: What is the average MPG?

So i have really been researching the LT2 and LTZ models, i was wondering what was the average MPG everyone is getting with these types of models. The sticker i looked at says 17-20 city and roughly 25 highway. That seems pretty low for these types of cars..I don't know.

I got 29.2mpg driving Detroit to Milwaukee including going through toll booths and construction and Chicago traffic. Had the car locked in at 70mph with the speedo.

I regularly get 23-25mpg in mixed driving around town.

I hypermile and do my best to coast and not touch the brakes. I have the 6 cylinder LTZ.

In city driving I'm getting 20-21 in my V6 LTZ. I've only had it a couple of weeks. Note that the DIC and manual calculation are about the same.

Man.. I am loving this car even more, i love how you can have a car with a V6 and still get good gas mileage.

I have a 2LT with the I4 / 4speed combo and I've been getting 23 to 25 mpg/tank.

My 2LT, 2.4L, 4-speed is getting 26.6 combined city (60%) and highway (40%) according to the DIC.

With our V6 we get upper 20s on the highway and mid teens in town. We live in a small town and intown trips are only 2 to 3 miles at a time which makes for poor milage.
We are very happy with the mileage on the highway. The V6 has good power and can still get 27 to 30 MPG.

I second everyone else's observations for the V6. I haven't had a tank return less than 25mpg so far, but I tend to be a pretty conservative driver, avoid congestion if at all possible, and live where most of my normal day-to-day driving is better than 90% highway. With all that, I have seen a high of 32.2 mpg, routinely see just over 30, and have lately discovered that two adults and two children running along at 70ish with the A/C on in ~90F temps returns a touch under 30 mpg (28.8 and 29.2 for last two tanks with that sort of driving).

Do I love it- you know it! (uh, the extra power over the old 3.5l V6 / 4AT is addictive, though that combination was better for fuel economy to the tune of around 4 mpg on average)

Like most everyone else I'm averaging about 23 but I haven't gotten the first tank through it yet so we'll see how it turns out in the end. I'm wanting to see how many miles I can go on a full tank, 260 so far and the fuel to E says I've still got around 140 at just over 1/4 of a tank. If I can truly squeeze out 400 miles on a 15 gallon tank my V6 will be better than the Ford Focus 4 banger I had been driving to work.

I have the V6 and drove from Detroit to Grand Rapids yesterday, about 300 miles round trip. I kept the cruise control at 75 and got 29 MPG...

I feel like the odd man out! I have a LT2 4cyl and regularly get 20-21 mpg. 5 days out of the week, I am 100% city driving with a lot of stop lights and hills...oh, and it's extremely hot, so none of that is good for my gas mileage.

I got 31.5 MPGs yesterday going about 50 miles at 40-60 MPH. I usually get 27-29 at 70-80 MPH on a long highway trip. I have a V6.

I've found that with the 4cyl's, at least with mine, it LOVES to stay in 3rd gear....I have to give it gas and lift my foot just to get it to shift into 4th sometimes. I'm wondering if there is a ECU flash that can be done. Even though it was a Ford, my Fusion had the ECU flashed and it completely changed the behavior of the car.

ECU=Electronic Control Unit

Controls a bunch of stuff in the car like door locks, airbags, climate control, etc.

I also have the LT2 4cyl and I also get around the samr mileage 95%city driving.I can't complain too much it is better than the 12.5 I used to get in my 05 1500HD(6.0L crew cab)

Well, I guess I can't complain then!

It's funny that my V6 Fusion was just tarting to get 20-21 mpg in the city...it took it 23,000 miles to get to that point, though.

I'm in the same boat as you, 1LT .
Getting 19-21 Suburban driving w/ less than 900 miles on my new Malibu.
My daily trip to work is 12 miles round trip "suburbs", with 24 traffic lights in that 'round trip, not counting stop signs ect ....
The occasional 5 to 12 mile higway run once per week is not enough to get the average above 22 or so ..
I doi notice that the Hwy milage itself is very good, I will soon do a longer highway only trip & see what happens.

For those that have the 4cyl. How long until your started to see decent fuel economy in city. My onboard computer shows only about 16MPG average. It's a brand new 4cyl LTZ with the 6speed auto. I really only drive in the city with the occasional 10-15 mile highway jaunt. I drive fairly conservatively so I was expecting better mileage than this. That's the whole reason I went with a 4 to begin with.

Just did a round trip of 650 miles (Dayton Ohio to Midland Michigan and back). ALL but 10 miles was interstate, where I set the cruise on 72 MPH. I made 2 stops each way, both at rest stops. I kept the air conditioning ON the entire time. I averaged 28.8 MPG for the trip. Not too bad, IMHO, for the 3.6.

I have adjusted how I drive and been concentration on keeping the speed at around 60. my trip to work one way is 25 miles and the roads are a bit hilly. I have been averaging between 29-30 mpg. I must say that toward the end of my drive (which is primarily highway type roads) I go through a small town with approximately 4 stops if I don't hit the lights right. The trick to the gas mileage is really being careful on stop and go acceleration and keeping the speed consistent. I currently have 2900 miles on the car so it will be interesting if things pick up.

