: Undecided on color
Malibooboo 03-31-2008, 10:35 AM I went to a local dealer yesterday to look at a wide array of Malibus, but I just can't decide on color. The problem is, I am a bright color kind of person. My current Grand Prix is fusion orange metallic and my previous Grand Am was a bright sport red. For the most part, the colors offered on the Malibu are subtle, classy colors that typically adorn luxury cars. Which I'm sure was GM's goal here. I finally got to see the red jewel color in person yesterday, and while it is a nice color, it just doesn't grab my fancy for sportiness. I find it strange that the Malibu is not offered in sport red, since an Impala is available in that color. Ironically the color my wife liked the most out of them was the bronze metallic.
I wonder if Chevy will tweak the color palette for 09? When I bought my Grand Prix, it was not offered in bright red initially (only the maroon red), so I went with the FOM. The next year Pontiac dropped the orange and added the bright red.
dascrow 03-31-2008, 10:53 AM Have you thought about the new Pontiac G8 at all?

I'm not trying to persuade you Boo, but the sportiness of the red is what sold my wife. After seeing it on an Impala, nothing else would do. The gold metal flake really comes through when clean on a sunny day. Now remember, my wife turns 60 this summer, so I'm sure it takes a lot less for us to classify a color as sporty. Hell, I still wear sandals with sox! Just kidding. ;)
Don't settle for anything less than your own satisfaction, luckily for me my wife loved the red.

Pick any color, drive it out to Iowa, and I'll fix you up with a couple rattle cans of bright red.:D
08MalibuLeaser 03-31-2008, 02:52 PM I guess I'm biased - but I really am enjoying the Black Metallic...very sleek and sporty looking
salgeek 03-31-2008, 03:12 PM My wife told me I'll need to get my ear pierced to go with the Dark Grey 2LT I ordered. How about that for sporty.

My wife's Grand Prix was a bright sport red and we had two motorcycles the same color. I can understand you wanting that color.
That red jewel sure is nice though.
08MalibuLeaser 03-31-2008, 08:54 PM Salgeek - just make sure it's the correct ear you get pierced!

Well, I'll have to give it a second chance. When we went to the dealer it was very late in the day and the sun was going down, and I'm sure the cars weren't the cleanest either.
I'd try black but I already have a black truck and my wife says we can't have two vehicles of the same color in the driveway. :p

Yes indeed. There haven't been too many around yet to look at. Also, the starting price for the V-6 model is almost $27K! Ouch.

We had the same problem. When we went to look at colors it usually was cloudy, or late in the day or the cars were dusty.

Here's a thought. If you like I can make my Malibu available to you at almost anytime. You can come to my place or I to yours, besides I need to see Brandow Chevy anyway to order the mudguards. You call it, no pressure.
08MalibuLeaser 04-01-2008, 11:08 AM With production of the Malibu possibly slated to stop mid-April - I would grab one right now!!!
me2bu 04-01-2008, 09:15 PM My wife and I picked up our car Monday, we love it. The color we went with was silver and the car looks very sharp. I know this is a popular car color, but it does look great on our Malibu. My wife did want the dark gray, but the dealer did not have a car in this color, so I was not sure what it would look like. I think this car looks great in any color.

What trim level and interior color did you get?
BTW, welcome to the site.
08MalibuLeaser 04-02-2008, 06:30 AM Congrats! Post up some pictures - you can't go wrong whatever color you chose with this car!!

Picking the color can be the hardest option to decide on.

You said it - Lee. I'm embarrassed to say how many times I went to the dealer. Ultimately, I went with the color I first feel in love with.

I won't tell you how many miles we drove looking at colors :D
me2bu 04-02-2008, 11:22 AM For the inside of the car we went with the ebony looks very nice. The tan that the dealer had on the lot looked to light and did not match the outside color. We waited a few days extra to find the silver with the ebony worked out well.
08MalibuLeaser 04-02-2008, 12:28 PM I have the ebony and I think it's very classy - especially with the hint of wood trim all the way around the front cockpit...
From one of the ordering sites I can see that they've added the cocao/cashmere interior option to the exterior white. Who makes these color option decisions? Some of the LTZ exterior colors leave you with only one interior color option. I saw the ebony/brick leather and this looks a bit odd under some lighting conditions. I'd really want the golden pewter with the cocoa/cashmere. But according to the dealer this combonation can't be had. Who do I need to talk to (or bribe) to get a color mix that I'd like to buy?

That's been my question for years. When I bought my orange GP, I wanted the lighter taupe color leather seats with two-tone dash, but could not order it that way, so I had to get the dark grey interior. Now if I want the red jewel exterior on the Malibu, I can't get the ebony/brick interior, which makes no sense to me. BTW - I checked out a red G6 over the weekend that does have the light taupe leather seats, so I don't know why they restrict the Malibu.

I wondered the same thing about the lack of interior selections with the Red Jewel. I was really hesitant about the cocoa/cashmere with the red exterior. The wife assured me the browns are neutral colors and match most other colors. I argued if browns were so neutral then why does she have so many different colored shoes and handbags! Besides, it's her car.
I think she was right. :o I'm really liking the cocoa/cashmere with the red.
08MalibuLeaser 04-07-2008, 04:37 PM Did you know that the center console can fit her pocketbook - I did not know that the little plastic piece is removable / along with the cupholders so that you can fit a womans pocketbook in the console - cool feature - definately designed by a woman

I also read that with the leather interior there is piping around the headrests that are supposed to mimmick a handbag!

No doubt the LTz is the more feminine of the Malibu models.:D:D;)

I resemble that remark :o
Any members have connections to the marketing guys that decide on the available color schemes? Can they be persuaded to make exceptions? (Not that they would be interested in selling more units with better satified customers.)

salgeek 04-08-2008, 08:17 AM Random thoughts on the Dark Grey Metallic.
As advised by many on this forum... the Dark Grey stays "clean" looking many days after a wash. :)
08MalibuLeaser 04-08-2008, 09:28 AM The Black Metallic gets dirty very quickly - but makes me wash the car more and I have fun doing that!

Get Black Granite Metallic.
Malo83 09-26-2008, 10:10 PM I chose the White/cocoa/cashmere combo and have no regrets ;)

Malo...I heart your car, for reasons I hope all will soon see;)
I tried out a White/Cocoa LTZ today and just couldn't keep my eyes off it. Earlier was a White/Cocoa 2LT, and my main comparo has been...good/bad of the LTZ wheels, grille, chrome handles, and foglights with the white. All add to it and make it ritzier, I think. Very nice.
People say white is what you choose when you can't decide or don't want a "color", and I guess that's true. But it's not a bad thing, as Malo's pics show.
USA1fan 09-29-2008, 05:46 AM The only two things I ever had against white were:
1) Doesn't get the "depth" that darker colors do, even when waxed and shined up really well.
2) Shows dirt pretty bad, mostly when you get close. It actually hides dirt from medium to long distances though.
Otherwise I really love white cars. Lots of contrast in general. I had a 2003 Trailblazer in Summit White with custom SS steps, black masked headlights / taillights, bugshield, window vent visors, and sunroof visor. It also had the painted (vs. chrome) Chevy crossbar in the front grill. Absolutely beautiful- maybe the sharpest vehicle I've ever owned. Except for the fact that every time I washed it I nearly went nuts at all the tiny spots that it never seemed possible to completely get rid of..
If my wife had liked the red brick interior, my 08 LTZ would've been white too. The dealership had two identically equipped cars- one white with red brick, the other red with the cocoa & cashmere. The red brick didn't suit her when she saw it in person (she liked the original press photos of it online though). So now I drive a red 'bu. :D
