure. See what the future holds with Lutz's statement. He has jumped the gun before LOL.
i like it...definetly a looker and i don't care much for power as much as the ride...

I hope they make this thing as they say. If so, the Malibu will be traded in the next day. The GS would make an even nicer daily driver.
Brianc538 03-16-2010, 10:27 PM Definately a hot car, thats for sure! It's nice to see a car made with those type of accessories and setup like that from the factory.

I hope they make it, I'd sell the Malibu and get one of these as my new daily driver in a heartbeat....
Brianc538 03-17-2010, 04:47 PM I'd keep the Malibu, it's the wife's anyway and I would be driving the Regal GS!! Lets hope they follow through with it and keep it the way it is now.

Last I read it should be just like that, on sale in about a year or less.
FenwickHockey65 03-21-2010, 08:15 AM Just wanted to throw this out there...
I've seen the 2011 Regal brochure and the GS Concept is on the back page with the words, "Watch out. The future's coming fast."

Anyone who wants one now, you can go ahead and place your orders for CXL or CXL Turbo, however, navigation and the CXL Turbo model are both currently on constraint. Regals ordered with navigation will be built towards the end of April, CXL Turbo models won't be built until late this year.
ChevyFreak 03-23-2010, 09:30 PM Is that going to be the Malibu's twin like the cavalier and sunfire were?
ChadSpender 03-23-2010, 09:58 PM looks like a nice ride!
Silver LTZ 03-24-2010, 06:37 AM Is that going to be the Malibu's twin like the cavalier and sunfire were?
No, no. Smaller, lighter weight. Buick's LaCrosse is their "Malibu".
ChevyFreak 03-24-2010, 08:02 AM Bummer, was hoping it would be so we would be able to steal the motor and trans easily :)
Silver LTZ 03-24-2010, 08:54 AM Bummer, was hoping it would be so we would be able to steal the motor and trans easily :)
Well I'm sure you could still do that. :D
ChevyFreak 03-24-2010, 10:55 AM Well I'm sure you could still do that. :D
Yeah but it will be more work since I am sure that the motor and trans won't just bolt in like the engines from the j-bodies.

They are all gonna be Ecotech based, even the 255 HP one in the GS.
