Little by little more wheel companies are making wheels for our odd bolt-patterns. Changed your wheels? Well if so post up some pics and specs.

I'll start. Enkei LS-R 20" wheels. Falken FK452 245/35/ZR-20 tires.
Love them so far, look great, handle great and are pretty smooth and quiet.

Here are a few pics.

Will do. I paid $1135 otd installed for these wheels and tires. Michigan has 6% sales tax too which is in the total. I should have them installed by Saturday. My local discount store had to order them. You can check these out at discount tires site.

In smaller sizes yes, not larger ones. Make sure you are not being forced to use spacers.

I like them as well, what are the specs on them? Did they simply replace the stocks or did you purchase both wheels and tires?

I bought both wheels and tires -- All-Season on both for now (stock Hanook's on the steelies and I got Kumho Ecsta ASX's for the Borbet wheels.) My plans are to go to Winter on the stock wheels and summer tires on the borbet's once they each havea few flats.

I stuck with stock sizes all across the board, and honestly 17" is what i'd prefer in Chicago, I already have to run pressures high to survive and sacrifice tires at the expense of safe non dented wheels. I'm having to torch a small imperfection on the stock wheel already! (Was running 31PSI in the winter for traction and it caught up with me. The ding it minor and no leaking but still, cmon. guess 36 on stocks for winter and 40's on my borbet's is my new plan)

So with 51PSI max im running 40 on these Kumho's. Oh chicago, notice how i said flats, not worn out. I've never had a set of tires wear out.

40 psi is IMO way too high. I'd run no more then 34-35. Plus 40+ will kill the ride and can mis-shape the tires.

ChicagoMalibu2009
04-30-2010, 01:53 PM
I agree 40 seems high, but if the max is 51PSI, could 40 really be to the "overinflation is bad too, since it can create a bad wear pattern only on the inside" level? And even if so, if it protects my wheels a bit more im fine with that to some extent as i am so completely tired of having dented wheels. (i avoid potholes, go stupid slow through those construction bumps, and STILL. what do these other people's wheels look like? yikes.)

Is 40PSI at all dangerous though? Im pretty intent on 40 on my summer wheels and 36 on my winter steelies, but am open to opinions if this is a bad idea. This, in my opinion, is the next step (step 4 or so by my count) to trying to make it through chicago roads.

As for killing the ride, I have only been in this "program" :-D for about a week and no long distance drives. Im heading to indiana tonight so I will get some highway miles and see. This is something new and i would not be averse to changing my mind, its just what ive settled on for good, for right now.

Here are some samples for your enjoyment.

I dont want one of my four Kumho's to be this guy:

It's the city of Chicago, and they're notorious for doing interesting things with funds according to some. I cant' say for sure where all the money goes, but we have the largest sales tax in the country and the alley behind my girlfriend's is still cobblestones. I pretend it's a "nostalgic," on purpose type of thing. That attitude works pretty good for alot of things. :)

It's past the "four minute mile" of taxes. Over 10%.

At 10.25% sales tax right now, with over a billion in school cuts alone going into the next school year. Oh where does all the money go indeed....

Nice! ;) I like the 5 spoke design.

Thanks! I didn't actually want to get rims, I was satisfied with the LT wheel covers that almost looked like rims. But I damaged them severely after hitting a large pot hole on the highway, and the dealer said they wouldn't be able to be restored to their "original condition". So I opted to spend $75 more than it would have cost to repair them incompletely, and get a set of relatively inexpensive rims at Tire Discounters. Turns out I love the way they look on the car!

Yeah. I would'nt have spent more than $500 unless I had to. In this case it would have cost something like $495 just to repair the two wheels and wheelcovers, and they wouldn't have been restored completely. The guy at the dealership said you'd be able to tell they were repaired. So since I was on the hook for at least $495 I figured why not just upgrade. I didn't have too much money though, and was limited to rims that were in-stock because I needed to be able to drive my car right away. But I found these at Tire Discounter, and liked them a lot for the cost. I think when it was all said and done, it was right around $565.

Let that all be your little secret -- They look real clean and could pass for a $1000-$1500 "On Purpose" type of setup..

I like them, you scored big time for that price even though it was a crappy thing that happened to begin with.

So far those are the closest that I can get to what I am looking for.

I also like these

But the accents only come as machined finish

Machined looks good too, I just want something to match the chrome from the Malibu.

Been looking for something since I bought the car haha I'm picky.

I'd be happy to take in any suggestions! :)

It's tuff. Our cars have an odd bolt pattern that doesn't have the best selection unless you start adding adapters and rings. No thanks to that. Then, alot of the ones that fit are 22" chromed out donk wheels that just aren't to my taste. I wanted a 20" wheel, machined, with some bright accents which is why I had got the Enkei LS-R. When I got my new car, the Malibu went to the wife and she wanted nothing to do with the 20's so I sold them on here and put back on the OEM 18's. She feels like she has no worries with OEM wheels and it does ride a little better. But I sure miss the look it had. But, it is her car now.

True that, would a 20" keep the malibu around the same ground level as the stock tire?

Not sure how to explain, Getting new rims look better with a shorter side wall.
so would an 18" Rim with a tire that has a shorter sidewall make a big difference from a stock 17"?

I hope that makes sense

It is not so much the brand, but the model. Like Goodyear makes good tires, but the LS2 sucks. Stay with a mainstream brand and check the reviews on Tire Rack and you should be good to go. When I had the 20's I was running Falken FK452's and liked them alot.

That place is considered "gray market". Some stuff is refurbs and returns. There is a reason why they are so much cheaper. Be careful what you buy there as many companies will not honor the warranty it bought there.

I though the DUB emblem was the coolest part of the car along with the chrome trim on the doors:rolleyes:. I thought they looked pretty good (too big to use around here safely), but it would probably be too flashy for me too. I just want some simple, 5 spoke, matte black 18's.

That is one great looking Bu! The wheel choice is different, something that I haven't seen on CMF before. It looks so much more aggressive lowered as well. Very nice job!

Do your tires turn in alot now that you have lowered it? It looks like the front would be worse than the rear from the pictures...

Yeah, they do stick out a little, but I think it looks pretty good I think, makes the car look faster and sportier. I couldn't tell you what the backspace is but I do have 1 inch thick wheel adapters. Yeah, the horror stories that you mostly hear are from heavier, faster vehicles that the driver has put them on incorrectly or has put stress on them from driving rough. I don't think I ever have a problem being on a 4 cyl. car that I drive normal.
