XM Everything Plan, 1 year.

I was getting REALLY ticked off @ the XM CSR that I first spoke with. Javier said I had to be a customer first before I could get any discount. I explained how I had been a customer for the first six months I owned the car, tried to renew, but XM instead just reactivated the service for another 3 months and never sent me a bill.

I simply could NOT talk sense with that jerk. I hung up on him. When I called back after cooling off, the girl I spoke with immediately gave me the discount. Bastids try real hard to alienate customers.

BTW, I had over a year of no XM radio at all, and really didn't miss it or want it. When my new company car came in this week and we bought the '09 for my wife to use, I wanted her to have the XM because she:

A) Hates radio commercials
B) Likes "classic rock" from 70's, 80's & 90's.
C) Is safer if she's not shuffling through her CD's as she drives

To me, the $85 is about what I donate to 2 or 3 different NPR stations, so I'm essentially doing that for her type of radio. Other than that, I can't see a lot of value in it for me and NO WAY would I pay $157+ for the same product.

Heads up, folks: Sirius and XM are changing their channel numbers beginning May 2011. You may want to go to SiriusXM.com to find the new numbers to your favorite channels. I guess it's a good thing that now both will be the same number instead of hearing them say Sirius channel s / XM channel x. It'll just take some programming on my portable Sirius radio that I use instead of the XM. I bought it before the car and have a lifetime subscription. Plus it alerts me to any of the 30 artists/songs in memory and can replay up to 45 minutes on any station.

Yup, channel numbers all re-align on Wednesday May 4th. That's why I didn't bother storing any on my new car, and told my wife about it too.

There is another way to get the $77/year deal without promo code: You can do that by calling the cancellation department directly. Again, call directly the cancellation guy tell them that you want to close you account. Then they will ask why. Prepare to give them a bunch of complaints like: too many commercials these days, you can listen to your local channels for free, etc... Also add things you want to bargain later like: you hate the royal fee, and in the old day you can get free Internet XM but now you don't..
You will see that the cancellation guy will give you those things to keep you with XM. I did that and it worked for me. I got exactly $77/year with free Internet XM... If it doesnot work then hang up and try again later with other cancellation rep :)

All your preset channels will update automatically, so say if you have boneyard saved on a preset button that takes you to channel 53, on May 4th that same preset button will automatically take you to the new channel which is 38. No reprogramming is required.

Sirus XM's customer service people are atrocious. I gave up on two different persons who had a hard time communicating in English and who only knew to follow their canned flowchart & script. Finally on the third try, I got a person who could actually be of help to me.

Great. Good for you. Now how does that work for a guy like me who had no account to cancel?

I managed to get it anyhow, but I have had an easier time trying to get Donald Trump to STFU. ;)

That's cool! Despite knowing the channels were going to change, I did store a few favorites in my new car simply because rolling through the dial is so cumbersome. I don't know how that will work, but if it does I'm a happy camper. My wife was shocked when I showed her she could have some 36 different pre-sets. Sure beast the 5 pushbuttons on my first car, a '66 Chevy Impala 2-dr hardtop.

I did have account with them when I was in trial/free period. I don't know why you did not have one? I thought everybody should have account with XM the first year even if you don't have to pay a dime. If not, then how can they activate their service on your vehicle?

The car which I was trying to reactivate the XM radio did have 6 months of free XM service when it was new, but that was two years ago. I did try to renew it as it ran out, but the atrocious customer dis-service @ XM-Sirius did wonders to piss me off so I let it go.

Now that car is no longer my leased company car, as I turned it into being my wife's new car.

I plan to do exactly as has been stated. I have had the absolute worst experience with the customer service. I had the service with my Cobalt, and they gave me a really hard time transferring it over to my Malibu. I seldom use it, but if I can get a deal, I'll go for it.

Uh...yes I was directing that at you!

But since you've already got what you need I guess my idea is moot.

The car just came off lease and you just bought it. Hmmm, whenever a car is newly sold XM and OnStar might consider making their services available for a free trial period again.

But that's ok, you already got it. Sorry I butted in and made a suggestion.

You're taking this the wrong way, and I guess I am too. I am sorry about that.

I appreciate suggestions, but yours made no sense to me. Your idea suggesting I get "a dealer to intercede" didn't click with me because I've got some direct experience with dealers, having sold cars at one time in my career. If I were to walk into a dealer and ask them to spend time trying to get something for a customer who really isn't a customer and they would make zero money on the deal....I just don't think it's a good use of my time. They might share that opinion.

