What a HUGE improvement Ford pulled off with this. I am actually thinking of getting one instead of another older Vette. Even the crappy magazines are getting mid 4's to 60 and 12.7 @ 111+ in the 1/4. The premium interior is very nice too.
What do you guys think? I think this is the first time I like the current Mustang more then the current Camaro.

If it turns out to be as great as they believe it will be, the Maro will have some serious competition. I say go for it SilverLTZ, pull the trigger on that bad boy!

They hit dealers in about 2 months. I'm gonna take a test drive. If I like it I will wait about 6-9 months to see if there are any issues with the new engine before I pull the trigger. But as of now I think I might go for it. Especially since my '00 SS has become more of a track car then street car. So I can use a nice weekend toy. :D
I actually think I like it in silver, with the red and black leather.

Very nice car. Ford is really raising the bar on all there cars. Personally I like the looks of the new Camaro better but Ford is really coming back very strong against GM. I had seen a new maroon color Camaro at a gas station down the road from my house yesterday. It looked sweet and had everyone turning their heads looking at it. I wonder what the they will be asking at sticker price for the new Mustang? Remember they still have the Vette to complete with in that similar class and I think the Vette is a much better looking car than the Mustang and the Camaro. I'm thinking it will cost a lot less $ than the Vette. The Mustang and Camaro has one thing I like more than the Vette, is that it has rear passenger seats. I would turn and walk away from the Vette for that reason because of my personal use of a car but everybodys needs and wants are different from mine or someone else. To compare apples to apples it would be more the Mustang VS. Camaro for class and price range, I'm sure. Again very nice car.

I will be trading in either the Malibu or my wifes Pilot on a 2012 Mustang GT next year.
Most likely a convertable as well.
The new 5.0 motor is going to be screamer - I just want to wait a year to ensure the engine is going to last - I figure I will let all the tuners and first year owners to beat the $%^# out of it and make sure all is well.
I read a very in depth article about the new Coyote 5.0 engine where they stated they pretty much maxed it out in all capacities.....the weak link is the Rods - the engineers stated that if you are going to produce any more HP from this engine that the rods will not hold up as they are pretty much maxed out.
They stated that they will be coming out with an upgrade shortblock in the SVT catalog with stronger rods to statisfy the tuners straping on a supercharger right away.
A 5.0 with a 7500 rpm readline with 412 HP is right up my alley - this is / will be a awesome street car.
The 'only' things that bother me about all of these new cars - the Camaro included is the weight.....These pony cars are way up there in weight.
My Fox notch only weighs 3150 with me in it - these new cars are 3800 pounds plus.....yes they are much better drivers and I am sure there are no creaks and rattles like the past Mustangs - but man - a little more weight savings would do wonders for the longevity of the whole driveline.

I own a 2000 Camaro SS and I've owned a few Vettes, and love them. But they are in a different class then the Mustang and Camaro. My Camaro is basically gonna be a track car now, so I want something nice for the weekends. I still might get another older Vette, but I think I want a new car, and the new Vette I would want (Z06) is like 80K. I am looking to keep in under 35K well equipped, which the Mustang will come in at. A similar new Camaro SS is close to 40K. And the looks of the new Camaro just don't do it for me. Plus the cars are too damn heavy and the 5.0 is quicker and handles better.

From what I read in 5.0 the rods have been beefed up somewhat already. The Shelby GT350 has a blower on it too.
I agree weight sucks, but with all the new gov't crash test BS, and all the nannies and gadgets they keep adding it will keep going up. The Challenger is 4100+ pounds, the Camaro 3900+ pounds, the Mustang is the lightweight at about 3600+ pounds. The days of real performance cars (excluding Ferrari/Porsche, etc....) weighing in at 3200 pounds or less is gone it looks like.

I'm not sure about the numbers we're seeing. You have a 3600+ lbs car putting down numbers close to a 3100 lbs C5 Zo6. I'm thinking ringer or it is geared to be a 1/4 mile car. I'm thinking ringer.

Not sure I follow. A well driven '02-'04 C5Z is a low 12 second car, mags got mid 12's. They weighed about 3100ish and put down about 365. The new GT weighs about 3600 or so, puts down about 395 (the 412 is proven to be well underrated by about 5 dyno tests so far) and runs high 12's by the mags, meaning a good driver will get mid 12's. Sounds right on the money to me....
