I am hoping I can get some feedback before I take my car in to get looked at. I have a 2008 malibu Classic LS with about 48k on it that I use for my commuter vehicle. I recently noticed that when I am going up an incline that it started to sputter and had slight vibration to it. This also has occured while not at an incline.

I had hit the gas and it appears to shift just fine and smooth, but on occasion the sputtering happens. I am hoping this might be an easy thing (such as tranny fluid/fuel filter etc) but thought I would give it a shot and post here to see what feedback I might get. I am mechanically stupid so I cannot self diagnose this!!!!!

You might check on how long ago you changed your fuel filter and/or your air filter. Driving at a constant speed, give or take, doesn't require a lot from the engine compared to accelerating or being under load. Then it needs more air and fuel. If either of these is compromised due to a clogged filter your performance will suffer. It usually begins with occasional issues (esp. when under load), then progresses to more frequent issues, even when at constant loads.

Don't be worried about being "mechanically stupid" as you put it. We all have our strengths and want you to share yours with us.

When you check on your filter changes, check also on whether or not you've changed your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve. This little device makes sure that pressure in the crankcase is vented into the intake system to be burned instead of just being vented into the atmosphere. To check it, carefully pull it out and shake it, making sure not to break the hose or tube going to it. If it rattles you're good. If it doesn't, replace it. They're cheap and easy to R&R.