I've never bought anything from those thieves, though they serviced the car ONCE as they're the nearest Chevy place to me. They didn't deliver this car two years ago when it was new. That was a dealer who was one of those closed by GM. This close dealer also played no part in my buying this car as it came off lease. I did everything myself though the leasing company.

I understand your thought (I think), but it just never occurred to me to go ask a business to do something for nothing.

OTOH, I certainly think you have a great idea for SiriusXM and OnStar to come up with a program for new ownership of factory-equipped cars to be able to sample the services. If I had not had the free XM and OnStar in the car originally for my wife to experience it, she never would have mentioned how much she liked it, and I wouldn't have re-activated it for her.

Me, I listen to NPR 90% of the time, and my yearly donations to that (3 different stations I listen to) far exceed what I'd be paying for XM. I am debating the value of arguing with SiriusXM when my free time on the new car expires. Anyone else try to get a discount for 2 accounts on 2 Malibu's?

Renewing the OnStar isn't even a remote possibility for me at their prices!

DrivenDaily

Then I think this writing stuff got both of us a little off track. I'm sorry for seemingly taking your comment wrong.

I thought your off-lease was handled at a dealer and therefore they'd have at least some vested interest in assisting you.

Having handled it yourself through the leasing company was probably the least expensive way to get the car, so the enormous savings more than make up for the small cost of the XM.

I just got an email this morning, minutes ago as a matter of fact, that my OnStar is now expired. I tried accessing my car through the MyLink app on my Droid and the 'Bu is still not supported. That was the one big draw and the deal breaker for me. I don't get it: the new Cruze and almost all the other GM cars have the ability, but the 'Bu for some reason is so different that they can't figure out how to hook it up. And like I've said in other posts (please pardon me getting up on a soap box here) why in the world do they advertise so heavily that the 'Bu has gotten the #1 Best Pick twice and then don't support the owners who buy into the ads? If (BIG IF!) I ever buy another new car I'll be over on the Ford lot first. Then Mazda and Subaru. Maybe Volvo or Saab. (Getting off soap box now. /rant)

Glad to hear you're so impressed with as unbiased a reporting style as you can find that you donate to NPR. You're certainly a better person for it, and make the world better for all the rest of us at the same time. I take my hat off to you!

KenM10759

The '09 1FL (about equal to a LS with a couple of goodies) with 74,300 miles on it came to me for $9200 from the leasing company. From my research, that was very low trade-in value, far cheaper than retail and I know every nook & cranny of the car. The miles might bother some people, but not me. I put every one of them on the car, except 3. ;)

They've sold off their fleet cars cheaper in the past, but the prices of used cars have skyrocketed so that was the best I could do. Because I've had the car since it had 3 miles on it, I had no fears about not getting a good one.

Well I just got off the phone with XM. They are no doubt the worlds largest group of A$$hats in the world.Fifteen minutes of trying to get to a live person, and then another fifteen minutes arguing with a person who, only after threatening to just cancel everything did I get the point across. I took it. I don't figure it's really worth any more than that.

I am seriously considering just dumping them all together and getting a HD Radio or an add on kit and call it good. I only listened to a few stations and that was not that often.I have to do the homework first, but as of right now I have about a month to make a decision.

Surprising how some people aren't that happy with Sirius/XM. Got 2 lifetime plans, one in the Mailibu one for the receiver at work. Channel 39 almost all the time, Hair Nation. Just got tired of all the commercials on FM radio and I'm not into the talk radio, or sports talk and the little I listened to HD radio, it didn't do anything for me. To each their own. That's why there's vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream. Not everyone like the same thing.

Oh Ya they are a real A+ company alright. And anybody that has the service can correct me if I am wrong, but I hear plenty of commercials on Blue Collar Comedy channel.

Well, I don't know what to tell you about the trial period or the $15 charge but maybe try calling them back and maybe you'll get someone else that's a little more helpful. I would think somewhere along the way you were talking to a rep that ' wasn't trained properly' (I'm trying to be polite). When I call them to straighten out a customers vehicle, I run into the same thing. Usually 3 or 4 phone calls later and when they answer the phone, I'll tell them I'm having trouble and I need to talk to someone that knows what's going on. So far that works pretty well. I signed up for my lifetime subscription right after I got the car, still in the trial period, and was told several times during the process that I would have my card charged until after the trial was over. I agree with you completely about Blue Collar Comedy, way too many commercials and repetitive ones too. Exactly why I hated FM radio and got Sirius/XM in the first place. I still listen to Blue Collar off and on until the commercials get to me, then back to music. To make a point though, I don't think they really mislead you about commercials as this is from the FAQ's page question #3. I believe the number is now 71 music channels. Still, to me, if you can't find channels you like on Sirius/XM, you're a hard person to please. If you like them enough to pay for them, that's another story. To each their own.

