I think it would be interesting to see this demographic as it applies to the '08 Malibu.

My wife is the principal, here. :(

So far, I'm surprised. The gender is at 75% men.

Well, it is a hot, sporty-looking sedan this time around. No offense to any females here, but most of the ones I know could care less about how their transportation looks (appliances), while most men (not all, doh) like their cars / trucks to look more aggressive and / or tough.

True USA1, what surprises me is I remember reading the Malibu was designed by women engineers with an eye toward appealing to more women. I haven't found it yet, but supposedly, there is storage space designed to fit handbags.

Not my wife. For her, it has to look good, handle well, and have good power.

To me I'm guessing the split will be close to 50%, 50% for Chevy. I have not read anywhere what they expect.

Same here, Lee. My wife looked and looked and always found something that didn't appeal to her in everything we looked at. Until I talked her into looking at the "New" Malibu. She didn't care for the last generation model.

Upon seeing the Malibu, the only question she had was if she could get it in red.

My Wife was the one who really wanted us to get it, but I'm the one who drives it. She get's too nervous in big cars...which is fine with me, I love driving it!

Doesn't matter! I traded in my Fusion for it, and she drives our Jetta. So, it's pretty much "mine"....she'll probably only drive it in emergency situations!

While this maybe true... it is kinda of "the in" thing to say of Detroit engineering teams.

I must say I'm surprised with the early results of both polls I've posted. So far, overwhelmingly male support, spread evenly across all age groups.

The Malibu appears to have hit a wide spectrum of buyers. Way to go, Chevy!

Now now Mr. Bass:
I think you’re confusing this with a Sex Pole thread. I think that thread is located on one of those inferior Malibu forums.

We need to strive for a higher level of sophistication here. This is a Sex Poll. The correct response should be more like YES in bold bleeding red caps...........

A bit off topic, but how do you like your Trailblazer? I work at Moraine Assembly where they are built.

Oh no I love my ride and with my husbands help we are putting a spoiler, headrest tv for the kids, tint and who knows what else.He rags about me always out washing it and thinks I am crazy for asking my kids at one time to take shoes off before entering the malibu, I let that one go. My other car was a 1994 Beretta old and abused. Now he uses it for gas reasons instead of his Avalanche. I love my malibu and do care what it looks like. But I understand some women are like just as long as it gets me to do my nails or hair

Now if we could only get them to post some pics....

I could be wrong Eric, but I think only one of the 7 who voted as a female being the principal driver is a woman. I know that Lee and I have posted photos with our wives.

There are only 2 female members of the Forum, as far as I know. :( I think we need more.

As a female looks of the car were a top for me. I got out of a 2003 BMW and was very concerned that I would not be satisfied but so far I really love this car. The inside is amazing and actually in my opinion beats the bmw. I was looking for the whole package, plus a reasonable price and I most certainly got it with this car!! I got my first email diagnostic report and that was a little creepy but cool at the same time!

You are correct, Pizza! I recently watched this You Tube video where Crystal Windham, the interior design manager, discussed that. Don't know if the video will show here but you can go to You Tube and search her name to see where the handbag area is and how the leather was meant to resemble expensive handbags.

No, it didn't show . . .:(

I am a female and one of the main reasons I'm looking at the Malibu is because of how attractive it is inside and out PLUS it's an affordable car. I currently drive a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 that I bought new. It's a coupe so it's rather sporty and it was kind of fully loaded. Sunroof, leatherette seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, etc. I've only started to have problems with it within the last couple of years and I'll admit, I haven't cared for it to the highest standard but it's still kicking after almost 170,000+ miles.

I started out earlier this month looking at the Ford Fusion then some friends brought my attention to the Malibu. The more I researched it and saw pictures of it, the more I feel in love . . . The only Fusion I would have got was the Sports Package and none of the dealerships in my area had it the way I wanted. I think the Malibu is a better choice anyway. It's luxurious, bold, and eye catching. I would really like to install the 3 piece mesh grill that you guys were discussing in one of the mod forums but I doubt if I could do it myself.

Ok, I'll shut up now. I'm just really excited about this car and how I can get a good deal on it but if not, I still want it!:p

I think you hit it correctly. I think males are more apt to be a part of a club site like this than females are. So there may be many females driving the Malibu but not many on web sites .

I agree about the poll but I still think the Malibu is a universal car. The two people who brought it to my attention were both male.

Female here...I got my malibu and 5 days later it got hit by a hailstorm.
Every man that dealt w/ it loved the car. The insurance inspector, the bodyshop owner, the hail remover dude....they'd all walk up and say "that's one of those new malibu's. I have had far more males look at my malibu 2LT (red for me!) than females. But I think males pay more attention to cars. For me it's pretty but it's something to drive that drives like a dream. But the hail did hurt!

I'm a female and I just love my Malibu! It's looks great. Love the outside to the inside. If anything happens to it, I will be totally upset. I love the reactions I get toward the car. I have people come up and ask what it is and how it looks so different than other cars. It does appeal to guys more. I have many guys come up to me saying I have good tastes in cars. :)

One thing ive noticed I get more reactions from guys then I do ladies.. Like when getting gas or at the store.. There is always something asking me what kind of car it is and how do I like it,.. I see tons of them on the road here in town and its a mix of both male/female drivers for the most part.. There is very few LTZ's riding around but we have a few..

I love our Malibu, but it's my wife's car, and she made the final decision to purchase (Ford Fusion was the competitor we were looking at). She was more interested in gas mileage (hence V4/A6) but loved the looks of the car.

Male driver here ,
found a link to where the lead designers were women , it doesn't say where the purse place is just says

Esther Martinez, Exterior Design Manager, mentioned other subtle design changes that included: exacting fit and finish on the outside, pushing the wheels out to the corners for a bolder look, using ultra-suede inserts and accent piping on the seats and adding a cavernous console for women’s purses

Darren
07-25-2009, 12:05 AM
Also since these women did a good job they should be designing more of Chevy's cars haha , it also says
Someone asked, "What makes it different when a woman designs a car?"

"We pay attention to the small details," Martinez explained, which led us to a discussion of why there are running boards on SUVs. Apparently, when the concept came up, male engineers couldn't see the point of installing them.

Thats in a similar article at:
