: LEAKED: Entire Future of General Motors
FenwickHockey65 07-15-2008, 03:09 PM Rick Wagoner leaked photos of the 2010 Saab 9-4x, 2010 Buick LaCrosse (labeled as Lucerne/Buick sedan on site), 2010 Cadillac SRX, 2011 Chevy Cruze, and 2010 Chevrolet Equinox!

FenwickHockey65 07-15-2008, 03:15 PM My thoughts:
LaCrosse is very nice, vast improvement over the current model.
SRX looks a lot like the Provoq concept, very good.
Cruze looks kickassical, I love that rear end, this will probably end up being my next car.
Equinox looks like an Outlook? WTF? Not bad though.
9-4x is all right...at least it's Saab-like.
barhoc11 07-15-2008, 07:08 PM I couldnt wait for the next gen Lacrosse, now I wish I would have waited for the 2010 Cruze. If this car gets 40mpg there is no reason not to get it
FenwickHockey65 07-15-2008, 07:55 PM There's rumors of a BAS+ model that'll get 50 MPG. ;)
DOACanada 07-16-2008, 05:30 AM Interesting how none of the following brands were leaked:
GMC????
Pontiac????
Seems to support rumors of another brand (other than hummer - which in my opinion is a given) is going to get the axe!
mpoczobut 07-16-2008, 05:59 AM I read yesterday that Lutz said the Cruze is not coming to the US to replace the Cobalt. The Cruze and Beat are for Europe only and do not meet the stricter regulations of North America.
USA1fan 07-16-2008, 07:04 AM I didn't hear that about the Cruze. In fact, everything I've read says the Cruze will be a world car, including the US, and even mentions plants where the North American version will be built..

GMC and Pontiac are going to be fine. Wagoner mentioned future plans for both brands, with GMC emphasizing crossovers like the upcoming Terrain and Pontiac getting some new products in the near future.

Yes, but if you read more into that thread (which I posted, by the way...:D), we're starting to have doubts. There's a chance that Lutz is just playing with our minds as well as toyota's. This may just be misinformation put out to mislead toyota, then they'll suddenly start putting the Cruze on dealer lots, and toyota won't even know what hit them.
NJMalibuman 07-16-2008, 09:50 AM Cars look amazing, the Cruze looks like a agressive looking little Malibu. Lutz said that the Cruze well replace the the Cobalt in 2010. and Saturn is struggling bad plans for the next generation aura have been put on hold, so is this a foreshdowing on want may happen to Saturn?

Not necessarily. Most likely the next-gen Aura aka the Opel Insignia is having fuel economy issues. They're probably tweaking it to get equal to or greater than the current 33 MPG. It'll look really bad on GM's part if they introduce a new Aura that gets less MPGs than the last generation.
pwinskey 07-16-2008, 11:31 AM The only thing in my opinion that GM needs to focus on building is cars that deliver amazing MPG (high 30's mid 40's), and innovative styling and reliability. It would also be nice to think that some of their engineers are behind the scenes tweaking the current and future SUV's and trucks into delivering the best MPG available on the planet. This would help deliver GM from the depths that they are in right now, back into leadership mode. Can't help but notice that GM stock looks better today. Sign of things to come?
pwinskey 07-16-2008, 11:39 AM Oh, and would someone please tell me why in the name of all that is good, would GM not rush a car like the Cruze, that can get that kind of amazing mpg here in this country considering their current state? If I were in charge I would mandate that this happen asap and that no one would leave their desks till it was done.

Because that would make too much sense.
The Cruze is being released in Europe first, probably as a test run to work out any kinks in the car. Once all the problems are fixed, it'll start hitting dealer lots in America.

And never mind, apparently Lutz is delaying the next-gen Aura to give the current model a full model life or something...

Anything's possible, but what it reads like in all the news is that the Europeans are receiving exported cars from factories that will be ready to go, while our factories here in North America are being prepared to build the new car.
There was an interesting blurb where Lutz also mentioned that the Cobalt wasn't near it's EOL yet either, with sales increasing rapidly. I'd read that as a way of justifying the delay it's going to take to get NA production of the Cruze online though, rather than the unvarnished truth.

The Cruze will launch globally in 2009 and in the US in 2010. The reason it's being delayed is further testing of the new 1.4L Turbocharged I-4 engine for North American use. It will be sold alongside the Cobalt for some time.
USA1fan 07-18-2008, 05:21 AM That matches up pretty well with what I've been reading elsewhere. But I guess that makes sense, seeing as you're one of the common people whose posts I read over on GMI.
