I've been noticing a clunk from the rear of the car when I go over larger bumps. I've only had the car a few weeks so it may have always done it. It sounds as if:
Possible the trunk lid is loose?
The floor board that has carpet on it, covering the spare tire is loose?
Maybe it's my imagination but it might be coming from the passenger side rear?
Possibly the plastic back piece that has the speakers in it, above the back seats?
Anyone have an issue like this?
Thanks

I think the rear suspension on the current generation Malibu is just too busy. It's designed to give a balanced, even sporty, ride but at the expense of too many linkage points that can squeak, knock, and clunk. If you just got rid of, say, the stabilizer bar, most of the noise would probably be eliminated.

Check your spare to make sure it's tightly secured, too.

Thanks for the advice guys. The spare is secure. It's probably normal. It's only over bumps. Ever notice how nice and neat the wheel wells are? I'm not car mechanic but when you remove the wheel doesn't the well look real nice and clean? Does that make sense? lol

You're quite welcome.:) I'm glad you aren't getting all uptight over the noise. I have to warn you, though, that you'll probably start hearing a lot more noises as the weather gets colder (too many linkages, too many bushings).

I also have a squeak over bumps in the back. Thats what it is and it's essentially "The Suspension" in basic terms. I agree, alot of linkages that pay off in a narrow band of usage.
Also, I can't help but think you might have something in your trunk thats clunking around. Are you an avid weekly bowler? :-P
