Hello,

I have a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. If I replace the EGR valve, with the check engine light on, how do I clear the computer to make the check engine light go off. I've already replaced the O2 sensors. The last on my list is the EGR valve. I was told, once I clear the computer, I have to drive it for so many miles before the computer registers everything and the light goes off. Is this true ? And if so, how many miles does it have to be driven ? Thanks for reading my question.

Best regards... :D

Failed the emission testing? You can clear the CEL with a scan tool which most auto parts stores let you borrow. If everything is okay, it will go into a closed loop fuel cycle once fully warmed up. If you disconnect the battery, the CEL will go out but it will take a long time (week or more, hundreds of miles) before it is ready for emission testing or the CEL comes on again.
