40mm is about your best bet. My 20's were that. DON'T use spacers.

They suck. They make your lugs get loose and strain the suspension.

H&R Springs has some for a 4 cylinder malibu. Part number 50705. They are listed on their site under applications http://hrsprings.com/scripts/appguide.php?Mode=Make+Guide&SubMode=Find3&MakeID=42. I am not sure where to buy them from though, I just know I want a set for my car too. Canuck Motorsports has some too, but I don't know if they are for the V6 or 4 cyl. http://www.canuckmotorsports.com/cat_car_domestic.html.

Everyone that has gotten the Canuck ones complained that they are bouncy and that after a year they are shot, and that you have to send em back in, and they send you new ones.

H&R only offers sport springs according to their site, but I am fairly sure that springs is all that can be purchased for the malibu. I haven't even found an adjustable strut yet, just OEM replacement. From what I have read the springs for the 4 and 6 cylinder are different because of there being more weight in the 6 cyl. So if the springs is designed for the 6 cyl. there won't be as much drop in the 4 cylinder model. I know there are a lot of good reviews for H&R springs, Canuck was just another company I had found, but if there is problems with their springs I wouldn't want to be swapping springs a lot.