3.Will I hear commercials on SiriusXM?

We assume you want to listen to radio and not commercials, right? With SiriusXM you get 69 music channels, all commercial-free. There are a small number of XM music channels that have commercials but those are clearly designated for you on our channel lineups. And many of our sports, news, talk and entertainment channels carry limited amounts of commercials. Most local AM/FM radio stations carry 10 – 15 minutes of ads every hour. No wonder you're interested in SiriusXM.

langss
08-20-2011, 09:59 AM
I understand what your saying. My response about the commercials was more of a generality. I really don't have a problem with the commercials either on "FM" or "XM". In this day and age I realize there is no way to pay for anything with out them. What was really pissing me off and still is, is the continuing effort to prevent me from getting what I paid for. I kept everything they sent me and that so far has been the only thing that made a difference no matter who I talked to. Blue Collar is not the only channel I listen to, it just happened to be the channel I listened to the most making a three and a half hour trip each way every Saturday for about six months last year. Now that I'm not having to do that anymore the XM is more of a luxury, but it does not negate the fact that they made me an offer and over a year ago tried to back out of it. If they were an honest up front company and willingly honored the terms they originally agreed to, we would probably not be discussing this.

the way I see it is that if you want to pay full price for a year or more, you'll be off the phone quick and their person will probably be friendly and helpful.

if you want to play the "I'm gonna cancel" game and get a deep discount/shorter term, work a deal kinda thing you'll have to put the time into it.

I'd go for the latter a few minutes of aggrivation every few months is worth the huge savings IMO

I agree.

You can also do what I did - threw a fit when I recently received a renewal bill for $184 (instead of the $77 deal I got last year when I signed up).

Then I threatened to report them to the Federal judge presiding over the current class action lawsuit agaist SiriusXM, and the proposed settlement that any customer who signed up for a long term subscription between 2008 to 2011 would automatically get their subscription renewed for the previous price.

FAXed them a copy of the settlement email, and I was notified the same day that my subscription was being renewed at $77 as a "courtesy"....

just in general. same with Directv,

I suspect that they really are a fairly small company, people wise, and are slaves to their computer system.......like a lot of other companies are.

I'm in an interesting situation. As mentioned, they called me with a discount offer......in an obvious attempt to get my credit card number so they would do "automatic renewal". Since I don't go for that stuff, I asked if I could get the same deal if they invoiced me and I sent in a check. Answer was "Yes, but that will cost you an extra $3". Fine with me; still $33 for 6 months.

Well, three weeks has passed. I got no invoice. I did however get a "thank you" letter indicating that I am now on the "automatic renewal" plan (not possible since they don't have my credit card number).

My subscription expires tomorrow. I wonder what will happen next.
When I look up my account online it is marked something like "Subscription extension pending".

XM's "customer service" is so dificult to work with. They barely speak English.

Here is what happened to me:

I had signed up for a two year deal with XM when I bought my used Malibu. I got an OK deal because it was an add-on to my wife's plan.

Then a week later, I got a call from them - they had a special "Welcome to the GM family" program for me - 6 free months of XM. Great!

Flash forward to this week. It turns out, when they gave me the 6 free months, my formerly prepaid deal was cancelled. They now put a refund was put on my credit card - less $85 for cancellation fees. Then they turned off my XM service because I had not converted the 6 month trial into a paid subscription.

So I called XM. After about an hour on the phone with "Jay" (I think his real name was Prakesh) and "Sue" (Sujata), I got my original deal reinstated, the six momths still free and another $50 bucks taken on top of that. A big hassle, but in the end they made good on everything.

Their pricing is like "Let's Make a Deal" - it can be anything - just keep working 'em.

As long as I can get it for ~ $5 a month, I'll keep it.

Admins, please forgive me if I'm breaking a rule by posting a copy of the letter I received on the proposed court settlement with Sirius/XM.

I just stumbled across an offline request for a copy of this letter (my apologies, I didn't see the private message to me earlier). Thought it may be easiest to post it here so everyone can benefit.

