I check out the GMInsider forum each day and feel it may be in my best interest to stop. Everyday they have the alarm bells on that GM is going "belly-up" and that is not something I really want to read after buying a new GM car :(. I know GM is in some serious times and that the the management probably needs to change but geez. I saw FenwickHockey65 saying some nice things about this forum and coming over here because it is more positive in nature and some smart aleck gave him heck for that.
I just wanted to post this because I really hope GM turns things around. I love my Malibu and believe that if they keep up the quality and bring cars like their European Opel here things will get better. Thoughts?

GMI is getting kinda depressing. It's still my primary forum since it covers all GM products, but the doom and gloom reports are starting to dampen the mood. Sure, the Non Car Related discussion board is still lively and entertaining as usual, but once you venture out of that, it's just more and more bad news.
Yes, there is talk of GM filing for Chapter 11. However, that doesn't mean anyone should lose all hope in their Malibus or whatever GM they own. GM will not stop making vehicles, nor will they stop selling or servicing cars if they file for Chapter 11. In fact, trends show that companies emerge stronger than ever from Chapter 11. At the moment, it's a last resort option, but it IS available.
Just remember. In 2009, we have the new Camaro hitting dealer lots. We also have the CTS-V arriving as well. In 2010, we have the Chevy Volt, Cobalt replacement, next-gen Buick LaCrosse, and three brand-new crossovers, the GMC Terrain, Saab 9-4x, and next-gen Cadillac SRX, as well as the redesigned Chevy Equinox entering production. As long as we can pull through until then, we'll be all right.
By the way, lio45 (the guy that responded to me) is a good guy. I know for a fact he didn't mean anything by it.

By the way, are you an active member over at GMI? I can't say I've seen you over there...maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

Yes I am a member. I rarely post (maybe twice). It gets rather heated and most of the discussions I do not feel as knowledgeable as some to offer commentary. I go there for the updated GM info and for info around the industry as a whole. The off topic areas are fun to read and many have had me laughing out loud! I do like level headed commentary like some of the comments you have provided and some that a few others have given. I appreciate the fact that there are problems but I like the way some have the ability to remain positive yet realistic. When I read some of it I think that some of those people never liked Chevy or American cars to begin with and just like to “hate”.
You are very right about the Chapter 11 issue but most people do not understand that and end up bailing on a company too quickly when they hear the word bankruptcy. Hopefully with the way the world is working right now it will force companies into producing quality goods and stop resting on the past. I think Chevy is trying to do that now but people are just a little wary. I took a big plunge when I bought because I was of the mentality of a lot of people are concerning American. I can honestly tell you that this car is solid and I have not regretted buying it. Actually it is funny because I had been in the habit with my old car of getting in and looking for what new had broken and for a while I was doing that with this car but (knock on wood) nothing has happened.:)

Hey, you know what, I do remember you. I believe you posted something about your husband's truck or to that effect?
Realistic thinking is key in a time like this. Many of the guys over there don't want to see GM in such a bad state, nor do they like the talk about their favorite brands being shut down. I'm a GMC fan myself, and I was pretty worried about the rumors of GMC being killed off. But in all honesty, if killing off GMC will help save GM, then they should do it. I'll just have to find alternatives.
By the way, it'd be great if you posted some more...the only other active woman on GMI is MRSshadams...the testosterone levels over there get pretty high sometimes...:D

I will work on it :). Sometimes the bantering gets so intense and there are some really intelligent posts that I just sit back and enjoy.

I'm proud to say that amidst all the doom and gloom reports, today, GM rallied back from $10.00/share to $10.72/share.
Not much, but every little bit counts.

I'm actually considering buying 500 shares or so...I really think I could get myself a nice profit in a year or two.

By the way...
WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING PROBLEMS!
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080709/AUTO01/807090377/&imw=Y
When U.S. auto sales slumped last month to their lowest levels in more than a decade, Toyota Motor Corp. suffered as much as anyone else.
Unusual for the Japanese automaker, its U.S. sales tumbled 21.4 percent, even more than the overall market.

Very true!! I just wish that this stuff were talked about more. It seems like quality is slipping for both Honda and Toyota but as everyone else has said they just put out TSB's before they will fully announce to the world a transmission is bad or their engines have a sludge problem!! I think for Toyota at least they are starting to feel the pinch of over extending themselves in several markets. That is not to say that some of the problems that American auto industry is facing is not of their own doing but they are not ALL bad either. The best thing that GM can do is streamline their product offerings and perfect them then the race will really be on.
