I'm trying to get a feel as to what our conquest sales are for the Malibu. It's something that's pretty important right now, since we're trying to pull people away from the camcordtimas and to the Malibu.

So what make/model of car did you drive before you bought your Malibu?

Why do I have 3 vehicles? I dunno.

Well, we have three cars, and just until last year when I started driving, only two drivers in the family. It just helps to have an extra car.

And it doesn't look as if we're getting that many import conquests...:(

I had a 99 VW Bug that I sold to my dad. I miss her...she was good to me.

My first car was an 86 Hyundai Excel. 0-60 in 2 weeks...downhill....on ice.
My second was a 87 Chevy S-10. I missed that truck too. Then came the Bug and now the Mali.

I think getting rid of the mini truck segment was the dumbest idea ever. Ford and Chevy could probably make so much money now if they still had TRU mini trucks like the o.g. S-10 and Ranger. You still get your pickup truck and a smaller more fuel efficient engine in it.

Well I guess I should say what we used to own as well...

It was a '93 Saturn SW2. Good car, rattle bucket all around, but lasted 243,000 miles until the engine gave out. We weren't planning on a new car that soon, in fact, we were scheduled for a change in 2008 (when, ironically, the new body style arrived), but driving two gas guzzling trucks every day eventually forced us to buy a replacement early, so we went with an '07 Malibu. Now I'm kicking myself for not waiting a year.

I traded in my 04 Colorado quad cab.. I can't remember the package designator, but it was the low-rider and it pretty much had everything they offered.

My vehicular history... starting in Feb 2000, I think.

2001 F-150 extended cab traded for
2003 Ford Escape (that's what having kids will do for you) traded for
2004 Colorado (Had this one longer than any other) traded for

'08 Malibu 2LT 4-cyl replaced an '04 Suburban LS 2wd we had for 3.5 years after an '02 Avalanche. Before that were 2 Chryslers, the last of which soured that brand experience.

Mom said she could never go "below a Tahoe" after the trucks, but loves the Malibu more than anything--it's perfect.

Just thinking lately...many years ago, she also had an '89 Chevy Corsica that was EXACTLY the same colors, dark gray with a lighter gray interior. That car was 100% trouble free for the 6 years she had it, and everyone is hoping the Malibu--the newest version of that old Chevy--is the same.

nope, i did not ... drove it once, it was a fun little thing. should be a rear/all whell drive though, a bit too much torque steer. not that my Bu doesn't torque steer, i just don't feel the same urge to push it to the max :)

Good God!!! How could you control that in the front wheeler (open diff I presume) ??? Stock 200 hp+ engine provides enough to cause some serious jiggling, can't imagine what happens if you put all 305 ponies to the ground....

My folks are turning the in the lease on their '06 SAAB 9-5 Aero, and getting (buying) an '09 Malibu LTZ V6. We pick it up tomorrow, very exciting. Pretty amazing that we are excited about a Malibu, after coming from SAABs. That says a lot about the impression this new car is making!

I have a '99 9-3 with 110k myself, and plan to keep it as long as I can - I've owned it since day 1.

After I acquired my Bu', I sold my 2000 Toyota Echo Sedan for 2,300. Best dang investment you could hope for in a car...unless you fell upon a '67 Mustang in mint condition for a hundred bucks (bought it 2,000; put nothing but insurance and gas in it).

I posted earlier that my mother went from an '04 Suburban to her '08 'Bu.

Now with me, it was a little different. I went from what was my first car, and a very memorable one at that, a '95 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham with the Chevy LT1 V8 and some other special changes on my part:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/caddycruiser/95%20Fleetwood%20January%206%202008/Image00043.jpg

to the '08 Pontiac G6 GT Coupe this summer that turned into 3 months of problems and eventually the repurchase settlement with GM that resulted in my current '09 Malibu 2LT V6:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c101/caddycruiser/My%20Cars%20Stuff/08%20G6/July%203%202008/Image00001.jpg

The Cadillac was a very memorable and cool few years of life, including my last 2.5 years of college and the many home->school->home and back highway trips in between. Sold it to a friend and Cadillac forum member who had a trophy winning example of the same in Chicago, to be his daily driver. I got the G6 after falling for my mother's 'Bu but wanting something a little different, where the coupe+color+interior+power etc. of the Pontiac just spoke to me. A shame it turned out to be a lemon, because that was an awesome car otherwise.

Nowhere near as great as the Malibu, which looks and feels like a car a few tiers above the G6 despite the very close pricetags, but without it I never would have--oddly--had the chance at such a higher end 'Bu.