BTW - after I hit the XM customer Service rep with this email when they tried to re-up me for $184 a year.... they later decided to "do me a favor" and renew me for $77 a year. In the meantime, the proposed class action settlement is still under legal review.

And one more thing - the website they give for additional info was down the last time I attempted to visit.

You are included in the Class if you were a Sirius, XM, or Sirius XM subscriber anytime from July 29, 2008 to July 5, 2011 and you paid: (1) the U.S. Music Royalty Fee; or (2) a monthly multi-radio charge of $8.99; or (3) a $2.99 monthly Internet access charge if you previously did not pay to access Sirius XM's content over the Internet.

What Does the Settlement Provide? Under this proposed Settlement, Sirius XM has agreed it will not raise the price of its base subscription plan and certain other prices through the end of 2011. Additionally, subscribers with long term plans (excluding lifetime subscriptions) will be permitted to restart their plan at current rates before December 31, 2011. After approval of the Settlement, former subscribers will also be permitted to either (a) reconnect their satellite radio without paying a reactivation fee and receive one month of service at no cost; or (b) receive one month of Sirius XM Internet streaming service at no cost. The estimated value of the Settlement is $180 million. The Settlement does not provide for cash payments to the Class.

How to Get Benefits? Current subscribers scheduled to renew before December 31, 2011 do not need to do anything. Current subscribers who are scheduled to renew after December 31, 2011 and who want to restart their long term plan at current rates as well as former subscribers who want to reconnect service or receive streaming service should go to www.siriusxm.com/blessingclassaction.

What Are Your Options? If you do not want to be legally bound by the Settlement, you must exclude yourself from it. The deadline to exclude yourself is July 5, 2011. If you do not exclude yourself, you will release all claims against Sirius XM concerning any conduct arising out of, based on, or relating to the merger that created Sirius XM. If you stay in the Settlement Class, you may object to it by July 11, 2011. The detailed notice, available at the website or by calling the toll-free number, tells you how to exclude yourself or object. The Court will hold a hearing on August 8, 2011, to consider whether to approve the Settlement and a request by Class Counsel for attorneys' fees and costs up to $13 million, plus interest. You may appear at the hearing, but you don't have to. You may also hire your own attorney, at your own expense, to appear or speak for you at the hearing, but you don't have to.

Do not call or write to Judge Baer for information.

3rd renewal in my 2009 LTZ V6. I received the $77/yr "ZWINBACK" deal my first 2 years. This time around it took a little more work on my part. I called the "listener care" number 3 times with no luck on Friday. In each I said "I want to renew my subscription for a year and I would like to have the $77 deal that I had received last year. The person on the phone would tell me that because I have already gotten that deal 2 years in a row they could not offer that to me again. The best they could do is $142/yr which they said was actually 11 mos with 1 month free. I said no thanks and they suggested that I call back in a month to see if they had any new promotions. I even went online and started a chat session with an XM rep and he told me the same thing.

So I got up Saturday morning and called the number, was transfered when I asked for the $77 deal. The lady I talked to the 2nd time hooked me up, no questions asked when I refered to the "ZWINBACK" promo. After all the fees/taxes and crap my total charge is $92 which is actually $3 less than last year! I guess ZWINBACK is the secret word to use! :D

Just tell them you want to cancel; they'll give you a deal. Also, tell them you're not going to pay for the U.S. Music Royalty fee. They play the same music as Terrestrial radio which doesn't charge you a fee. This fee is a scam and pure profit for them. Have them tell you the amount your bill will be and write it down. NEVER give them a credit card number, have them mail you a bill otherwise they will automaticlly bill your card at the full rate.

Remember, supply and demand is on your side. They're losing more customers than they're adding. ;)

To get "free" radio you pay by giving up your time to commercials. I have a lifetime subscription to Sirius (over 3 years and no bills!) and an accessory radio that remembers 30 songs/artists and replays up to the last 45 minutes on the same station. The stocker can't do that and I'm so glad I got the lifetime subscription! Back then it was about $150/year and I paid for less than 3 years' worth for a lifetime. Every year it keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. So there's another option to XM!

I have been uh...um .er.... downloading songs for what seems forever, I got like 120GB of them and at about 4mb each, thats a heck of a lot of tunes, I get most stuff before it even hits the stores.

Girlfriend tells me what she likes, I sync it out of my collection via j.river media center to a memory stick and we just plug into the usb port on front of the stock receiver. :)

problem solved :D
