: Firestone FR710 tire pressure?

What do you guys run your tire pressure at for the FR710s. I had them at 32 psi when I bought it then the cold knocked them down so I asked the dealership to fill them back to 32 and they filled them to 37-38. Just curious what everyone else runs at?

Thanks,
Maude

I have the Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires. They say max press is 44 psi and the little sticker on the door jamb says to run all four at 30. Ever since I got the car 14 months ago I have been plagued with what seems like tires that don't grip well during any kind of cornering attempts. I was also noticing a lot of scrubbing of the shoulders. After reading what some on this forum have to say I decided to pump them up to 40 psi. I used a digital gauge to ensure they were all the same. Now the little bumps and the big ones are all more noticeable to me, but I also feel a lot safer in corners because the tires grip where they used to slide.

I had my car in for regular service Friday (2/5/10) and it included a tire rotation. They unceremoniously reduced all 4 tires to 30. When I left the steering felt imprecise but the ride was improved. As I was heading across town Saturday the feeling of wander and pulling slightly left had also returned. When I got to my friend's place I pumped them up, but this time I put them at 38 psi. The irregularities in the road are again more pronounced but the wishy-washy feel of the steering is gone, as is the tendency to feel like it's sliding in corners.

At 38 psi out of a max 44 (on the tires) I figure they're now at 86% of max, about 7/8. At 30 psi they were at 68%, about 2/3 filled. Using the math I learned in junior high , 7/8 = 21/24, and 2/3=16/24. The difference is 5/24.

I don't know if all that math actually does anything for anyone except maybe an engineer (which I certainly am not), but for me the result is how it drives and responds. 30 psi is way too low for me. I might try 36, 35, and/or 34 as time goes by, but I'm definitely not going back to 30!

I hope relating this helps you.

I try to keep the 710 tires at 30. They grip well at that pressure. I can throw the car into a 90 degree corner and have the throttle to the floor by the time I get to the apex.

I am running 36psi @ 50F. Less pressure causes numb steering. Over all I ma not happy with firestones. Most crappy tire that any car manufacturer can put on any car.
I've been searching new tires but could not come up with something for my budget.

40 psi is MUCH, MUCH to high for those or any tires that recommend you run 30-32. LS2's are not going to grip well, they are an all season tire. Pumping a tire up to 40 psi to "help" in this matter will just reduce ride quality and shorten tire life since the tires will wear the centers quicker. All season tires need to have some give. If you air them up to high they will have no give at the limit and will just lose traction at the limit. And with little or no warning. If you want a tire that grips better by a high performance tire, don't try to turn an all season tire into one, it will cost you in the long run.

32psi seems to work the best on my LS2's, tried 38psi and the ride suffered, felt like I was riding on solid rubber tires, once the tires get heated up the pressure will go up a couple of #'s

Rule of thumb is for every 10F change in air temperature, psi changes by 1. if you set your tires @ 52F to 32psi and then leave your garage to see temperature is only 32F, then your tires will act as they have 30psi.
