: door handles in chrome
mjd1001 08-14-2008, 04:34 PM I'm new to the forum, we are considering buying a new Malibu. I have a question I'm not sure if anyone can help with. If you get a non-LTZ Malibu that come with the body colored door handles, is there anywhere you can order and install the Chrome door handles instead of the body colored ones?
I know for a Cobalt, they are an accessory you can buy, but they are not listed as an official accessory on the GM web site. I just think with the 4 cylinder LT with the chrome wheel colors, the chrome handles would match the wheels on the LT1 and look really great.
You should be able to order the chrome LTZ door handles from your dealer.
TOOLE 08-15-2008, 08:31 AM I have a 2LT and I put chrome handles on mine. If you call your local dealership or ADI, the GM handles from the Equinox fit the Malibu. Very easy install as well.
nhance 08-15-2008, 01:00 PM I have the LS and i want to put them on mine. How much do they cost?
TOOLE 08-15-2008, 02:43 PM They are about $139 for parts, if you have them installed it is $219
mjd1001 08-16-2008, 05:12 PM I have a 2LT and I put chrome handles on mine. If you call your local dealership or ADI, the GM handles from the Equinox fit the Malibu. Very easy install as well.
When you say very easy to install, just how easy? do you need any special tools? Do you just pry the old ones off? Any info on how much of a do-it-yourself project it is?
ThugAssDA 08-17-2008, 08:01 PM I would also like to know how easy these are too install. Those chrome door handles look so nice on the car, also the chrome grille, too things I need on my 2LT!!
nhance 08-18-2008, 07:01 AM Thanks for the info TOOLE!
TOOLE 08-18-2008, 07:30 AM Each door literally has one bolt to remove. The only issue that can arrise is if you drop the bolt inside the door. I had all 4 handles switched out in less then 20 minutes.
Aebares 10-11-2008, 03:00 PM I was not ready to spend the money just yet so I bought a set of chrome handle covers for $50 off of Amor Motoring Chrome distributor. I figured if I did not like them on my Silverstone Malibu I could just take them off since they are held on with 3mtape & and glue.
They look great, but there is a little space between the edges of the covers and the door itself, if you can deal with that.

I also bought the "2008 09 CHEVROLET MALIBU LOWER GRILL GRILLE CHROME TRIM" on ebay-motors for $19. What a difference this little chrome strip makes
GTPMALIBU 10-12-2008, 02:13 PM i got the stick on ones from my dealer they look just as good as the other ones they ran me $58
nhance 10-12-2008, 06:06 PM Can you take some pics? I would like to see how it looks.

Those are chrome????? They look black!! I'll assume it's because it's nighttime/a bit dirty (I don't blame you mine looks like crap now after these snowstorms haha)... installation looks great though I can't even tell they're modified!

GTPMALIBU 12-30-2008, 08:06 PM their just the stick on ones, they are chrome but at night it does look like black chrome .... honestly they look the exact same as the LTZ ones
TMoneyR523 01-09-2009, 07:12 PM I just installed the chrome stick-on ones.. they look amazing! Best thing about this is if there's a scratch.. I can just replace them cheaply and easilly.. totally worth it! Looks great on my black granite too

ThugAssDA 01-12-2009, 01:51 PM do u know if you can put up a full length view of the car with both doors showing at the same time? I have the exact same car as you and would like to see it from head to tail with the 2LT body and rims. If not, no biggie! Just wondering

I just noticed I look short and fat in the reflection of my car LOL... I'm not!
ThugAssDA 01-13-2009, 12:01 PM Man thanks a lot T, that looks awesome! Perfect photo too my man, a good range of what the car looks like. That chrome just looks perfect on there and goes great overall with the tires and such!! Thanks again T!
TMoneyR523 01-13-2009, 03:59 PM No problem. It looks great in person too! You'd think they were the LTZ ones! I HIGHLY recommend them.. cheap.. easy to use.. durable.. and for those of you are in odd climates like New England (Extreme cold, extreme heat, very humid in summers, very dry in winters, etc).. you have NOTHING to worry about.. I was afraid they were going to fall off because it's only kept on by 3M tape.. sturdy as ever.
slhaas 02-09-2009, 07:33 PM Did you guys just stick them on, or did you use the 3M primer stuff that came with it first? It says to put that on the handle, let it dry then stick the tape on. Im curious as to what that is and dont want it to ruin my paint or anything if I ever try to get the chrome off.
ThugAssDA 02-10-2009, 06:18 AM When I put them on the other day, I had just came back from a car wash so my car was pretty clean. Then I used the rubbing alcohol pad to wipe down the door handle and then I used a little bit of that tube on the alcohol pad and wiped the door handles again. Once I let that air dry for about a min, I threw them on, they worked fine!
TMoneyR523 02-10-2009, 07:46 AM slhaas you have my response on your inbox

What did that stuff in the tube do? Did it mess up the smooth finish and make it rough/tacky, did it mess up the paint?

Thanks
ThugAssDA 02-10-2009, 08:23 PM uhh, I dont think it messed up my paint, but then again, I didnt put a large amount on. I just put a little bit on the alcohol cloth provided and just rubbed the door handle. No paint missing from what I saw.
nhance 03-13-2009, 10:05 PM Stick on covers or LTZ chrome handles?

And you bought those from the GM Parts Store TMoney?? Do you have a part #? We have the exact same car/color as you and I love that look. I just ordered the pillar pieces as well...
Cheers,
Tony
mfignewton 03-19-2009, 08:26 PM I had the stick on ones on my 06 Silverado and they started to fall off after 3 months so I am buying the LTZ ones. Just wonding if you have to take the inside door panel off or is it done from the the outside?

I think if you're replacing handles you'd need to take off the door panel. Btw alldatadiy has diagrams for it.
OMalibu09 03-20-2009, 04:46 PM I went to the dealer today and asked about the chrome door handles, they said it was a 2-hour job as the doors need to be taken apart to install, what? I thought these were just stick-on?

sounds like they were talking about actual replacement handles.

I wanted to get the actual LTZ handles and they said the exact same thing too and they were like it's not even worth it...
I was very specific saying I just wanted the chrome handles (he corrected me to "levers") and he was like yeah they still gotta take the door apart to install it... I thought it was just a one-bolt thing??
Someone help me...
LanCity 07-07-2009, 04:27 PM Just got my chrome door handles installed today... ordered a new grill and muffler tip. Anybody got a good source for the rocker panel chrome piece that they failed to include in the LS models?
meyer2ml 10-31-2009, 03:55 PM Can anyone confirm what needs to be done to remove and install new LTZ chrome door handles? I have heard its only one bolt, and I also hear you have to remove the door panels which is correct?
Thanks

It's just one screw. So easy a caveman could do it. I changed mine out today.
Brianc538 03-14-2010, 02:45 PM I have a set on order (OEM, not the stick over type). They will be here Tuesday and I will let you know what I had to do to install them. I have heard the door panel does not have to come off, just a one bolt/screw deal. I will let you know and include some pics and instructions.
Brianc538 03-28-2010, 12:55 AM I finally got my GM chrome door handles today. I'm going to put them on tomorrow and I will post pics/provide instructions on how to install these. I bought mine from www.gmpartsdirect.com, total with shipping was $123.45.
