: illuminated vanity lights in sun visors
bucklwi1 08-18-2008, 01:39 PM I am getting a base LS and just noticed on a test drive that the mirros inside the sun visors are not illuminated.
assuming the 1LT, 2LT, or LTZ visor mirrors are illuminated, can I just swap them into the LS? are the power connections for the lights tucked up under the head liner somewhere?
has anyone with an LS done this yet? I basically want to know if this is a simple plug and play swap.
nhance 09-01-2008, 02:01 PM I have the LS and i'm wondering the same thing. I sure hope that you can.
USA1fan 09-02-2008, 05:21 AM I don't know if it's a plug and play swap, but it's probably not too hard even if not. Most likely you can tap into the power from the overhead dome light area. That would mean pulling the headliner loose, at least.
Truitt 09-03-2008, 01:21 PM I have the vanity light on the driver's side, but not on the passenger's side, and I have an LS.
In The Shadows 09-03-2008, 03:13 PM That option is only on the LTZ i believe.
Truitt 09-03-2008, 07:46 PM Well, my car is an oddity. When they got it, I had won the car for good attendance at school (Pretty fortunate, right?), and I chose a Silverado at first. Later on I test drove all of the vehicles offered and I enjoyed the Malibu. When I chose it, it was just off of the truck, 32 miles on the odometer. They had a few pieces missing, so they had to mix and match and supposedly there was a few things wrong with it cosmetically originally.
I have a few options that some don't, and I am missing some things...like the dealership called me to install the lights behind the door handles on the interior a week ago. I did not even know I was supposed to have them. Very cool stuff.
nhance 09-04-2008, 12:53 AM It sounds to me like you can swap out the mirrors.

Wow, pretty neat.
In The Shadows 09-04-2008, 10:15 AM You are SO lucky to win that shit for good attendance. I never missed a day of school and didn't get shit!
Was it COMPLETELY free or what?

lolllllllllllll
Truitt 09-04-2008, 12:47 PM Yup, completely and entirely free. All I had to pay was an upfront payment to my insurance to have my insurance include the new vehicle. It replaced a beat-up (and dead two weeks later) 2000 Toyota Echo. Sales tax...purchase...everything was free. I got to pick from five vehicles in all (All Pontiacs and Chevys), and being in a Ford family I must say the godsend was a very confusing gift indeed :D I originally picked the Silverado, like I mentioned above, but when I drove this I fell in love. I had to agree, though, that it was not a "complete" Malibu and had been shipped missing a few cosmetic things. They have called me in to replace parts that are supposed to be on the Impalas and Auras with an official Malibu part and to put in my sunshades (Only the driver's has the vanity light).
I just found out recently that the entire air filter assembly is straight from an Aura, but I was relieved to find out that the air filter I purchased fits both Aura and Malibu ones (4cyl, of course).
In The Shadows 09-04-2008, 03:17 PM WEll, you just got 20,000 for free basically LOL.
Plus the 'Bu is awesome >=D
FenwickHockey65 09-04-2008, 04:44 PM WHAT?!
I want to transfer to your school!
Jewelsedge 09-18-2008, 01:25 PM You need a specific elec. harness installed above the headliner...we build these and use a specific harness for dual lighted visors.

how much is this harness? how hard is it to install? where does it connect to power?
If I buy this harness is it a simple plug n play into both lighted visors and the power source?
Jay Armstrong 09-18-2008, 05:21 PM Speaking of illuminated vanity lights, the right light in my right visor is malfunctioning. Possibly burned out. It did function when the car was new.
Is the bulb / lens 'assembly' easily replaced (by the dealership)? Or does the right visor need to be replaced (by the dealership)?
Schwartz 09-18-2008, 07:58 PM Both mirrors in my visors have lights.
thelongone13 09-18-2008, 11:55 PM 2006 and only the drivers has them. You'd think it would be the passenger to try to avoid having people do their makeup and drive...

I should clarify...we (the company I work for) assembles the headliners in KC for the GM production plant. The harness is not easily replaceable, as you have to drop the ENTIRE headliner down...the harness is hot glued to the back of the substrate and is huge..connects all of the headliner hardware via 1 single harness (front domes, rear center domes, visors, center overhead console, power rearview mirror, Onstar, microphone, sunroof switch, etc) You could probably buy a "lighted" visor from your local dealer and do some searching up there for power (tap into front dome lamp, tap into Sunroof motor, etc) and connect, but would only work when ignition is on. The visor is attached via screws that are driven into the roof sheet metal. Again, this isn't the easiest process given the wire harness of the visor itself gets in the way and there is also an extra "clip" on the back side of the visor between the substrate and the roof sheet metal. We assemble all of this while the headliner is out of the car (much easier) and then GM inserts the headliner into the vehicle thru the windshield opening before glass install :)
FYI....The headliner harness connects to the vehicle at the rear C pillar.
