Does anyone know the name of this part and/or a good place to order a replacement? It looks like my bumper was repainted and some nitwit oversprayed the hell out of the plastic shield that connects to the bottom of it and it is an eye sore.

My '09 had a little bulge in it, too. As for the paint I would think that you could take some paint remover, like Goof Off, and clean it up instead of replacing it.

When I had a problem with my car this is the part that got broken. If you go here http://www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5559 you can see what I mean.

Here is the part from GM Parts Direct. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=214858&chapter=&Sectionids=0,2309&groupid=5982&subgroupid=2403&componentid=0&make=6&model=Malibu&year=2010&graphicID=CP08032&callout=4&catalogid=2&displayCatalogid=0

That's an Earl Scheib job for sure. The plastic front cover comes off pretty easy so why would anyone paint it in-place anyway?

Looks like its the airdam, try and see if you can clean it first. Just be careful not to use any harsh stuff or it will eat away/melt the plastic.

Or you can pull it off altogether? Its only use is to aid in the cars aerodynamics, saving you a whole .01 gallon of gas per mile.

Thanks for the site... I'm guessing it would be number 4 on that picture diagram? I have to take the car in to the dealer get the trunk-lid aligned... the gap on the drivers side is way closer than on the passenger side and the warranty would cover the adjustment. Maybe i'll ask if they can replace that splash guard too, i'd even pay the 30 bux to avoid having to climb under the damn thing to do it myself =)

When getting warranty work done be careful to choose your words. If you have them align the trunk and then tell them about the airdam on the same visit, the service writer will wonder why the airdam was repainted?

Car accident? If so, they might not make those trunk-lid adjustments to the car and blame it on the "wreck". Thats if it was in one (I don't know, and not saying it was), just thinking like they would (I worked at a dealership, and sometimes they will use any excuse to deny warranty work).

That is true.. most of them are slippery bastards. This one seemed cool - and no accidents showed up on the carfax or autocheck... so if anything it was minor. if it was repainted that probably means that it wasn't replaced at least. (because there would be no overspray!)

"Effective July 16, 2010, Earl Scheib, Inc. has ceased operations nationwide. Each store is now independently owned and operated by a person unaffiliated with Earl Scheib, Inc. Based on this change, customer warranties of Earl Scheib, Inc. will no longer be able to be honored at these stores or by Earl Scheib, Inc. We truly apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, however we believe the independent owners and operators will continue to provide the same great service that Earl Scheib, Inc. offered for almost 80 years."

Also, I agree remove it permanently or temporarily and clean it up -- I bought one via ebay since mine got scratched up a bit and eventually I'll replace it/touch up the bumper. The bottom of the bumper is a very hectic place to have absolutely NO damage from rocks, bumping a curb/parking space divider, etc...

If the car had been in an accident & they replaced the front fascia, it would be a lot easier to paint the fascia before install. So I'm thinking the dealer did a quicky spit shine on the car to sell it...it either had a mild scratch or several gravel chips. I'm no fan of those engine splash shields...PITA. I suppose they will keep the engine cleaner though.

Yes it is #4.

If you go to my thread and look at the pictures I posted of my car they probably bought a can of color paint and clear coat and just touched it up because the previous owner (or someone test driving it) could have scratched the front bumper when parking.
