I have a 08 malibu lt, my radio doesn't have xm, I was looking at the window sticker and at the options and pricing section it has a 'xm delete' $200. Does that mean that my radio had xm? Can I put it back or do I need a new/different hu? I want to have xm on the stock hu, also is the actual xm signal sent to the radio or to the antenna?

I'm pretty sure that "XM Delete" means that the car never had it. It was specifically build without it. Not sure what you would have to do to get it...

It's probably a completely different radio without XM electronics. Check with a dealer and see if one can be installed.

Totally different radio and roof antenna.

I went to a dealership but they had no idea, they just told me to get a new hu, I asked about the signal because my car doesn't have an antenna so I don't know how that would work out???

Just get an XM standalone receiver. Would be far cheaper than getting a new HU.
Also, ONLY way to get the XM delete was to order the car as a fleet order.

Yup, car was surely a rental or company car.

Just MHO but I would just get an HU with HD radio and forget about XM. Between internet, mp3 players, and HD radio XM is pointless. But just an opinion.

yes the car was a rental. so if I was to get a hu with xm would I still need to mess with the antenna?

Yes You would still need to get the antenna also but there is no guarantee that the wiring and everything else required would be there also.

If you get a subscription, ask them what channels have commericals. You will be surprised that some do. I found out the hard way. (by listening :-) )

yeah, I've had xm for about three years, I have it at home and on my cars, is just that on this car I want to wait until I get the double bin hu but that might be until next year since the one I want is expensive and I have another priorities, but I drive a lot for work so I was trying to get the xm to get another option to listen to, and I don't like having the separate receivers :(