When I have driven the car in the city on weekends, and this past week while off work, I averaged 24-25mpg. Again I had to watch the acceleration, which if you know me has been a HUGE change.

I was going 55 and trying to make it good, i think it would
have got better but i only had 30 miles to go till i got home
the road was even kinda hilly, but no stops. I was even impressed 40.5 when i got home.
i have never tried again.

You've got to keep in mind that 'city' driving varies from place to place. The more stops you make, the more often you'll be sitting in one place burning fuel for 0 miles (ie. the proverbial 0 mpg thing). Added to that is the increased consumption as you accelerate back up to speed. Generally, the bigger the engine's displacement, the worse it burns fuel during this part. For example, my 07 Avalanche 5.3l V8 routinely returned 20-21 mpg overall for my work trips. But in downtown Asheville rush-hour driving the instant readout only showed between 6 and 11 mpg. The 08 Malibu 3.6l displays between 13 and 16 in the same situation. Gearing makes a huge difference for highway cruising, hence the 20+ for the Avalanche much of the time (I have 2 stoplights, and maybe 3 stopsigns in my regular drive of ~31 miles each way, ~20 mi. of which is I40).

Really, if you spend most of your driving time in stop and go traffic, the mild hybrids would probably be a lot better suited for you than the regular four cylinders. Mostly because the BAS system shuts off the gas engine at stops, eliminating the 0 mpg issue. The standard four cylinders are probably best for someone with a decent mix of city and highway driving, where they use less fuel during acceleration (compared the the V6 cars), but don't spend as much time completely stopped. And the six cylinders will at least look acceptable for mostly highway driving (like mine), where the results can easily be between 28 and 32 mpg for the 3.6l. Of course, I would expect to see 2-4 mpg better in the same situation with the 4 cylinder cars.

I think these are good numbers posted for what is classified as a midsize car. I traded in a Silverado 6.0 that got 18 highway maybe 11 around town. Thats why I got a V6 cause anything would be an improvement.

Just bought my LTZ 4 cylinder last Thursday.

I got my dream job in April. Unfortunately, it requires me to drive 148 miles round trip each day to work - 2 miles to the freeway, 71 freeway, 1 mile off the freeway - and back again. All against traffic so I drive 72 mph once I hit the freeway.

Mileage so far is:

31.5
30.5
32.2
31.3
31.5

Not too shabby given that my Jeep Grand Cherokee got me 18.4-19.1 (and I only hit 19 twice).

I'll keep you posted.

Ok, so my earlier worries have proved false. The DIC indicated 16.2 average mpg on my first tank of gas seemed too low even for all city driving. On my first fill up it actually calculates out to about 19.5mpg which is respectable and far better than my Ridgeline which gets about 14 in city. To those of you complaining of your DIC reading High, mine seems to be reading lower than actual. Go figure.

Just a reminder as I think it has been talked about in this thread, there is a break in period for the engine, and also until the first or sometimes even second oil change and all the fluids are cleaned and the manufacturing "leftovers" are removed fuel mileage should get progressively better and better.

Heheh...probably.
Flooring the accelerator out of stoplights is FUN!!!

One time this idiot ricer driver pulled up next to me at a stoplight...started revving his puny, pathetic engine, trying to act all badass, looking over at me with this stupid, smug smile.

The light turned green.

I floored it. Then watched in the rearview mirror at the look of embarrassment on the idiot kid's face after his "souped-up" honda civic just got smoked by a midsize family sedan. :D :D :D

We made two out of town trips this week and got 31.5 MPG and 33.0 MPG.
The 31.5 was a mix of 75 MPH interstate and 60 MPH two lane. The 33.0 was mostly 60 MPH two lane. Both tanks were figured manually and I squeezed in all the gas I could when filling.
Both routes were on rolling terrain with only a few hills steep enough to make the trans downshift to fourth.
We have a little under 5,000 miles on our 6 cyl. LTZ.

You know, I'e never looked at the gallons - my focus seems to be on th $$$$ lately. I do regularly get 450 miles to the tank if that helps.

I just bought a 2009 LT2 4cyl with 6 speed auto. This week I drove it 280 miles, mostly interstate 70 mph. I filled the car tonight and hand calculated 32.97 mpg. The DIC was showing 29.4 mpg. I squeezed every last drop of gas in that I could. When I bought the car I was hoping for 30 mpg, so needless to say I am very happy with the car. Beats the dodge avenger I traded that got 23.8 mpg.

I'm just under 3000 miles on my LTZ with the 4cyl. I found watching the instant fuel economy readout really helps to teach you what bad driving habits are. I've been getting about 450 miles per fill up and now up to 27+mpg. This isn't bad considering I'm going 50 miles each way including construction traffic on I75 during the Detroit rush hour. I can actually improve my mpg even when creeping along at 20 mph. My lead foot from my prior Grand Prix GTP has gotten a little lighter ;), plus that constant slamming on the brakes every 5 seconds in bumper to bumper is also much improved :D
